In 2002, Mitsubishi would release a new Colt in Japan that had been designed by Olivier Boulay. This Japanese version was only sold at Galant Shop, a retail chain. They would release a European version in 2003. By 2004 Mitsubishi was making upgrades to their Colt vehicles. They began to offer it with a turbocharger, automatic transmission, and 6 gears. They also added variable timing which greatly increased the speed and power the car was able to reach. 2005 saw the release of a cabriolet version of the Colt. It was called the Colt CZC. This version featured a retractable hardtop. As each new version of the Colt was rolled out, Mitsubishi added detailed upgrades. Subsequent models would have improved exhaust systems, stiffer suspensions, improved steering, stiffer chassis mounts, low profile tires, and improved seating. In fact, by 2008 they would incorporate a lower ride height, reinforcement of the shocks absorbers and a redesign of the rear spoilers.
