Most books specify how the dive sites can be reached, by boat or by shore, but this book most often does not. For example, the description of Mahukona never mentions that it can be easily accessed from the shore. Yes, there is a solid steel ladder there and you need to swim maybe just 100 ft out into the sea on the surface, so Mahukona is likely the easiest shore dive on the island, but not a word about this in the book. The Outhouse site described on pages 51-54 is the same site as the popular among shore divers Alula beach; however, again the shore access is not mentioned. The same is true for Maui sites. So if you plan to do boat dives this book can be an interesting supplement to whatever reading you may find in dive shops. But if you plan to do mostly shore diving (plus maybe a night dive with manta rays) the book won't offer you much help.I was excited that this book covered some other dive sites, but it really doesn't go into enough depth to be worth it for me.The authors, who are also marine biologists and photographers, pointed out a lot of marine life that I previously didn't even know to look for. After reading, my dives were greatly enhanced having this added knowledge. And the photography was nice too. Very easy and interesting to read.
