The CBC is operated by rotating the handle counterclockwise to charge. The switch can be closed only after the opening spring has been charged. Some of the basic function, design, requirements for maintenance, and testing methods for bolted pressure switches are described here. The electrical circuit is broken when pressure is applied to the bolted pressure switch. Bolted pressure switches can be found in the switchboard. It runs automatically, with high pressure being put on the blade when the switch is closed. The only things that have to be done manually for a bolted pressure switch are maintenance and testing. A bolted pressure switch comes in 800, 1200, 1600, 2000, 2500, 3000, or 4000 amperes. The amperes rating are the unit of measurement for the electrical current and energy flowing through the electrical wires to a device or an appliance. They can be picked by certain specifications. A bolted pressure switch is chosen by identifying the correct switch point range, deadband, and accuracy. It is a knife-type switch in design. We are getting what appears to be nuisance trips. I believe the switch needs rebuilding as the indicator shows fault even when the switch is closed. I'm wondering if there is a fault on the system tha is not large enough to trip the switch or if the switch is bad. Also can someone tell me the minimum fault curent needed to trip the switch. Thanx You need to have someone investigate what you have. When we had a very damp day with a lot of moisture in the air, sometimes a fuse would blow on one phase. This was a 600 volt, 3-phase 600-amp. switch. I had the men check the load side wiring with a 1000 volt megger, but they could not find any bad readings to ground, or shorted across phases. The first-line supervisor wanted to use a hypot tester to find the problem, but I would not allow him to use the hypot, my feeling is that the hypot can be a destructive test. Well one day, when I was not available and a fuse blew, the first-line supervisor used the hypot tester on the Pringer switch load side wiring, and he found the problem. The switch was mounted on a slate material. When he applied a high voltage,(and I do not recall what voltage level that he applied) he found on the slate a track of current going to ground. And this was our problem. They dug out the burnt track in the slate, and sealed it with an insulating glyptal. They were able to put the switch back in service and then he ordered a new slate for the switch. Moral of this story, we would never have found the problem with using the megger. I am thinking now, if we had used the 5000 volt megger, would we have found the problem initially. But this could be a down stream fault due to moisture. On one 400A feeder we do show 3.3A on the ground but this shouldn't trip the switch.Most of the time when something happens it's to late and the switch needs to be replaced. Think about it how often does the switch operate.Then when something trips it and you can't reset it. I had the problem and had to replaced two 3000amp switches in the building. The owner took my advice and started having the switchgear serviced every year. Contact resistance problems, lubricant seized not allowing switch to open. But the ques. with the ground fault most of them have a zero sequence type sensor.Depending on loading this could be set too low or not tripping in the correct time setting. Be careful on the trip delay because of the arc flash hazards But this would rule out nuisance trips based on problems with the ground fault system. Also dealing with pringle switches recommend DLRO testing and infrared once a year at least. But it may too late. We have been in the building for two years and have no records of any service on the switch. These switches are usually installed within low voltage system applications at a relatively inexpensive initial cost with an extended lifecycle and a high ampacity rating. Whether the brand is Boltswitch, Pringle Switch, BP switch or Bolt-Loc, it is imperative that these assets be subject to regular, routine preventive maintenance. As a result, the switches can go long periods of time with inactivity. That inactivity has consequences. The contact grease can harden and the spring-loaded operator can seize. Without routine maintenance, the switch may not open on command or may have trouble closing. To ensure reliable operation, these units need to be operated, cleaned and tested. Frequently test and operate bolted pressure switches according to the manufacturer’s specifications and NETA’s guidelines. Skipping these steps could have a dire impact on your buildings. Realizing it was not sufficient to merely ask investigators to publish their collection of imaging and clinical data, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) created the open source National Biomedical Image Archive software package as a mechanism for centralized hosting of cancer related imaging. NCI has contracted with Washington University in Saint Louis to create The Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA)—an open-source, open-access information resource to support research, development, and educational initiatives utilizing advanced medical imaging of cancer. In its first year of operation, TCIA accumulated 23 collections (3.3 million images). Operating and maintaining a high-availability image archive is a complex challenge involving varied archive-specific resources and driven by the needs of both image submitters and image consumers. Quality archives of any type (traditional library, PubMed, refereed journals) require management and customer service. This paper describes the management tasks and user support model for TCIA. The TCGA Data Portal provides a platform for researchers to search, download, and analyze data sets generated by TCGA. Current National Institutes of Health (NIH) research funding favors both collaborative efforts and sharable data in hopes of decreasing the time to achieve new levels of understanding and therapies. This, in turn, has stoked demands for collaborative initiatives to produce large and sharable data repositories, along with tools and resources to manage and analyze these data. In 2005, and driven by projects that required standardized imaging data sets to support cancer research, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) initiated the development of a software environment that would support research-centric archiving of cancer imaging data. The software was to be open-source, vendor neutral, and to support the submission, curation, and public distribution of cancer image data. As NBIA matured, it became evident that robust software combined with a basic help-desk alone was not sufficient to provide the support demanded by the varied needs of the cancer community. In 2010, NCI released a Request for Proposal for the development and management of a cancer imaging archive service that would provide the cancer research community the critical image-data-sharing resource that it required. In December, 2010, Washington University’s (Saint Louis, Missouri) Electronic Radiology Laboratory (hereafter “WUSTL”) was awarded the sub-contract to build and manage a full-featured cancer imaging archive service that would support NCI-funded research activities and the cancer research community at large.
