All in all, muscle-bound image or not, the midlevel Charger trims fill the family sedan niche nicely, and look sharp doing it. And don’t forget the cops; the Dodge Charger is without doubt the cruiser du jour. Both the Base and SXT trims are equipped with standard V6 engines, with each RWD version packing the standard four-speed automatic transmission, and the SXT AWD trim carrying a five-speed auto-manual. A roomy cabin and capacious trunk are staples of Chrysler sedans, and the 2010 Charger is no exception. Standard comfort and convenience amenities are plentiful, especially in the higher trim levels, and options packages, though traditionally confusing, are reasonably comprehensive. Meanwhile, the upper-echelon trims sport these common safety features as standard equipment. Competition, however, in the form of such lighter-weight, more refined, and much more economical midsize sedans like the Ford Fusion, Nissan Altima, and Mazda6 proves that there’s money to be saved in opting for practicality over reminiscence. The SXT begins to show some beef with its standard 3.5-liter V6 that puts out a respectable 250 hp at 6,400 rpm and 250 lb-ft of torque at 3,800 rpm. The Charger SXT RWD trim is equipped with the four-speed automatic, while the AWD SXT boasts the five-speed auto-manual transmission. This monster is managed by the standard five-speed auto-manual transmission to pound out 425 hp at 6,200 rpm and 420 lb-ft of torque at 4,800 rpm.http://dev.pb-adcon.de/node/27064Needless to say, both V8s rated high on professional reviewers’ wish lists.Never, however, was the ride considered overly harsh. A bit of float on dips and peaks in the road is noticed by some reviewers, but not to the extent that it affects drivability or passenger comfort. Braking is considered better-than-adequate, with one review timing a V8-equipped Charger at 0-60-0 in less than 17 seconds. Pedal feel, however, needs some tweaking, according to a number of reviewers. About the only option available for the Base Charger is ESP traction and stability control. Six Boston Acoustics speakers, 276 watts of audio power, 18-inch aluminum wheels, and leather-trimmed upholstery are available to the SXT when the Customer Preference Package is selected, while a power sunroof and Sirius back-seat video entertainment are available as stand-alone options. A number of suspension and appearance options can also turn the SXT into a mean-looking machine. Options include Bluetooth technology, touch-screen DVD navigation, and upgraded audio components, all available with the SXT trim as well. HID headlights and a Kicker Premium Audio system are a sampling of the flagship trim’s available options. A few reviewers voiced minor complaints regarding the steering wheel blocking a gauge or two and the placing of one or two buttons too low on the dash for comfort. Interior materials and workmanship are described by several reviewers as adequate for the price, with one judging the Charger’s cabin a notch below the Chrysler 300's. This has resulted in the Charger receiving less than stellar side-impact safety scores in various government testing. The Base Charger, meanwhile, lacks standard antilock brakes (ABS) as well as traction and stability control, though both are optional. Front and rear head airbags, however, are standard across the lineup. All other Charger trims do offer four-wheel ABS and traction and stability control. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) agrees with its counterpart about front impact protection, awarding the Charger its highest rating of “good.” The IIHS, however, diverges in its assessment of side-impact safety with the awarding of its second poorest rating of “marginal.” There are a few things, however, that draw some negative comments, among them, the poor performance, both in acceleration and fuel economy, of the base 2.7-liter V6. The 3.5-liter V6 is also disparaged by some owners for less-than adequate performance. The base four-speed automatic transmission draws complaints for its elderly design and clunky performance. Steering feel is an issue with some owners, though more as an annoyance than as a driving defect. Many owners are unimpressed with the Charger’s weight, feeling its heft detracts from both performance and handling. Poor seats, allowing for too much slipping and sliding, are mentioned as a nuisance by a few owners, while difficult entry and exit though the rear doors is a problem for others. Both the Boston Acoustics and Kicker premium audio systems are considered de rigor for many owners, as is a reasonably spacious rear seat area. Ride comfort, an easy-to-use optional DVD navigation system, and four-door convenience also impress numerous owners. Finally, of course, there are the nearly obligatory owner commendations to Dodge for the throaty roar of a good ol’ American V8. I'm really digging meeting people.. and sometimes their cars... getting a sense of what makes this nation tick. The plan is to visit all the national parks in the continental US, then cruise to Alaska to visit Denali, and to Hawaii to check out Haleakala and the Hawaii Volcano's national parks. Anyhow, when I'm not horsing the motor home around the roadways, I'm tooting around in the 2012 Ford Focus that we tow behind, or making runs to Home Depot and various malls with the 2004 F-150 that just won't die. Each ranking was based on 9 categories. Here is the summary of top rankings. I Replaced All Bulbs And. Thats what I have to. It is available in rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive drivetrains. The first production Charger, based on the Dodge Coronet, was introduced as a 1966 model. There were several different vehicles bearing the Charger nameplate built on three different platforms and sizes, all bearing the Charger nameplate. Although the name is associated with the late-1960s performance model in the Dodge range, it was also used on personal luxury coupes during the late-1970s and on front-wheel-drive subcompact hatchbacks during the 1980s. It took many styling cues from the 1960s Chargers, sharing their long nose and rearward cab, but was shorter at 187 in (4,750 mm), compared to 203 in (5,156 mm) for the 1966 Charger. It was also 650 lb (295 kg) lighter. The AWD system is engaged all the time, routing approximately 60 of the power to the rear wheels and 40 of the power to the front wheels. Tail lamps were also revised. 2008 models had seen minor revisions to the interior (a new center console and switchgear changes). The 2009 Charger AWD utilized the BorgWarner Torque-on-Demand system which disconnects the front axles until extra traction is needed. This results in a slight boost in fuel economy while retaining the same maximum power split to the front wheels. For 2007, the SE package could be had with the 2.7 L engine. The Canadian SXT model included the 3.7 L V6.It featured a high output 350 hp (261 kW) version of the 5.7 L (345 cu in) Hemi as well as an updated suspension and tires. Visual additions included a special front fascia with a chin spoiler and a black rear spoiler. In 2009, horsepower was increased to 372 hp (277 kW) by the addition of Variable Camshaft Timing.Powered by a 425 hp (431 PS; 317 kW) version of the 6.1 L (370 cu in) Hemi V8, it also featured upgraded Brembo brakes, and interior and exterior updates. The engine is rated at 420 lb?ft (569 N?m) of torque at 4,800 rpm. The 425 SAE net horsepower of the modern 6.7 L Hemi makes it more powerful than the Chrysler Hemi engines of the muscle car era, the biggest of which were rated at 425 SAE gross horsepower. This made the 6.7 L Hemi the most powerful V8 engine that Chrysler had put in a production vehicle at the time.It was a limited edition with only 1,000 being produced. A B5 Blue version of the Super Bee was shown at the 2007 North American International Auto Show and went on sale in early 2008, also with a limited run of 1,000.Although NASCAR stock cars bear only a slight resemblance to actual street cars, Dodge's 2005 and 2006 NASCAR entries were based on the Charger silhouette, replacing the previous Dodge Intrepid. Unlike the Intrepid, the Charger shares the rear-wheel-drive with the V8 engine configuration with its NASCAR counterparts. The Car of Tomorrow was used exclusively in 2008.This would lead Dodge and Ram to abandon its NASCAR (Sprint, Nationwide, and Camping World Truck-series) factory support efforts at the end of the 2012 season.Silver aluminum wheels became standard equipment over plastic hubcaps. The engine uses a timing chain instead of a belt. Engines are available with both the 5-speed and 8-speed automatic transmissions. It is mechanically identical to the Chrysler 300 SRT-8.Chrysler began putting the Dodge logo with slanted red rectangles on the grilles of the SRT8 halfway through the 2012 model year.In the Mopar Edition, there are several appearance and performance changes to set it apart from the rest of the production models that year. The interior is finished in the same black as seen on the outside except for a splash of chrome and carbon fiber dash and center console, along with a pistol grip shifter. The Mopar blue stripe is carried to the interior as a part of the driver's front seat and the left side rear passenger seat. The performance of the Mopar edition Charger is improved with the Super Track Pack, a 3.91 final drive gear ratio, a three-mode traction control, heavy-duty brakes, larger stability bars, front and rear strut tower bars, as well as a sport-tuned steering rack. This failure could lead to loss of vehicle control, which increases crash risk.Although the new cars received positive reviews by the automotive press and in track testing, attempts by Dodge Motorsports to get other teams to switch to the new Charger for 2013 came to naught, and Dodge folded its NASCAR racing efforts in all series except the NASCAR Pinty's Series, which is dominated by Dodge cars. The Blacktop Package was also available in model years 2012 and 2013 for the Charger V6 model. Horsepower was increased to 300 through the use of cold air intake and less restrictive exhaust systems.US models arrived at Dodge dealerships nationwide in the first quarter of 2013.The 30-second commercial shows the endurance of the Charger as it survives obstacles in a changing world, ending with a transformed planet Earth in the year 2046 where 'only the defiant survive.' In addition, the Dodge Defiance Arkfall Sweepstakes featured fans of Dodge and Defiance competing against each other, vying for the grand prize of a trip for two to the world's largest pop culture event taking place in California in summer 2013.Except for the Police Pursuit version (which retains the 5 speed automatic), the only available transmission is the Chrysler eight-speed automatic, coupled with optional all-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive system automatically removes power to the front axle when not required, giving an improvement in fuel economy. The available 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen radio with available navigation has been revised, now including Uconnect Apps. All engines are now backed by the ZF 8HP 8-Speed Automatic transmissions co-produced by ZF (previously only V6 models used the ZF 8-speed). There have been revisions to the chassis components, including Electric-Assist power steering, which replaces the previous models Electro-Hydraulic Assist power steering. New aluminum rear differentials now use 4-mounting bolts for rigidity.Present for the ceremony were Sandra Bullock, Mizz Nina, Michelle Yeoh, and Fan Bingbing. It includes the same 707 hp (527 kW; 717 PS), 650 lb?ft (880 N?m), 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 present in the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. The Charger Hellcat features a redesigned front fascia with a larger lower grille similar to the current generation Dodge Viper. The powertrain of the SRT 392 is present, as are the front and rear bumpers, but leather upholstery is optional (as opposed to standard), the suspension uses fixed-rate Bilstein shocks, the brakes are slightly smaller, and the wheel and tire package is narrower. The following are included:Like the Challenger Redeye, it is equipped with a supercharged 6.2L V8 rated at 797 hp (594 kW; 808 PS) and 707 lb?ft (959 N?m) of torque, an increase of 90 hp (67 kW) and 57 lb?ft (77 N?m) over the standard Hellcat motor. Other upgrades include reinforced ZF 8 speed automatic transmission, track-tuned suspension, torque reserve and 41-spline heavy-duty half-shafts, SRT power chiller, and after-run chiller. It made its debut at the 2005 New York International Auto Show. Unlike the civilian version, the police version features upgraded heavy-duty brakes, a severe-duty cooling system, police-performance Electronic Stability Program, police performance-tuned steering, and a gear shifter that is mounted on the steering column instead of in the center console. The Charger is also in service with the U.S. federal government and in its military police services.Through mid-2014, there was a 3.6 RWD model, and a V8-RWD model. In mid-2014, A V8-AWD model became optional, along with a BR9 brake package. For the 2015 model year, the Dodge Charger Pursuit also received a facelift like its retail version. By 2017, the Charger Pursuit and Explorer Interceptor essentially shared the sales award, as sales of the ultra-high-performance AWD Charger rapidly increased. In 2020, in part because of limited A580 transmission availability, the entire factory allotment of Charger Pursuits sold out in only a few months' time. Only two models were available in 2020, the RWD 3.6L and the V8-AWD model. Besides the adaptation of the excellent 8-spd autos, Chrysler tamed down the hot rod Dodges a bit, by instituting electronically limited top speeds of 140 mph on both models, down about a dozen on the V8 cars. Agencies now have the ability to configure the cars downward from 140 mph to a speed of their choosing. Bid pricing of the Ford is much higher than ether Charger, however, which means the turbo Ford will maintain its slow-selling status. These cars are expected to have new powerplants, including hybrid models, and electrics. Dodge is promising performance that exceeds that of today's cars. The best news for fleet managers is that there will be a pursuit-rated sedan from Stellantis Fleet on the market for a long time to come. The Charger shared the LX platform with the Chrysler 300, the newer fourth generation Dodge Challenger, and the discontinued Dodge Magnum.January 7, 2011.
