You have to set it, and then lock it down. Locking it often changes the depth of cut, so there is a lot of trial and error till you get it set. Use a scrap piece of the old jamb to set depth. I got this router to replace my old laminate trimmer (which I never really used for trimming laminate). I was instantly amazed at how well ergonomically designed it is as well as how powerful it is. I have found through use that it can perform 90 of my routing needs. The one handed design and low weight make narrow edge routing operations much easier compared to steadying a 'full sized' router. One big problem is that it only comes with one collet wrench and the integrated arbor lock wears out quickly. I ended up making a second wrench to fit a notch on the arbor shaft. But since most router bits use bearings this isn't a major problem.
