See, for a long time I was pushing online repair manuals from Alldata and Mitchell1. I made some money, and in all fairness, they have a great product. The online manuals gave excellent repair information, had the exploded views and wiring diagrams that I needed to fix my car plus kept me up to date on recalls and TSB information. Alldata was bought by AutoZone and they made the decision to release most of their DIY Repair information to the public on their website AutoZone.com. The reality is that many car brands were pulling their repair information off of AutoZone and coverage was getting thin. I believe AutoZone made the decision that this was no longer helping bring in parts sales and removed the repair information from their website. Due to these changes I am now 100 recommending Mitchell1 which has all the information you need to repair your car from a more stable company. Please note, these other methods are illegal and not a recommended way to procure an auto repair manual. Someone took the time to document the procedures and grabbing their work for free is stealing plain and simple. As they say, nothing in life is free, and you usually get what you pay for. While some auto repair manuals (such as AllData, Chilton, Haynes, Mitchell1) cost money, there are a few resources that you can access for free. The most you will need to do to access these manuals is register. Youcanic provides free car repair articles, step-by-step instructions on how to perform car repairs, and diagnostics. Depending on the make and model go check forums for that specific car.The only reason theres stuff available for everything pre-2015 is because some guy had enough balls to crack ELSAWin and post it for download whole. At least not that I've ever been able to find and not for a lack of trying. Most have a program available where you can access one of the big guys from home. Chiltons or Automate usually. You can pay for Alldatadiy if you have a single car you want good info on. Alldatadiy is better than what the library offers to home users. Michell1 DIY is also fairly good, but also costs a little bit of cash. It all depends on what you're trying to accomplish. PDFs and Paper books should be a thing of the past. Mitchell online is maybe the 2nd best thing to factory repair manuals, but normally you have to use it in the library and not just through the library's website. Some libraries carry a fairly new information service, AutoMate, from a company called EBSCO, which provides a lot of online databases. AutoMate is currently kind of skimpy but does seem to have some pages from factory service manuals. Sending your notebook to the place where you bought your notebook to upgrade the RAM will cost you double compared to do it yourself. Or if you’re the slightly more adventurous type and want to do something like replacing a broken laptop keyboard. Getting access to it is often a puzzle within itself. As a VERY basic test I tried to browse and download 5 completely random manuals from each site to see if they were actually available. Finding the document you desperately need listed and then discovering it isn’t there would be highly annoying. This isn’t to say every single manual on each site is there, but it does give a general idea of how likely what you’re looking for will actually be available if listed. 1. Schematics Unlimited Offers over 10,000 of Diagrams, Schematics, Datasheets and Service Manuals all downloadable in PDF format. There are around 600 manufacturers available in a big list or you can simply search for what you want. Documents ranging from old vehicles to consumer electronics are available. To download the document, enter the captcha and click the button. All 5 random manuals were there. 2. eServiceInfo eServiceInfo lists well over 50,000 datasheets, service manuals, schematics, diagrams and other informational documents for most types of electronic equipment from just about every manufacturer. They also host software downloads for things such as diagnostic software and ROM’s or EPROM’s. The huge database is fully searchable. There is also a forum where you can request a manual you need or perhaps share a manual someone else needs. Although there is no captcha or anything, you do get a limit of 50 downloads per day, and 500 per month. Enough for 99.9 of people. All 5 downloads I tried were available. 3. Manuals Online Manuals Online has over 300,000 manuals listed in the Manuals Online database ranging from baby care products and home appliances, to power tools and computers. There is also upward of 5,000 brands to search through. An online community is also available to share or seek information. Apart from there being an online viewer, you can also download the manual by using “View Original Manual”. All 5 random manuals were available. 4. UsersManualGuide UsersManualGuide is quite a small site relative to the others here, and it only lists around 20 brands. It has user manuals, operating instructions and guides for electronic equipment like mobile phones, cameras, PC Components such as monitors, software and home entertainment etc. Everything is listed by manufacturer and type, there is no search option. There are around 1 million datasheets available. All the files I found were in PDF format and the 5 I randomly downloaded for were all there. 6. SafeManuals.com The database on SafeManuals is over 3 million user guides from around 10,000 different brands. There is also a large number of catagories including; domestic appliances, automobiles, electronics and computers, sports equipment, jewelry and baby products. Once you select the manufacturer, a search box is available to narrow it down to your product. All the random PDF files I tried manuals were there, but there’s a rather odd flash based captcha system to get to the download. You either have to rate the product by clicking on a star system to rate on “Ease of use”, “Reliability” etc, and leave a short opinion (can be random text), or click the “Security code” link and enter a 4 digit captcha where you have to remember the numbers as they flash on the screen! 7. Manuals Mania With a quoted 700,000 manuals available, Manuals Mania has quite an extensive collection. Well, there you are, 7 websites where you’ll hopefully find the documentation you’re looking for. Of course, it’s always worth checking the manufacturer’s website if you get really stuck or try one of the sites with an online community which could help point you in the right direction. For example, the Seattle Public Library subscribes to the Alldata.com repair database and offers free access for their patrons (online and in the library). Other libraries subscribe to the Auto Repair Reference Center offered through EBSCO Publishing, or as in my case, Chilton's Online. Manufacturer sites: Some auto manufacturers also offer free service information online.. Hyundai is one - their Webtech page is aimed at dealers but you may be able to access it by registering. American Honda's Service Express offers free Owner's Manuals starting with 2002 Honda and Acura vehicles and some specific guides that mainly focus on audio and security options. They also offer a paid subscription version of Service Express at the same link that covers all vehicles back to 1990 plus all active Technical Service Bulletins back to the early 70's (the same info that is available to your local Honda or Acura tech). Autoparts and Enthusiast sites: If you are trying to install or remove an accessory, many online auto parts companies offer instructions. Crutchfield is well known for offering detailed instructions for car audio and video applications. The Install Doctor is another good site for radio installation info. Installdr.com. MyIsuzuParts, Toyotaparts4u and H and A Accessories are a few of other sites that offer instructions on installing various parts and accessories. Hondaautomotiveparts.com has a lot of exploded parts diagrams that can help you see how various components of your Honda fit together (thanks User777!). WJJeeps WJJeeps has lots of repair procedures for your Jeep Grand Cherokee. BAT Auto BAT Auto has lots of articles that may help you with your repair as well. Paid Sources: If you can't find free access to a manual, you can purchase access to various databases. There are lots of places to buy manuals on CD, DVD and paper - this guide tries to limit sources to those you can access with your computer. If your front axle won't go back in the splines at midnight on a Saturday, waiting for the UPS truck to arrive Monday morning with a manual isn't the greatest solution. So here's a listing of paid online sources - if you know of others, please reply and let others know about them. Mitchell1 also offers a subscription service geared towards pros and the price reflects that, but a one month subscription could be useful if you are doing a major overhaul on several different makes of cars. Good info here: Hyundai Online Shop Manuals Access RockAuto offers a tool where you can compare parts costs between different makes of cars. It's a bit similar to Edmunds' True Cost to Own calculator but limited to costs of parts. You may be surprised to learn that a replacement parts for the used car you are thinking of buying costs one and a half times more than parts for a different brand. RockAuto Repair Index Get TSBs and wiring diagrams for your car or truck. TSBs go back to 1960. Wiring diagrams are available from 1986 to 2010 currently. BBB Industries Are they do it your self jobs or take in? Couple of caveats- - Some of the plugs may be hard to get to, depending on engine orientation - Some of the plugs may have seized in the plug hole, making removal difficult If you do the job yourself, use some anti-seize compound on the threads of the new plugs, and use a small amount of dielectric grease on the boots of the plus wires.
