craftsman cordless drill user manualDo not operate power tools in explosive atmo- spheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. Keep bystanders, children, and visitors away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control. Never use the cord to carry the charger. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts. Replace damaged cords immediately. Use of any other batteries may create a risk of fire. Use only with battery pack listed. Do not use tool while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. Contain long hair. Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. Be sure switch is in the locked or off position before inserting battery pack. Carrying tools with your finger on the switch or inserting the battery pack into a tool with the switch on, invites accidents. Remove adjusting keys or wrenches before turn- ing the tool on. Always wear eye protection. Dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection must be used for appropriate conditions. Tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects like: paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal objects that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause sparks, burns, or a fire. Maintain tools with care. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. If damaged, have the tool serviced before using. Accessories that may be suitable for one tool, may create a risk of injury when used on another tool. Service Tool service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel. Service or maintenance performed by unqualified personnel could result in a risk of injury. When servicing a tool, use only identical replace- ment parts. Follow instructions in the Maintenance section of this manual.http://clientcashrewards.com/images/eton-viper-90r-service-manual(1).xml

Use of unauthorized parts or failure to follow Maintenance Instructions may create a risk of shock or injury. Hold tool by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where the cutting tool may contact hidden wiring. Read operator's manual carefully, Learn its applications and limitations, as well as the specific potential hazards related to this tool. When using an extension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough to carry the current your product will draw. A wire gage size (A.W.G.) of at least 16 is recommended for an extension cord 100 feet or less in length. A cord exceeding 100 feet is not recommended. If in doubt, use the next heavier gage. The smaller the gage number, the heavier the cord. An undersized cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating. Be aware of possible hazards when not using your battery tool or when chang- ing accessories. Under extreme usage or temperature conditions, battery leakage may occur. If liquid comes in contact with your skin, wash immediately with soap and water, then neutralize with lemon juice or vinegar. If liquid gets into your eyes, flush them with clean water for at least 10 minutes, then seek immediate medical attention. Following this rule will reduce the risk of serious personal injury. Other types of batteries may burst causing personal injury and damage. Use of improper extension cord could result in a risk of fire and electric shock. If damaged, have replaced immediately by a qualified serviceman. Incorrect reassembly may result in a risk of electric shock or fire. Turning off controls will not reduce this risk.Refer to them frequently and use them to instruct others who may use this tool. If you loan someone this tool, loan them these instructions also. Following this rule will reduce the risk of electric shock, fire, or serious personal injury. 4 DEFINITIONS A) DANGER: Failure to obey a safety warning will result in serious injury to yourself or to others.http://dongsuhk.com/userfiles/eton-viper-repair-manual.xml Always follow the safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and personal injury. B) WARNING: Failure to obey a safety warning can result in serious injury to yourself or to ethers. C) CAUTION: Failure to obey a safety warning may result in property damage or personal injury to yourself or to others. D) NOTE: Advises you of information or instructions vital to the operation or maintenance of the equipment. 5 Remember that a care- less fraction of a second is sufficient to inflict severe injury. KEYLESS CHUCK Your drill-driver has a keyless chuck that allows you to hand tighten or release drill bit in the chuck jaws. SWITCH To turn your drill-driver ON, depress the switch trigger. Release switch trigger to turn your drill-driver OFF. SWITCH LOCK The switch trigger can be locked in the OFF position. This feature helps reduce the possibility of accidental starting when not in use. VARIABLE SPEED This tool has a variable speed switch that delivers higher speed with increased trigger pressure. Speed is controlled by the amount of switch trigger depression. TWO SPEED GEAR TRAIN Your drill-driver has a two speed gear train designed for drilling or driving at HI or LO speeds. A slide switch is located on top of your drill to select either HI or LO speed. WRIST STRAP A wrist strap is provided to reduce the chances of dropping your drill-driver. Place one hand through the wrist strap when carrying tool. BIT STORAGE When not in use, bits provided with your drill-driver can be placed in the storage area located on the top of the motor housing. Failure to do so could result in possible serious personal injury. Therefore, it must be charged prior to use. Improper assembly can cause damage to drill and battery pack. 9 CHARGING BATTERY PACK The battery pack for this tool has been shipped in a low charge condition to prevent possible problems. Therefore, you should charge it until light on front of charger changes from red to green. Note: Batteries will not reach full charge the first time they are charged. Allow several cycles (drilling followed by recharging) for them to become fully charged. Red light indicates fast charging mode. If red light is flashing, this indicates battery pack is deeply discharged or hot. If battery pack is hot, red light should become steady after battery pack has cooled down. If battery pack is deeply discharged, red light should become steady after voltage has increased, normally within 60 minutes. If after one hour red light is still flashing, this indicates a defective battery pack and should be replaced. Green light on indicates battery pack is fully charged and slow charging to maintain battery pack. Yellow light on and red light flashing indicates defective battery pack. IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR RECHARGING HOT BA'n'ERIES Under extreme continuous use, the batteries in your battery pack will become hot. You should let a hot battery pack cool down for approximately 1 hour before attempt- ing to recharge. When the battery pack becomes dis- charged and is hot, this will cause the red light on your battery charger to flash. When battery pack cools down, red light will glow continuously indicating fast charging mode, 1 hour charge time. Once the battery pack cools down, it will recharge battery pack in fast charging mode as normal. Note; This situation only occurs when extreme continuous use of your drill causes the batteries to become hot. It does not occur under normal circumstances. If the charger does not charge your battery pack under normal circumstances, return both the battery pack and charger to your nearest Sears repair center for electrical check. 10 To turn it OFF, release the switch trigger. Note: You might hear a whistling or ringing noise from the switch during use. Do not be concerned, this is a normal part of the switch function. TWO SPEED GEAR TRAIN See Figure 9. Your drill has a two-speed gear train designed for drilling or driving at LO (1) or HI (2) speeds, A slide switch is located on top of your dritt to setect either LO (1) or HI (2) speed. When using drill in the LO (1) speed range, speed will decrease and unit will have more power and torque. When using drill in the Ht (2) speed range, speed witl increase and unit will have less power and torque. Use LO (1) speed for high power and torque applications and HI (2) speed for fast drilling or driving applications. TWO SPEED LO GEAR TRAIN (HI-LO) SPEED SWITCH LOCK See Figure 10. The switch trigger can be locked in the OFF position. This feature can be used to prevent the possibility of accidental starting when not in use. Therefore, switch should always be locked when not in use or carrying at your side. REVERSIBLE See Figure 10. This tool has the feature of being reversible. The direction of rotation is controlled by a selector located above the switch trigger. With the drill held in normal operating position, the direction of rotation selector should be positioned to the left of the switch for drilling. The drilling direction is reversed when the selector is to the right of the switch. When the selector is in center position, the switch trigger is locked. CAUTION: To prevent gear damage, always allow chuck to come to a complete stop before changing the direction of rotation or the two speed gear train (hi-lo). To stop, release switch trigger and allow the chuck to come to a complete stop. HI SPEED Fig. 9 11 A keyless chuck has been provided with your drill to allow for easy installation and removal of bits. As the name implies, you can hand tighten or release drill bits in the chuck jaws. Arrows on the chuck indicate which direction to rotate the chuck sleeve in order to LOCK (tighten) or UNLOCK (release) the chuck jaws. Loosen the chuck sleeve by rotating it counterclockwise with one hand. Insert drill bit into the chuck the full length of the jaws, tighten securely by rotating the chuck sleeve in clockwise direction. Chuck sleeve could stip in your hand or your hand could slip and come in contact with rotating drill bit. This could cause an accident resulting in serious personal injury. ADJUSTING RING TODECREASE TORQUE TOINCREASE TORQUE Fig. 12 Note: Remember the two-speed feature (HI-LO) when setting torque. The amount of torque will vary depending on which speed setting you have your drill-driver. Switch- ing to LO speed will increase torque. Switching to HI speed will decrease torque. BIT STORAGE See Figure 13. When not in use, bits provided with your drill can be placed in the storage area located on the top of your drill as shown in Figure 13. SCREWDRIVER BIT BIT STORAGE AREA ADJUSTABLE TORQUE CLUTCH Your drill is equipped with an adjustable torque clutch for driving different types of screws into different materials. The proper setting depends on the type of material and the size of screw you are using. It is recessed in the motor housing on top and end of your drill. It can be used to keep drill bits level during most drilling operations. TOP VIEW LEVEL DRILLING See Figure 15. LEVEL END VIEW Fig. 15 When drilling hard smooth surfaces use a center punch to mark desired hole location. This will prevent the drill bit from slipping off center as the hole is started. However, the low speed feature allows starting holes without center punching if desired. To accomplish this, simply operate your drill at a low speed until the hole is started. The material to be drilled should be secured in a vise or with clamps to keep it from turning as the drill bit rotates. Hold tool firmly and place the bit at the point to be drilled. Depress the switch trigger to start tool. Move the drill bit into the workpiece applying only enough pressure to keep the bit cutting. When these situations occur, drill has a tendency to grab and kick opposite to the direction of rotation and could cause loss of control when breaking through material. If not prepared, this loss of control can result in possible serious injury. When drilling metals, use a light oil on the drill bit to keep it from overheating. The oil will prolong the life of the bit and increase the drilling action. If the bit jams in workpiece or if the drill stalls, release switch trigger immediately. Remove the bit from the workpiece and determine the reason for jamming. 13 The chuck must be removed in order to use some accessories. SeeFigure 16. This will loosen the screw in the chuck for easy removal. MALLET CHUCKJAWS KEYLESS WRENCH CHUCK Fig. 16 Open chuck jaws and remove hex key wrench. Remove the chuck screw by turning it in a clockwise direction. See Figure 17. Note: The screw has left hand threads. SCREWDRIVER Fig. 17 Insert hex key wrench in chuck and tighten chuck jaws securely. Tap sharply with a mallet in a counter- clockwise direction. This will loosen chuck on the spindle. It can now be unscrewed by hand. See Figure 18. Fig. 18 TO RETIGHTEN A LOOSE CHUCK The chuck may become loose on spindle and develop a wobble. Also, the chuck screw may become loose caus- ing the chuck jaws to bind and prevent them from closing. Tap hex key wrench sharply with a mallet in a clockwise direction. Note: The chuck screw has left hand threads. 14 Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most plastics are susceptible to damage from various types of commercial solvents and may be damaged by their use. They contain chemicals that can damage, weaken, or destroy plastic. De not abuse power tools. Abusive practices can damage tool as well as workpiece. Only the parts shown on parts list, page 17, are intended to be repaired or replaced by the customer. Any such alteration or modification is misuse and could result in a hazardous condition leading to possible serious personal injury. BATTERIES The battery pack for your drill-driver is equipped with nickel-cadmium rechargeable batteries. Length of service from each charging will depend on the type of work you are doing. The batteries in this tool have been designed to provide maximum trouble free life. However, like all batteries, they will eventually wear out. Do not disassemble battery pack and attempt to replace the batteries. Handling of these batteries, especially when wearing rings and jewelry, could result in a serious burn. To obtain the longest possible battery life, we suggest the following: Store and charge your batteries in a cool area. Temperatures above normal room temperature will shorten battery life. Never store batteries in a discharged condition. Recharge them immediately after they are discharged. All batteries gradually lose their charge. The higher the temperature the quicker they lose their charge. If you store your tool for long periods of time without using it, recharge the batteries every month or two. This practice will prolong battery life. To preserve natural resources, please recycle or dispose of properly. This product contains nickel-cadmium batteries. Local, state or federal laws may prohibit disposal of nickel-cadmium batteries in ordinary trash. BATTERY PACK REMOVAL AND PREPARATION FOR RECYCLING A WARNING: Upon removal, cover the battery pack's terminals with heavy duty adhesive tape. Do not attempt to destroy or disassemble battery pack or remove any of its components. Nickel-cadmium batteries must be recycled or disposed of properly. Keep away from children. OVERLOAD Your drill has a built-in overload protector to protect the motor during overloading or prolonged use. The overload protector automatically activates to break the circuit. When this occurs, allow your drill to cool a few seconds before resuming operation. 15 We recommend Wide Vision Safety Mask for use over eyeglasses or standard safety glasses with side shields, available at Sears Retail Stores.Sears, Roebuck and Co., Dept. 817 WA, Hoffman Estates, IL 60179 SAVETHESEINSTRUCTIONS 16 SEE BACK PAGE FOR PARTS ORDERING INSTRUCTIONS 1 2 1 5 3 4 Key Part No. Model No.Customer. IBoughtThat 5.0 out of 5 stars So far so good. UPDATE: Turned out to be a great gift for a guy who is not a fan of battery operated power tools. He tells me it is now his go to drill for simple, around the house, jobs.I like that it has a spare battery so that one can be quick-charging while you're using the other one. It's disappointing when you need your drill and the battery is almost gone. These batteries even have a little indicator on the back to let you know beforehand how much charge remains. But having the extra battery is worth it. More than once I've grabbed the drill to use for some project and only then realized that I've got a dead or almost-dead battery. So, if you're trying to decide, get the bundle with the extra battery. Craftsman customer service is excellent. I was concerned about this battery because when I used it, I noticed sparks in the back behind the venting fins. There's an LED light in front (which is also handy) but I was concerned that maybe there was a fault in the motor or something. The reason I know this is because Craftsman Customer Support got back with me and assured me that this was the way they are designed and sparks are part of the operation. They won't cause a fire, but I wouldn't use this around places where sparks could cause problems. So just be aware that sparks might happen and it could be dangerous around fuel vapor or anything that might be flammable. The torque is great on this drill. I've used it to drive screws into walls without drilling a pilot hole first. I like that the torque is adjustable. Overall, you can't beat this for quality and value, along with excellent and responsive customer service. No regrets with this purchase.I liked that it included two batteries and seems to charge in less than an hour. Haven’t given it an all day heavy use yet but seems powerfull enough for my use up until now. Not too heavy as my other 20V. The quality seems good. I do find it weird that it does not include a belt clip. It’s an accessory that should be standard. You have to purchase apart and it’s not cheap and rases the overall cost. The LED does not do a good job at illuminating the work area. It’s bright enough but I believe it’s because of where it’s located on the drill. Other makers seem to have resolved this by relocating it ti the bottom of the handle, above the battery. In general, the price is about right.False advertising and inaccurate specs in the description. Other than that, the drill seems great.Works great for around the house use. I know Craftsman's taken a hit in recent years but they seem to be trying to improve their products lately. Definitely recommend.I am using it to drill holes in my flower pots and getting ready to buy more bits so I can use it more around the houseIt doesn't loosen and tighten like other keyless chucks. I'll update if I figure it out. Update, its broken and it arrived that way. It's like the chuck is locked. When I grip the chuck to tighten or loosen, it clicks rapidly while in forward or reverse and it is very tight even without a bit in it.Sorry, we failed to record your vote.
