This is an excellent tool for any academic writer at all levels from undergraduate to post-doctoral.The front cover is a little bent and the spine is a little more worn, but I would have to agree with the condition status. Also, I ordered this book on Saturday, January 7th and received the package on Monday, January 9th, which is great because my college semester just started and I needed this book for the first day of class. The material covered in this class textbook really gives you insight on how to write essays well and make an argument in your writing.http://swampseafood.com/userfiles/how-to-get-manuals-in-ghostbusters-app.xml

Amazon Customer 1.0 out of 5 stars It also said on the book twice that it was a “free copy” and “not for resale.” There was no picture, so I shouldn’t have bought it, but I was desperate. Never buy anything without a photo. This book is great as a reference book, but it is boringly bad. I mean like watching paint dry in the dark while listening to Justin Bieber bad. I would have rather had my toenails pulled out by wild mustangs while eating rancid tuna fish sandwiches than read this book for pleasure. Unfortunately those alternatives were not available as options in my college English class, so I read the bare minimum. If I could give it zero stars I would. It was completely different from the book my classmates had, so I did not get to do my assignments. Thirteen chapters of rhetorical instruction introduce students to college-level inquiry, analysis, and argument with 28 integrated readings on interdisciplinary topics. The fifth edition includes nine new readings and increased emphasis on using critical thinking and critical reading to evaluate multiple perspectives and stretch beyond the binary thinking of today’s public discourse. Coverage of current practices in academic writing introduces students to core intellectual and rhetorical moves—from habits of academic thinking and critical reading to drafting and developing a researched argument.Academic writing can be difficult and demanding; Greene and Lidinsky select the most thoughtful, well-researched, carefully argued, and thoroughly documented academic essays. Fascinating topics, imaginative use of research and evidence, and surprising insights and conclusions maintain student interest. Examples throughout the text include student essays annotated to highlight the effective practice of academic writing habits and skills. Selection headnotes provide biographical and contextual information, and many practice sequences encourage students to dig deeper into the readings and draw connections between the readings and the chapter discussion. Resources for Teaching From Inquiry to Academic Writing includes help for instructors new to the book’s approach to academic writing, with tips for planning the course, detailed discussions of every chapter and reading, suggested responses or answers to various assignments, and suggested in-class activities. Achieve is a flexible, integrated suite of tools for designing and facilitating writing assignments, paired with actionable insights that make students’ progress toward outcomes clear and measurable. Developed to support best practices in commenting on student drafts, Achieve includes an e-book, fully editable pre-built assignments that support the book’s approach, reading comprehension quizzes, and other interactive materials.Appearing throughout the text, these boxes use examples from the reading selections to demonstrate specific rhetorical moves such as summarizing, making a claim, and conceding a point. Then, sentence guides prompt students to try out those moves in their own writing. The result is a toolkit of models for students to work from and a jumping-off point for instructors to discuss issues of style. For example, The fifth edition includes expanded advice for analyzing appeals (Chapter 2), integrating ideas from sources while avoiding plagiarism (Chapter 8), using quotations and signal phrases (Chapter 8), and assessing the accuracy and credibility of sources and visuals (Chapters 7 and 10). The chapter includes new examples and a new section on analyzing infographics. It is useful for pushing students to see that academic writing requires rigorous work in multiple areas while providing them the tools to break down this work.” --Jess Landis, Franklin Pierce University He is associate professor of English with a joint appointment in Africana Studies at Notre Dame. His research has examined the intersections of race, poverty, and achievement in public schools.
