Simple, clear instructions. Bold, clear, and readable graphics. A great overview of many styles through the ages. Good info on using historically accurate writing tools. The fonts are big enough to read, for one thing. Light gray seems to be a font color of choice in too many art instructional books nowadays. This one is uses black. Hooray. It has extensive information regarding the tools, inks, and paper types for calligraphy, as well as detailed yet not exhaustive history of each script. The book is organized by the evolution of calligraphy alphabets from the Roman times. The stroke diagrams are present for each letter, making a very clear illustration of how each letter is formed. It gives tips and tricks about rotating the pen, the correct nibs to use for each alphabet, and displays historical variations of certain letters. I don't have this info in any of my other books. Harris utilizes multiple colors to illustrate the order of the strokes. The GLOSSARY in this book is fantastic. Any term you come up against, you can find it in this glossary. Saves a LOT of time instead of searching each page for the definition. There is a reference table of all the letterforms in the book, which makes it easy to decide which hand you may want to utilize at any given time. And to top it all off, there's a comprehensive bibliography. So, if you want to research anything on your own you have a great guide. I REALLY wish this book was spiral-bound so it would lay flat without a lot of bending and creasing, but it is NOT spiral-bound. It is a regular paperback. However, once you do your creasing and bending and folding, the pages eventually stay open and flat. I have resorted to clipping my pages open with a binder clip because the book is still new. Mr. Harris, if you are reading this review, PLEASE PRINT THIS BOOK WITH A SPIRAL BINDING!!!! Otherwise, 2 thumbs up!The timeline chart and the script comparison chart are worth the price of the book, but there are so many clear instructions and illustrations on every page. This has quickly become my go-to ductus book. There are also hundreds of little factoids and bits of info stuffed in this relatively thin volume, but it's presented in a clean and clear manner so that you never feel overwhelmed. Terrific reference book for SCA calligraphers.I am enjoying it very much!Beautifully done.Truly one of the greats. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in both the history and practical art of calligraphy. Don't go without this book. You don't have to do that to yourself.A great number of calligraphic; styles are introduced, with illustrations on how to draw each letter showing nib angles and strokes which is just what one needs to learn. History of calligraphy and tools are also introduced.Thorough and clear. Very glad I bought this.http://vesimport.ru/userfiles/horde-webmail-manual.xmlShows letter forms clearly. Elena B. 5.0 out of 5 stars It is a classic and a masterpiece. The author always does excellent work. This book charts that development, presenting scripts in both historical and practical contexts. Calligraphers of all levels will be able to explore the origins of each script and understand anew the construction of the 26 letters that we use every day. The historical examples are abundant, and are printed clearly enough that the larger examples can be used as models. Also, in a genre of books where the script exemplars tend to look nothing whatsoever like the historical examples, many of the scripts in The Art of Calligraphy actually look like the examples. That's rare praise. I'm working on F The historical examples are abundant, and are printed clearly enough that the larger examples can be used as models. I'm working on Fraktur now, and I consult the historical example when I have questions about the script exemplar.https://events.citeve.pt/chat-conversation/ean-600-manual You can't do that with most calligraphy books, even the otherwise excellent Medieval Calligraphy: Its History and Technique. If you want to learn scripts as they were actually written, that's priceless. The ductus provided are excellent, and tips on the finer details of the scripts are inserted in the ductus descriptions and around the margins of the page. The tips are valuable. I learned from them even when reading pages on scripts I'd already studied exhaustively. However, each script gets only one two-page spread of instruction, total. Casual readers may find this a blessing. There's enough information to learn to write a close resemblance of the historical script, but not too much to overload you. Calligraphers who are good at picking up the details on their own won't need more, especially with the excellent historical examples included. People in the middle--that's me--may find that they want more information. But I can't complain too much. The book is beautiful, the exemplar scripts are easy to learn from, and the scripts are both attractive and rare. Well worth reading. With this book it showed me techniques and skills used hundreds of years ago to perfect calligraphy and gothic writting. This is a wonderful book and I recommend it to people that want to improve their handwriting!! Ever wonder how we came from Roman type, to Celtic swirls, to English Copperplate to a more German Blackletter. Well, the timeline in this book shows you all that. Also, there is a wonderful chart at the back that has all the letters of all the 20 different alphabets as a quick-view. At the beginning you find the usual Ever wonder how we came from Roman type, to Celtic swirls, to English Copperplate to a more German Blackletter. Well, the timeline in this book shows you all that. Also, there is a wonderful chart at the back that has all the letters of all the 20 different alphabets as a quick-view. At the beginning you find the usual items you need to work at calligraphy, how to do it (properly) and then in between also lots and lots of examples of real documents! (I love those examples so much). This book has less of the more modern calligraphy (so works of art featuring calligraphy) but there are better books for that. All the major Latin--based scripts are included ---- from Roman Imperial and Caroline to Gothic, Renaissance, and Copperplate scripts. The Art of Calligraphy features the very best historical and contemporary examples of each style, offering guidance and inspiration in this age of computer--generated type. The Samsung PL Series digital cameras are a range of fantastic compact digital cameras that not only look good, but they also boast a whole host of functions too. The innovative, clever and appealing features have made the Samsung PL series very successful and well admired among technology critics. Features of the Samsung PL series digital cameras The benefit of Samsung cameras is that they tend to be laden with features. Some of the advantages you can expect to find include the blink detection, built-in speaker, HD video recording and auto power save. The blink detection feature uses computerised technology to detect a face and eyes and then uses the technology to determine whether the eyes have blinked during the photograph timeframe. This is a great feature that enables you to take a great portrait and know straight away if the photograph could be improved or needs to be taken again. Having the built-in speaker enables you to replay any videos you record on your camera and not only replay the video to watch the imagery, but also listen to the sounds in the recording. A great way to check if the video has captured all the sounds you wanted and also allows you to relive fantastic memories by watching on your camera and not having to wait until you have loaded your video to another device. HD video recording saves you from having to carry around a camera and a camcorder. Some of the Samsung PL series cameras offer fantastic filming technology complete with high resolution to give you a crystal-clear view and stunning contrast. Auto power save makes sure your camera battery lasts for even longer, Samsung also offer an auto power save option. This is a great function if you forget to turn your camera off when you have finished using it and makes sure that you can take even more photographs on a single battery charge. The headlining feature on the PL210 is the 10x optical zoom lens, which as a 35mm equivalent of 27 - 270mm, packed into a slim body, making it easy to take pictures of both landscapes and landmarks. To ensure pictures are sharp, the camera has Dual Image Stabilisation - both optical and digital. Smart Auto 2.0 automatically adjusts the camera to make picture and video taking as easy as possible. To help take more creative pictures there is a range of Smart Filters, these include Miniature, Soft Focus and Palette Effect, among many more. Smart Face Recognition automatically focuses and exposes on 20 faces that have been designated on the camera. The PL210 can shoot 720p HD videos at 30fps, the 10x zoom can even be used during video recording. Key Features The PL210 is a well built, smart looking camera and is considerably thin, given the 10x optical zoom lens. Holding the camera is easy and the buttons are easy to press. As well as the typical buttons you'd expect to find on a compact camera, there are dedicated buttons to switch between the modes and an Fn button, which takes you straight to the menu where you can change the settings available when setting up your shot. The menus are easy to navigate and understand. On the rear is a 3.0 inch LCD screen, which is bright and clear to view in all lighting conditions, thanks to the Intelligent LCD brightness automatically adjusting the brightness. Using continuous shooting the camera takes full size images at 0.8fps. Using Motion Capture the camera shoots at around 6.4fps, although picture size is limited to 640 x 480 pixels. AEB mode takes three images at different exposures, these images can be combined, in Photoshop for example, to create HDR images. Samsung PL210: Performance. The PL210 takes well exposed images with really good colour reproduction. When the lens is at its widest detail is better in the centre of the images and become slightly blurry in the corners. In the picture below there is some purple fringing in the trees. At its longest, again, detail is better towards the centre of the images but not as blurry in the corners. Focusing at 5cm from the subject, the camera is capable of taking excellent macro shots. Noise slowly gets worse through ISO200 and ISO400, but good images are still produced. At ISO800 significant amount of detail is lost, again worsening at ISO1600. There is plenty of noise at ISO3200. The pleasing aspect is that although more detail gets lost through the ISO range, colours are unaffected. Images produced at ISO1600 and ISO3200 are likely to be best suited for small prints an use on the web. Landscapes also look good, with the camera giving a boost to the greens and blues in images. Using the fluorescent preset under the fluorescent lights gives a slight green cast in the image, the AWB preset does a much better job. Be aware, some of the filters don't record at the full 14.2 megapixel resolution. Optical zoom can be used during recording. The PL210 is capable of taking colourful pictures and is well priced considering the amount of optical zoom available. With the cameras ability to take excellent macro and portrait pictures as well as its range of Smart Filters, there is plenty for the compact user to get their teeth into. The camera is let down by noise in images at higher ISO ranges and less detail in the corners of images, but overall, the Samsung PL210 is a fine digital compact camera. Samsung PL210: Pros Palette Effect adds an ultra-vivid vibe and a variety of colour options for your images. A fun way to play with your photos!
