Shoffner 5.0 out of 5 stars The digital copy should weather better. For me, this is must read stuff for Celestron NexStars. Star parties are great but essentially everyone tends to there own equipment and you must learn to do the same. For me, telescopes, equipment and associated toys are expensive. This book helped me master my equipment and greatly complimented the manufactures manual. It is still my main reference bible and really, not a bad read. Also, there is a web site which updates this material and I recommend both for the starter. It has a lot of tips to buy, install, use a take care about the telescope. I recommended this book specially for the beginnerIt was helpful but it tries to do too much and it is not always easy to find the specific piece of information which you need.Page 1 of 1 Start over Page 1 of 1 Previous page Next page. Detailed information on the alignment and operation of these scopes provides a complete reference that expands greatly upon the manuals provided by Celestron. A chapter is devoted to updating the firmware in the hand control, mount and StarSense camera. Chapters on accessories, collimation, maintenance and troubleshooting tips round out the book's expansive coverage. Additionally, the book offers a brief, but thorough, introduction to amateur astronomy, making it an ideal source for both the beginner to astronomy as well as the seasoned veteran looking to get the most out of a new telescope. This updated edition has been completely rewritten to cover all current Celestron altitude-azimuth computerized telescopes (German EQ mounts are not discussed). Detailed information on the alignment and operation of these 'scopes provides a complete reference that expands greatly upon the manuals provided by Celestron. It also serves as a guide to buying the most suitable model for a variety of budgets and interests. Additionally, the book offers a brief, though complete, introduction to amateur astronomy, making it an ideal source for both the beginner astronomer as well as the seasoned veteran looking to get the most out of a new telescope. Shortly after purchasing his first NexStar telescope in the year 2000, he established what would quickly become the definitive Internet resource for NexStar telescopes - the NexStar Resource Site (NexStarSite.com). Since 2001, he has worked with Celestron in reviewing and testing their latest technologies, contributing numerous suggestions during the design process. Mad Mac 5.0 out of 5 stars But I couldn’t get the alignment procedure to work. I bought Patrick’s book as I couldn’t figure out what was wrong by reading the owners manual. Viola! Got it aligned and working the next night. Greater functionality and easier to do. A great reference for an experienced user - and lots of info for the beginner too!Since then, I’ve been doing as much reading as possible. I eventually came across the author’s website. I’m so glad I did. I saw that he was writing a book that would be out sometime this year, so I preordered it as soon as possible. It arrived today and I’m already soaking in the info. Thanks for the hard work putting this together! It is organized, well written, and incredibly informative with many tips and tricks to avoid hours of trolling the internet to find solutions.https://www.thebiketube.com/acros-dpo7000-service-manual It fills a critical void that instruction manuals just cannot provide. Using this book as a reference will make astronomy a much more pleasurable experience for all Celestron NexStar telescope users. It was my bible for that unit. I now have a 9.25 CPC, so it only makes sense to upgrade my reference source. Michael Swanson writes on my level. Everything seems to register, be logical content and very verifiable. He starts where the manufacture starts and ends where the user ends (understanding, operating, and maintaining an expensive piece of equipment). If you own or are thinking about owning a Celestron telescope, buy this book! This guide is up to date and covers every area of using my scope, far surpassing what is in the decade-old manual from Celestron. It is worth the money to me just for that part alone. The rest is icing on the cake. If you have a NexStar scope and especially if you have the StarSense Autoalign thingy, you need this manual.I bought a new Nexstar 6SE and the manual and support info available from Celestron are not sufficient to learn how to use it. This fills in all the gaps. This information is available at no cost. If you want the history of the product line this book is for you. If you want to use the telescope go to the internet.Well worth the money. Some of the higher end scopes are quite complex to set up and use properly. This book goes right into the details. Highly recommended. It is very easy to read and very helpful finding your way through the Celestron telescopes and beyond. The book is full of useful tips and tricks for amateur astronomer. This is a nice alternative to watching hours of youtube reviews and tutorials. I have been there as well to a certain extend but I have to say: I prefer the book. It is rather non-technical and yet well thought through and consistent throughout. If you have a Celestron scope, thinking of getting one or upgrading - get this book first. You will not regret it.Very informativePage 1 of 1 Start over Page 1 of 1 Previous page Next page. I used to be pleased if that happened two or three times in a night. And are you tormented by backlash. Do you hit the hand paddle’s arrow keys to nudge the aim and have to count to four before the scope actually moves. I was vaguely aware that my 8-inch had backlash compensation settings, but I had never bothered trying to adjust them. And now? Oh, the joy of (almost) backlash-free observing. I was surprised by the difference these small improvements made in the pleasure of my observing experience. The books in this series are written for hobbyists at all levels, from the enthusiastic newcomer to the veteran observer. They thus go far beyond more general, popular-level books in both scope and depth, exploring in detail the latest trends, techniques, and equipment being used by amateur astronomers around the world. All books in the series boast full-color images as well as practical sections for putting your newfound knowledge to use, including star charts and target objects, glossaries, hands-on DIY projects, troubleshooting walk-throughs, and a plethora of other helpful features. Overall, this series bridges the gap between the many introductory books available and more specialized technical publications, providing digestible, hands-on guides for those wishing to expand their knowledge of the night skies. Please enter a number between and. More models appeared in quick succession, and Celestron’s new range made it one of the two dominant manufacturers of affordable “go to” telescopes. You’ll find advice on how to fine-tune your alignment so that a new target will fall within the eyepiece’s field of view every time you slew. The price should be less than a fifth of what it is now. There is not advice about using the telescope for astrophotografy. General discussion of Celestron productsIt does not live up the standard of other Patrick Moore Astronomy Series books that I have read; it falls far, far short. There are many significant editing errors; for example, incomplete sentences where it is even difficult to determine what the author intended to write. The graphics are abysmal. You can't read the computer screenshots nor the text window of the hand control in the figures.I realised that the book is very repetitive and the portion where the history of the nexstar scope was given was not detailed. You can find a lot of the information from Celestron's website or cloudy nights. The evolution scope is supposed to be very intuitive, most of the book was stating the obvious such as how to use skyportal, the handcontroller etc. The graphics was also bad. These are some notes and some practices that we have collected for our SUNDOG BOOKS readers club. And maybe it will bring more books into your life! And you will be surprised, but your goals can be quite varied: And, with all the new alternative ways to gain knowledge (podcasts, online courses and videos), the book still does an excellent job of this task too. If you love literature, you will understand what we mean: you want to catch everything - to follow modern literature, and not forget about the classics, look into non-fiction and children's publications. And there’s so much you want to reread. The goals are ambitious, but attainable if you read a lot. Perhaps some will suit you as well. Once upon a time, we all read irregularly, in jumps and starts. Sometimes we cannot open a book we have begun weeks ago. Therefore, you should decide to create a rule: devote at least 15 minutes a day to reading. Try reading before bed, or maybe during lunchtime, or even when you are having your morning coffee. You will notice that almost always your 15 minutes will grow into half an hour or more. But the most remarkable thing is that in three weeks your hands themselves will be looking for a book. Life is too short to read uninteresting books. At first it will be hard for you to stop and put the book down. Even if we put the book away, it will seem to reproach us from the shelf, mocking us as quitters. But in the end we should come to one simple thought: if it doesn’t hook your attention, you should not force yourself to read it. Not the most objective, but definitely effective. It helps to determine whether it interests you or not, and whether to spend time on things that do not excite. For starters, it can be a simple notebook with headings: But, it can also motivate. When you open your diary and start looking at quotes (especially quotes), you immediately really want to read. Members of the betting group can come from friends, family, and also your colleagues. And of course you can set your own rules for participation, but we'll give you a simple example: Anyone who does not finish a review buys the book for all other participants for the next month. The logic here is simple - the faster you read, the more books you can enjoy. But, it is worth noting that this is a serious learning process that will require some effort on your part. Sometimes, instead of heading for Facebook, try opening a book and soon you won’t even remember why you needed to wander around social media. And also - don't forget about audiobooks. They are a cool way to take the load off your eyes sometimes and just immerse yourself in the story. Some books are really strong in voice acting.
