Status and Notificati ons The status bar and noti fication panel make it easy to see your phone ’ s co nnection, alert you of new messages, and much mo re. Status Bar Notifications Panel Notification LED Status Bar Th e sta tus bar at the top of the Home screen provides phone and service s tatus information on the right side and noti fication alerts on the left. To view notification alerts, touch and hold the status bar and drag it dow n. You can choose from three keyboard l ayouts: Standard, Phone, and Compact. Change th e Key board Layout You can choose from three di fferent keyboard layouts to suit your ty ping style. This is the de fault keyboard layout. ? Phone. This layout resembles a t raditional wireless phone keypad. ? Compact. This layout features two l etters on each key. The keys are slightly larger than on the standard layout. Enter Text Usin g the Touch Input K ey board Use the f ollow ing keys while ent ering text using the ons creen keyboard: The gray character display ed on the k ey is the character that will be inserted when y ou touch and hold that key. Some keys have multiple characters or accents associated with them. Shift key. Touch to capitalize the next letter you enter. Touch twice to turn on caps lock. Numeri c key. Touch to swi tch to the numeric and sy mbol keyboard. A lphabet key. W hile in n umeric or symbol keyboard, touch to switch to the alphabetic keyboard Enter key. Touch to c reate a new line. Change to Landsc ape Keyboar d W he n entering text, y ou can choose to use the landscape orientation of the touch input keyboard by tur ning the phone sideways. This pops up a larger Standard keyboard that lets y ou type easily using two thumbs. Bilingual prediction lets you activate w ord prediction for a second lan guage. ? Trace color lets you sel ect the color to use w hen using the Trace keyboar d. ? A dvanced setti ngs: Prediction preference. Spell correction: Correct typographical errors by selecting from a list of po ssible words that reflect the characters of the keys you hav e touched as well as characters of nearby keys. ? Word completion: Select from a list of possible com binat ions based on t he characters that appear on the keys that you touched. ? A dvanced setti ngs: Finger touch calibration. Calibration tool: Lets you recalibrate the keyboard i f you feel that the key s are not responding accurately to your touch es. ? Reset calibration: Reset the calibration back to factory default. ? Personal dictionary lets you add, edit, or remove words in the predic tive text dictionary. Tips for Editing T ext Your phone gives you many options to make entering text ea sier, including copying, cutting, and pasting text, using voice - to - text input, customizing the user dictionary, using predictive tex t, and more. Using Predictiv e T ext The onscreen keyboard has predictive tex t to help you type quickly and accurately. Predictive text input is enabled by d efault, and word suggestions are di splayed as you type. To enter a w ord in predictive mode, do any o f the following. If you see the word y ou w ant highlight ed, you ca n simply touch the space bar to insert the word into your text. ? If you see the word y ou w ant shown in the suggestions before you hav e finished typing the entire word, touch the w ord to insert it into your text. ? If an arrow is show n to the right of the su ggestion list, touch the arrow to see mo re suggestions. Add a Word to t he Pr edic tiv e Text Di ctionary Your phone comes with a li st of words that it references for predictiv e text suggestions. Sometimes you may need to add a w ord to the predictive text dictionary, for example a name or a specialized technical word. W hile entering text using the Standard keyboard lay out, if you touch any word on the su ggestion list, it is automatically added to the predictive tex t dictionary if it w as not in the dictionary already.Or touch Select all to select everything in the text field. The selected text is then copied to the clipboard. 2. Touch and hold a text field in the same or other app. 3. Call Using a S peed Dial Number Speed dial numbers let you di al numbers by touchi ng and holding a single numbe r on the Phone keypad. The display confirms that you have dialed the number w hen it shows “Dialing” on the upper right side of the screen. Call a Number in a Text Message or Email Messag e W hil e view ing a text message or email message, you can place a call to a number that is in the body of the message. 1. While viewi ng a text or em ail mes sag e, t ouch the phone number in the message. 2. Touch Call. Your phone then dials the phone number. For additional information, see Text M essaging and MMS and Email. Call Emergency Numbers You can place calls to 91 1 even if the phone ’ s screen is locked or your acc ount is restricted. To call the 911 emergency number when the phone ’ s screen is loc ked with a screen loc k: 1. Un lock the sc reen. For more information, see Turn Your Screen On and Off. 2. W he n you place an emergency 911 call, the GPS feature of your phone seek s inf or mat ion to calculate your approximate location. Depending on sev eral variables, including availability and access to satellite signals, it may take up to 30 seconds or more to determine and report your approximate location. Important: A lw ays report y our location to the 911 operat or when placing an emergency call. Some designated e mergency call takers, known as Publ ic Safety Answering Points (PSAPs), may not be equipped to receive GPS location information from your phone. Receive Pho ne Call s W he n you receive a pho ne call from a contac t, the Incoming call screen appears and display s the caller ID icon, name, and phone number of th e calling party. W hen y ou receive a phone call from someone who i s not stored in People, only the de fault caller ID icon and phone nu mber appear on the Incoming call screen. Note: If your phone is turned off, all call s automatically go to voicemail. Answ er an Inc oming Call. If the display is on, touch A nswer. ?
