Cisco discontinued Flip manufacture back when I first heard of it and bought mine. They did it for a good reason: unreliable manufacture. There are many, many stories about people buying the camera only to find it inoperative, having to return it and getting a different camera, sometimes several times until one works. You can imagine how frustrating this would be. I don't have to because it happened to me. I had to return the first Flip I bought to the retailer and got a different camera( same model) in return. That's the one I've used since. It's always charged, always been reliable and does a good job considering it has only digital zoom and not much of one at that. I was so taken with this camera( and its ease of use) that when I saw how the price on it had plummeted with Cisco's announcement I bought two more as back ups for lower prices than the first. I gave one away to a friend, encouraging him to use it to make a music video with his band. The other sat on the shelf until recently when I decided to crank it up and take it out for a spin. You guessed it: It didn't crank. So, imagine you've actually bought one of these that works and it stops. What then? There aren't any authorized repair shops. And you've paid what for it. You spent what on a warranty. After I'd had the Flip for a couple of years I came into possession of a Panasonic point and shoot camera- about the same size as the Flip. It had only a slightly better zoom. The thing is, the settings allowed it to be set to take really mega-pixel photos. The iPhone with the eight-ten megapixel camera takes better pictures and video than the Flip. The little Panasonic takes better pictures. Don't blow it on a Flip. The sound recording is, I have to say here, great. The Flip licks up everything. The camera operator has to be very careful to keep quiet while recording. I hope the one I gave away worked for the friend.Even from the beginning it didn't go well. We record kids' music lessons with this, usually one hour per lesson. There was once we recorded a lesson, and when we came home, the file was nowhere to be found on the video camera, after we searched every which way. We knew it was there because it took up 3.5 GB of space, yet the file couldn't be found in any location. Then recently this happened again, another one-hour recording couldn't be found but took up another 3.5 GB of space. So now we have a video camera with no free space to recording; and two files worth of 7 GB can't be located.The case was extremely marred with extreme deep scratches on the body. This did not affect the video quality, which was excellent, however: with fresh batteries installed the camera would only record for approximately five minutes, then give low battery alarm and then shut off. Batteries were removed and found to be almost depleted. Fresh batteries put back in, and same issue was duplicated - record for some minutes, then low battery alarm, then continue recording for another few minutes, the power down. Item was returned postage free and full refund was received. I do not recommend purchase of a used Flip UltraHD camera - spend a little more and get the newer model with rechargeable internal battery. (Flip Mino)Too bad Cisco dropped 'em. A camcorder that can be used by people who don't really get along with technology, just as readily as those who can dismantle your cellphone and put it back together in under a minute. It was also intended make painless the process of sharing the video you just recorded. In all of these areas, it definitely does the job. What this device isn't, is a top-end, professional, 1080p, studio-quality, waterproof, infinitely-expandable camcorder. Bang for the buck, this camera is worth it. It's really a shame that Cisco dropped this line, they could have gotten a lot more business out of it. Let's go over some pros and cons. CONS: -Cisco discontinued this product line indefinitely. -Not 1080p. -No expandable memory slot. -No still-photo option (though you can choose individual frames from the videos with the included software) -The included rechargeable battery may not last long enough to get the full 2 hours of video (though you can put different batteries in it, maybe some longer-lasting digital camera batteries). -For a portable carry-everywhere camera, it could use some waterproofing and extra durability. -The included software seems to be a bit buggy, specifically in regard to downloading product updates. But, being that it's discontinued, I wouldn't expect anymore software updates;D. When I was shopping, I was comparing this camera to the Kodak PlaySport (Zx3) HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera. It does 5MP still photos, captures 1080p video, it's waterproof and the camera line is still in business. I may still go look at that Kodak for myself (I like to think I'll be more responsible with the SD cards floating around but I'm just a guy haha) but this little Flip has filled exactly the gap it was supposed to. Here's hoping Cisco revises their opinion of the Flip line and brings it back. Regardless, as I mentioned, you can still pick up this camera in lots of places as long as stock is available. Snowboard Boot Lacing Systems If there is one thing other than comfort that can make you love or hate a pair of snowboard boots, it’s the lacing system. How you tie your boots can either be super easy or a right pain. Ultimately, lacing systems come down to personal preference so let’s take a look at the most popular methods. Traditional Lacing System A traditional lacing system refers to that thing you have been doing since you first mastered the double knot. Traditional laces are popular as they have a proven track record of just working and are easy to adjust. A traditional lacing system allows the rider to determine how tight they want each section of their boot to be. If the lace breaks no problem, just like with shoes the lace is easy and inexpensive to replace. One potential con of the traditional lacing system in snowboard boots is they take time to do. There are faster and easier systems available. BOA BOA systems have been around for years and have improved a lot. The BOA is essentially a ratchet system where the rider turns the dials until the boot is at the required tightness. There are some boots with one BOA but the best systems have two BOA systems. The two BOA snowboard boots allow the rider to tighten the upper and lower separately to ensure a tight fit. Using a BOA lacing system allows the rider not only to be able to tighten their boots quickly in the morning, but also are great for adjusting throughout the day. The BOA system is so fast and easy they are becoming popular with all brands. A potential con of the BOA system is replacing the wire lacing if they break. It has never happened to me personally, but I could see it being a pain. Similar to traditional lacing, a speed lacing system allows for you to adjust the tightness at different parts of the boot but within a much quicker system. Normally, a speed lacing system will have two handles (one for the upper laces and one for the lower laces) that are pulled and locked to keep the boot tight. A set back of speed lacing is that they can break due to the pressure on the laces over time. If you use this system you need to be careful with how hard you tighten the boots. Snowboard Boot Liners Your snowboard boots liner will mould to your feet over time regardless of whether they are heat moulded. Essentially the more you snowboard or wear your boots around the house the more comfortable they become. This process just uses the heat produced by your movements to mould the liner over time, however if you want a more precise fit sooner consider heat moulding your boots. Heat moulding requires your snowboard boot liners to be placed into a special oven. In the oven the liners are heated to an optimal temperature. Once removed from the oven you should get into your boots and tighten them as if you were about to snowboard. Standing in your riding position as they cool will help to mould the liner to your foot and will make the boot comfortable from the outset. Snowboard Boot Insoles A good snowboard boot sales advisor will recommend insoles to go in your boots. This may come across as a sales tactic but finding the right insole is well worth the extra money. The insoles that come with your boots will be flat and offer very little support, especially to riders with a high arch. Trim to fit insoles from brands like superfeet will be a cheaper insole option. These insoles come in a range of moulds and you choose the one that is best for your feet. Option two is fully custom insoles made from a mould of your feet. A custom insole will work perfectly for your feet and will provide the support you need. A custom insole will normally cost around ?80-?100 but they help keep your knees and ankles aligned which will reduce fatigue and injuries. Snowboard Socks With any snowboard boot, you will find it more comfortable to wear snowboard specific socks. You should make sure to wear your snowboard socks when shopping for boots as this will give the best indication of comfort. A snowboard sock is longer so that it can sit above the top of the boot eliminating pressure points. A snowboard specific sock will have padding where it is needed on the; toes, heels, shin, and calves but will be thinner elsewhere. This design will allow your foot to breathe better whilst providing comfort where it is needed. Consider a merino sock to wick sweat away from the foot whilst remaining warm and odour free. Boot And Binding Compatibility In most cases, if a boot and a binding are the correct size they will be compatible regardless of brand. Boots that are either too big or too small can cause a range of problems from lack of control of your board to painful feet when you’re riding. Wide feet will effectively experience all the same problems as boots which are too small. That means cramp and loss of circulation. If you’ve got narrow feet you might feel like your moving around too much in the boot and that your heel is lifting. But before we go over all the other considerations when buying a pair of boots it would be useful to go over some of the terminology. Most traditional laced boots com with lockable cleats about halfway up around the ankle so you can really tighten the lower half then lock it off The boot have two different laces, one for the top bottom part of the boot and one for the top with a handle on the end of the lace. You just need to pull on each lace handle to get them tight before locking them off in the cleats and stowing the handle away in its holster. Once you’ve got your boots nice and tight the dial is clicked in and locks off the cable.
