If you can, use the wood screws to secure it. I've been using the clamp to attach it to my desk because it's not something I want to put permanent holes in, but it's not ideal. It slides around so you have to tighten it often. (I cut a small square of that rubbery non-skid stuff and put that under it, which helps.) Anyway, it sharpens the living hell out of all my pencils. Every brand, size, texture--all sharpened to a deadly stiletto point. It's crazy how well this things works. There are no clams (or clamps, for that matter) included with this sharpener. It comes with three little screws that, I suppose, would be perfect if it were used for a permanent mount. But, in my case, I didn't want to mar a quality table with screw holes that would go along with a permanent mount. I would have preferred to get the choice of a clamp that could be used to hold this down to the edge of a table. It even has the mounting hole for a clamp in the base. Though I looked on Amazon, and also on the Bostitch site, there wasn't an option to buy a clamp. After spending some time poking around on Google, I came across an excellent clamp from a company called Carl Manufacturing, who make a clamp for their A-5 pencil sharpener that is a great fit for this one. Got it a earlier today and does the job of holding the sharpener down perfectly. Other than the clamp disappointment, all else with the sharpener works really well. I hope this helps someone not wanting to permanently mount the sharpener find a suitable alternative. I had to dock a star for the misleading description and lack of thought put into what might be of use to the customer.Started chewing up pencils and only sharpening one side. Cleaned and inspected and found no blockage. I called warrant support and the very rude lady told me I had to print out a hard copy of the amazon receipt, print out their claim form, box up the sharpener, and ship it to them across the country at my expense. This is really a 'ZERO' quality item. It just looks like a pencil sharpener and seems to miss all the important ergonomic aspects completely. Growing up, the class rooms that had a Bostitch Pencil sharpener were golden. That quality now seems gone.It was far from perfect but it was good enough for me. When my grandkids came along we used pencils daily and my plastic sharpener couldn't hold up to the daily work. I was especially worried about the four year old cutting her fingers when taking off the cover to remove shavings. I did a lot of research and discovered that the Bostitch pencil sharpener had good internal parts that were replaceable and that the sharpener has good reviews. I purchased a version like this one for my daughter but with the suction cup. Unfortunately the suction cup did not work from the start. I chose this version that has three screw mounts for myself so that I can mount it horizontally or diagonally. I attached it to my desk and it is tightly installed. No wiggles or jiggles. It only takes a few turns to sharpen my pencil and it comes out perfect every time. The manufacturer states that the handle is antimicrobial. The handle is made of a smooth plastic that is easier to clean than other pencil sharpeners that have grooves on their handles. A feature that I really like about the sharpener is that it has eight different hole sizes to adjust to any width pencils. All you have to do is turn the dial to your required size. I highly recommend this Bostitch Antimicrobial mountable pencil sharpener to those looking for a quality device. Arrggh !! Expensive. It did a similar job on a couple of Prismacolors that I don't use often and one was fine the other half of it disappeared and was only half sharpened. It' s also very stiff to operate and turning the handle at times feels like its stuck and at others loose. The size dial on the front is also very difficult to turn and if occasionally turn it the wrong way it unlocks the whole front case (how it's emptied). Bits of led get stuck in the grinders and because I mounted it can't be picked up and shaken. It's also quite cheaply made, though I have to say that the grinders are very sharp. The lack of a spring system to hold and feed the pencils means you need to grip the pencil hard while turning the level to sharpen the pencil. So a third hand is needed to stabilise the sharpener. A manual hand grip on the pencil means it may not always feed in the correct angle. I'm getting chiseled point more often than round sharp point on my pencil. Maybe this will go away with practice. The sharp metal inlet will bite off your pencil coatings if your wobble the pencil while sharpening.As I've not bolted this device down my review may not be 100 fair.
