The authors describe simple self-help techniques and practical tips derived from years of helping people with anxiety problems. This book enables the reader to: assess what changes you need to make; create a personal recovery programme; set realistic goals and work towards them; change unhelpful ways of thinking; and, take back control of your life. The techniques can be used for all forms of anxiety: phobias (including Agoraphobia and Social Phobia), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Panic Attacks and General Anxiety Disorder. However bad your anxiety, and however long you've had it, you can recover. Using true life examples from anxiety sufferers, this book shows you just how you can do it. Then you can start reading Kindle books on your smartphone, tablet, or computer - no Kindle device required. You don't open the book and feel overwhelmed, inadequate or misunderstood. M James 5.0 out of 5 stars Apparently it is meant for people with anxiety problems like panic or OCD but I think it would be great for anyone who gets worried about things - like an interview or an exam. You could do breathing exercises and calm yourself down etc. It's also great for people who want to use the techniques to avoid anxiety recurring as in my case. I like that it is easy to read and the authors wrote the book in a user-friendly way. I recommend it to anyone trying to lower their stress or anxiety level. You get the feeling that they've heard all the excuses and have an answer for every one. So there's no more putting it off, the book makes you want to do all the things you know you ought to do, like eating healthily and getting exercise, and then it helps you understand how anxiety works and how it talks to you in your head and how you don't have to listen to it, which is really cool. It is easy to read and makes you realize you are not alone.Spam comments on blogs to get more traffic is a sad and pathetic way to get yourself seen. If the authors don't have enough credentials or expertise to get themselves seen without using spam, I'd hate to see what the level of advice is like in the book. Spammers should never be trusted. Nor should people who hire spammers. Just my opinion.I have read the whole book. 3 chapters each day. It is clearly written.http://scro.ru/pic/fowles-and-cassiday-solutions-manual.xml I decided to be strict and not only read the book BUT APPLYING the techniques.I have seen improvement in short time. And I will keep following these guidleines and make them a way of life. Anxiety has stopped my life and had an effect in all parts of my life to the point that I had been isolated (Social Phobias)., changing jobs for small reasons. Now I have realised the effect that anxiety had on me. As I have no faith in doctors I visited few times but they seem to offer medications without discussing the ROOTS of your anxiety or even healthy diet and exercise which have an impact on anxiety as the book recommends. I really like to THANK the authors of this book for helping me with my anxiety which was a part of my life for more than 30 years. This book cost me only 10 pounds and had managed to eliminate my anxiety to manageable levels and only applying the techniques for 2 months now. I spent hundreds of euros to doctors and the medications did not work at all. I was always suspicious of pshyciatrist as they do not help you at all They see you as a way to offer medication and get money. I bought this book last year but only recently I decided to read it as I was sceptical. I will try to become a volunteer in helping people with anxiety Having passed from this I will be more than able to help. And doctors believe me are clueless and they do not worth the money they get. MichalisWhereas it acknowledges the value of counselling and medication, the underlying philosophy is that anxiety is a problem that can and should be overcome by the efforts of the sufferer through setting a ladder of challenging but achievable goals, one memorable example being that for someone with severe agoraphobia, even putting a coat on and walking as far as the front door may be a realistic first goal.http://www.bosport.be/newsletter/e-core-audio-manual It also gives lots of helpful suggestions on lifestyle - the single suggestion of making sure you eat something within 20 minutes of getting up was a great help to me, someone who has suffered from quite severe anxiety, particularly in the mornings. The book doesn't go into depth about the theory behind anxiety (although I assume that there are plenty of books that do) and parts of the book may be irrelevant to some readers since it covers a range of anxiety-related disorders. I also found that the testimonies from other anxiety and OCD sufferers added little to the book. On the other hand, there should be enough for everyone to make this a very well spent tenner for anyone suffering from anxiety. It has tips and tasks to complete ext. Would definitely highly recommend this productI found it to be invaluable and the excercises are excellent. It is written in a fantastic format - very easy to read and flows in a way that inspires you to carry on to the end whilst starting the self help excercises right away. I would not like to be without this book as it has helped me enormously. A couple items that stood out to me were 1. to have a worry journal and only allow yourself to worry about something for a certain designated time every day. The rest of the time, relax and enjoy the moment. Another tidbit was 2. that in order to be truly happy you have to learn to be sad. I think in our society too often we are told that everything has to be fun and exciting and wonderful, but that’s just not what life was created to be. Worth a read. Forty million adults in the United States, or roughly 18 of the population, are diagnosed with some form of anxiety disorder every year. ? ?Some options include talk therapy, meditation, breathing exercises, and a healthy lifestyle routine. Self-help books that target anxiety management can also be a very useful part of the treatment journey. Psychotherapist Jennifer Shannon teaches us to accept how our anxious brains operate, while not allowing the anxious thoughts to escalate and take over all pleasant parts of life. Learning to listen to the pain rather than avoiding it helps heal it instead of intensifying it.While it’s best to use workbooks in conjunction with therapy, Dr. David Lawson designed this workbook to address the anxiety caused by personality disorders and feelings of overwhelm when anxiety strikes. After publishing 20 books, Dr. Shad Helmstetter has condensed his years of experience into a 60-minute read. With simple language and effective techniques, this book is made for the busy person who just needs to know what works. Look for language that you jive with personally and find easy to understand and implement. Books that combine humor and stories with techniques help us better remember the learned concepts. A lengthy, in-depth book will not help if you are in a chaotic phase of life. A longer, more in-depth book may be helpful if you are carving out time specifically to address your anxiety and wellness. Not everyone will have the same kind of healing journey, so having many options to choose from is vitally important in creating a lifestyle that combats mental illness and promotes health and wellbeing. This medical condition affects around 264 million people across the globe — and women are nearly twice as likely as men to develop an anxiety disorder, according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA). Anxiety is best treated with counseling and medication, but self-help books can also be beneficial (they may complement traditional treatment). “Many self-help books offer a better understanding of what anxiety is, the role of your brain, and how thoughts can take over,” says Elizabeth Lombardo, Ph.D., a licensed clinical psychologist. As long as they're backed by research, these reads can be helpful for individuals who are in need of practical tools on a daily basis, notes L. Kevin Chapman, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist who specializes in anxiety disorders. According to Ellen Hendriksen, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist and author of How to Be Yourself: Quiet Your Inner Critic and Rise Above Social Anxiety, a solid anxiety self-help book meets three criteria: It articulates a feeling or experience you've carried for years but couldn’t identify, shrinks shame and isolation, and encourages you to move forward. “You might come away from a good self-help book with a changed attitude, different behavior, fresh motivation, or something else shiny and new to test-drive,” she says. To figure out which anxiety self-help books are most useful, we asked six mental health professionals to name their favorites. Snag one of their picks — and don't forget to grab a pencil, because a number of these reads require note-taking and actionable exercises. Sheela Raja, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist and associate professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, says it's updated to address modern stressors; and Ramani Durvasula, Ph.D., a licensed clinical psychologist and author of Should I Stay or Should I Go.You may be able to find more information about this and similar content at piano.io.
