D. 5.0 out of 5 stars The OBD scanner comes this week. I have no doubt BMW still has some secrets they are saving for the Dealer's service bay. On that note, you will need a set of Torx head sockets to do just about anything. An impact wrench would also be helpful. Everything is so tight that alone will discourage some driveway mechanics. Twisted the socket head right off a harbor freight bar and twisted my craftsman bar head about 20 degrees. Luckily I live in the city and could take Mini to the corner mechanic who loosened all the lug nuts for free. Thank you BMW!After looking through this, sure there are things that could be included like transmission internals but there are entire books on transmission overhaul anyway. I wish it was cheaper but you get what you pay for. This manual is great. This manual is very complete but it falls short in some areas, particularly photos of critical locations of bolts and installation or removal difficulties. For instance: I recently replaced the power steering pump on a 2004 Mini Cooper and the manual was sufficient to allow me to deduce the steps and gyrations needed, but it left out many useful details and the photos of bolt locations were misleading, etc. I am sure that all who have done this task would agree that the description in the manual leaves a LOT to be desired in describing the mounting bracket bolt locations above the cross member. The photo in the manual implies that they are visible (ha ha!) when in fact, their removal is a blind process completely. If you tackle this job yourself, be prepared to solve the puzzle of how to get the pump from its cozy location (only one way that I can see and its very tight!). I also found the hose clamps that are factory installed very difficult to remove. It would have been helpful to have a note in the manual about their removal, but I suppose that anyone who has worked on the Mini already knows that. I could not find a reference in the manual on any special tool for their removal. I also needed to remove the inner trim panel of the door to fix a loose speaker and the tool description for the panel removal is entirely vague. Just try buying the correct tool aftermarket based on the description from the manual. All that said, I found the manual helpful and complete enough for a serious backyard mechanic (which I am), but a little more detail and forethought for the neophyte would be much appreciated, I'm sure.Big and heavy, but very descriptive and lots of pictures to show you what to look for and where to find it in the vehicle. Useful whether you are a novice or a pro mechanic. The only saving grace for this manual is the short explanations about different systems in the car. It mabe worth a read at some point to find out how different systems work in my vehicle. I get more useful information from YouTube most of the time. Nice to have in a pinch. The wiring diagrams are not very clear, it will take some time flipping back and forth to different pages to get the whole picture of the circuit you are troubleshooting. It is very detailed in some of the mechanical repairs, but not always correct. For example, in replacing the starter, it recommends you remove the exhaust header. In the real world, removing exhaust parts (especially in the rust belt) is the LAST thing you want to do. It was not that difficult to work around it. Use the book to get an idea of what you are up against for the repair you are making, and rely on your experience to finish the job.Shipping was fast and packaging kept it nice. For example, brake bleeding is covered in the manual. It tells you where to start and specific cautions to observe. I also did a cooling system flush following the instructions. Finally, I removed and cleaned the wheel pulse generators (speed sensors). I just wish I had bought the manual before I had the dealer replace the knock sensor. It is true that the manual often refers to another section. However, that is because there is no need to repeat information. If the manual did that it would be 3 times the size. It is already big enough. The pictures are good and clarify a lot of the instructions. It is more detailed than any other manual I have seen for the Mini.It doesn't help, and now I found a free video on YouTube that did the trick. The book is OK for standard servicing, replacement of components, trim etc, but is not like a Haynes manual. Maybe it's because the car is too complex for the average punter, but I was disappointed. Save your money and find somebody that knows how to do what you are trying to do.Good printing quality. Not all units in doube format, i.e.: imperial and SI. Maybe a few more photos for the steps of work. Development of a modern successor to the Mini began in 1995 and an entirely new Mini model was launched in 2001 by BMW. Mini has participated in the World Rally Championship since 2011 through the Prodrive WRC Team. The Mini Mark I had three major UK updates: the Mark II, the Clubman and the Mark III. Within these was a series of variations including an estate car, a pickup truck, a van and the Mini Moke —a jeep -like buggy. This sparked a series of compact car concept vehicles from the company during the early 1990s.BMW insisted that even a compact model must feature traditional BMW characteristics (such as rear wheel drive ) to uphold the company's standards and image. Its first concept was the ACV30 which was unveiled at the 1997 Monte Carlo Rally. The name was partially an acronym of Anniversary Concept Vehicle, whilst the '30' represented the 30 years that had passed since a Mini first won the Monte Carlo Rally. These vehicles were a more realistic attempt to create a modern Mini, and coincided with BMW's official creation of the Mini project. The first aspect that was considered was the design, which was chosen from 15 full-sized design studies. Five of these designs came from BMW Germany, another five from BMW Designworks in California, four from Rover and one from an outside studio in Italy. The chosen design was from BMW Designworks and was designed by American designer, Frank Stephenson. The A-series engine came in a wide range of capacities, initially as an 848 cc, but later the 997, 998, 1071 and 1275 cc engines were added. An automatic, 4-speed transmission was introduced in 1965. In 1960, a 2-seater van was launched, along with an estate, both sharing a longer wheelbase. In 1961 the pickup was introduced, also based on the longer wheelbaseThe most visible changes were larger doors with concealed hinges. The boot lid lost the original hinged number plate and its recess shape and a large rear colour-coded lamp was fitted in its place, along with larger rear side windows. Sliding windows were replaced with winding windows—although some Australian-manufactured Mark I Minis had adopted this feature in 1965 (with opening quarterlight windows). In addition twin stalk indicators were introduced with larger foot pedals, and from 1977 onwards the rear indicator lamps had the reverse lights incorporated in them. The 998 cc power units were discontinued. Internal bonnet release were fitted from 1992.For this model twin point injection with front-mounted radiator was introduced, along with a full-width dashboard and driver's side airbag. It was available in Cooper, Cooper S and One variations at launch.
