It has everything any rat owner would need, new or experienced. It is well formatted and just stuffed full of information. If you only get one book, get this one.The used condition rating held true as one page was cut out and the previous owner appeared to keep it under their rat cage (rat urine a seemed to be present, but it wiped off easily).Used this book often as a guide. Must have for first time rat owners.I found it very interesting to read about the differences and similarities between wild and pet rats. It also has a good chapter on food and what to feed them and why, which I found helpful and important.http://bentleyplemtech.ru/userfiles/fcs-fin-installation-manual.xml While this is not a book for a small child, it is good for those who are interested in not only the care and feeding for rats but also the scientific points about rats. I would recommend getting a few other rat books first though - I also enjoyed Rats: Complete Care Guide by Debbie Ducommun as well as Training Your Pet Rat (Training Your Pet Series) by Gerry Buscis. These books are far more detailed on caring for your pet rats.It covers all the basic stuff: caging, how to choose your rats, etc.I wouldn't pass this book up, but you should also consider a more detailed book if you really want the best for your pet rats. Up-to-date and informative, yet clear enough for young pet owners, with dozens of vivid color photos and accurate drawings. The book was in perfect condition and it was very informative. As a (first Rat)pet owner I am learning alot from this book! Thanks. Will include dust jacket if it originally came with one. Text will be unmarked and pages crisp. I knew that I would need to learn as much as I could about them quickly. This book does just that.It also gives you a bonus information on Rattie behaviour. I love reading it. It's my Rattie handbook. Very informative with lots of eye captivating, detailed pictures.http://schlammatlas.de/en/node/23997 I bought this book as a gift for a 12 yr old who was getting a pet rat for christmas. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness. I thought that this was a really incorrect recommendation, rats are social animals. Unless a person can spend alot of time with a rat I feel that it is cruel to only have one and there are alot of rat lovers that agree with me. I have 5 male rats at one point, they got along really well. At one point some of them did start to fight, I tried natural remedies-which can definately work in some cases-but they continued to fight so I had the trouble makers nuetured and then everyone got along great. If you have rats that fight check out rat web pages for solutions, alittle bit of bickering is to be expected.I read it and immediately threw it out. It is a horribly misleading book that should not be sold at all. It states that rats will not come when called by name or that will not bond to you. Tell this to my 12 rats that do exactly that. The author knows NOTHING about rat temperament. Other statements about what you can teach your rats are just plain wrong. The trifling details that are given about rat care are not enough to fill a thimble. Any current ir prospective owner should get Debbie Ducommun's books, Rat health Care, and Rats for Today's Pet Owner (this is available here). Just because a book is written by a vet does not mean it should be taken at face value. I give this book no stars because it deserves none. (no stars was not a valid choice, so I am telling you). PlantNerd 2.0 out of 5 stars The fact that it includes information which I know to be false(both from my own experience and from the multitude of other resources which contradict it) made it difficult to determine whether or not to believe any info in it that I had not previously heard or read. And the book isn't even that old. It should have much better info than it does. The previous reviewer covers most of the other inaccuracies. The only thing I really found valuable in the book was the descriptions of how rats live in the wild and what colony life is like. But I haven't read the same info anywhere else, so I have no way of verifying whether it is accurate or not. There are several areas in the book of inaccurate information. I have kept, raised and bred ratties for the past 13 years. I have been a member of ARMHS and The San Diego Fancy Rat and Mouse Club of San Diego. I specialized in English Irish Blues and Hairless and Dumbo Hairless. You would NEVER put a rattie in cedar or pine. The odors from them is very toxic to their lungs. As well as a few other things. This book does have excellant pictures. But The information is much more important. My own personal favorite is. The Proper Care of Rats by Nick Mays. But I don't know if that one is still around these days. She also states that previously the natural life expectency of rats was thought to be six to seven years. When did anyone think the life expectency of rats was that long?, I've read most books on rats and they all say the average life expectency of rats are two to three years, while some may live to four or five. Anyway this book should be bought with caution, there is alot of good info mixed with bad in this bookI have to admit, the book is very child like and a lot of the information contained within it is outdated. There has been many other books and lots of research done which states things like lettuce, guinea pig food, straw and some grasses along with other things are very bad for your rats, however this book advocates them. My advice is to stay clear of this book. Not for the experienced rodent keeper in my opinion. Needs a little more in depth genetics and behaviour, apart from that, excellent little book. The Zion Mule Corps and the Jewish Legion, both part of the British Army of World War I, would further bolster the Yishuv with military experience and manpower, forming the basis for later paramilitary forces. During World War II, the Yishuv participated in the British war effort, culminating in the formation of the Jewish Brigade. These would eventually form the backbone of the Israel Defense Forces, and provide it with its initial manpower and doctrine.Although Ben-Gurion had no legal authority to issue such an order, the order was made legal by the cabinet on 31 May. This was the background for the Altalena Affair, a confrontation surrounding weapons purchased by the Irgun resulting in a standoff between Irgun members and the newly created IDF. The affair came to an end when Altalena, the ship carrying the arms, was shelled by the IDF. Following the affair, all independent Irgun and Lehi units were either disbanded or merged into the IDF. The Palmach, a leading component of the Haganah, also joined the IDF with provisions, and Ben Gurion responded by disbanding its staff in 1949, after which many senior Palmach officers retired, notably its first commander, Yitzhak Sadeh. Directorates and corps were created from corps and services in the Haganah, and this basic structure in the IDF still exists today. In the 1956 Suez Crisis, the IDF's first serious test of strength after 1949, the new army captured the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt, which was later returned. In the 1967 Six-Day War, Israel conquered the Sinai Peninsula, Gaza Strip, West Bank (including East Jerusalem ) and Golan Heights from the surrounding Arab states, changing the balance of power in the region as well as the role of the IDF. In the following years leading up to the Yom Kippur War, the IDF fought in the War of Attrition against Egypt in the Sinai and a border war against the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in Jordan, culminating in the Battle of Karameh.
