For example the section on water explains how to locate indigenous water bearing plants, methods that can only be applied in that location of the world. The food section information on local plants is extensive as well as the information on edible game. A high light of the section is the information on parboiling as well as cooking and consumption of rotten meat (Any one familiar with the Selous Scouts selection process is familiar with this technique. During the selection course the scouts were given a baboon to kill but were not allowed to eat or quarter it, it was hung out for all to see, as the days went on the scouts were not allowed to eat, then after a week or so, the scouts were given the rotten carcass to eat, after proper instruction on handling and cooking the rotten meat.). Finally I think the high light of this book is the tracking section which covers animal tracking and human tracking the later being prevalent. This section is as close as one will get to the tracking skills employed by the Rhodesian Security Forces. The section is basically a revamped military program of instruction. I cannot say enough about this section of the book, other then outstanding. The book is heavily illustrated with quality line drawings. The book consists of chapters dealing with survival in general, water, food, shelters, way-finding, tracking, first aid and medical notes, improvised weapons, cordage and knots, dangerous animals, equipment, and home security. Reid-Daly asked various former members of the Rhodesian Special Forces and of the Rhodesian National Parks to aid him with compiling these notes. They are, therefore, practical and fairly comprehensive and probably give a good idea of the syllabus of the Selous Scouts' bushcraft and tracking course. (Other books dealing with the Selous Scouts include Reid-Daly's history of the regiment, titled Croukamp's book has been re-issued with a new title: This is undoubtedly one of the best, alongside Col Grainger's book was based on course notes written by Allan Savory to train soldiers serving with C (Rhodesia) Sqn, SAS. Having said this, there are a few faults that one could find with the book: The first and most obvious is the poor standard of the line drawings; there are no photographs. It is a pity that Ashanti Publishing Ltd., which published the book did not insist on better illustrations. On matters of detail, one could nit-pick with certain things Col. Reid-Daly suggests, such as binding your knife to a stick to make a spear. The descriptions of useful plants and the illustrations are not as clear as they could be and might cause confusion. One specific correction: Col. Reid-Daly says that the creeper Cissus quadrangularis is a source of drinkable fluid.http://change4best.ru/upload/encaderna-o-manual-artistica-passo-a-passo.xml I feel sure, however, that the scientific names were simply mixed up. Despite these minor faults, the book is well worth having and provides a lot of very useful information for anyone travelling to southern Africa, whether as a tourist, hunter, conservationist, missionary, NGO worker, or on an expedition. I would strongly recommend it.In my best estimation 80 or more of all survival is the same the importance of this book is it's specific differences due to being directed to Southern Africa. Mozambique, December 2020.Mozambique, December 2020.Here she describes the chaos and challenges for people trying to survive, having fled extreme violence in the province. They have left everything behind to stay alive. The insurgents attacked their village, burned down their house, took away their meagre possessions. In recent months, it seems the violence and living conditions have worsened. The daily life of the people caught in the crossfire consists of ambushes, assassinations, looting and kidnappings. Some have gone without electricity for months. Administration buildings, schools and health centres have been closed for even longer. A trip to farm your field means risking a bad encounter and perhaps never coming back. These people are simply trying to survive a nightmare that has lasted more than three years. In May, insurgents attacked the health centre in Macomia where MSF worked. Some of our staff were sleeping at home and ran with their families into the bush. Others were working and had to flee without their families and hide. Some of our colleagues remained hidden for days and nights in the bush on the top of a hill, where they watched what was happening in Macomia below, and saw their own homes burning. We were calling all of them every day to get news, but their phones had run out of battery. After several days, we finally received the good news that they all had survived. These people are simply trying to survive a nightmare that has lasted more than three years. It also means undertaking a journey fraught with pitfalls. Most of the people who leave are women and children. Many of them walk for over 200 kilometres, their belongings on their heads, a baby hanging on their back, a little one holding their hand. They are in hiding, fearful of being seen by a group of insurgents or of running into soldiers who may suspect them of being insurgents themselves. Both groups wear the same uniform and are nearly impossible to distinguish between. Others choose to embark on a fishing boat that threatens to sink under the weight of its many passengers at any moment, and which does not protect them from an attack since the insurgents also move by sea, travelling from island to island. On 1 November, Cabo Delgado made international news when 40 people reportedly drowned when an overloaded boat hit rocks and sank between Ibo and Matama islands. Other boats saved 32 of the passengers. Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, December 2020.Cabo Delgado province, Mozambique, December 2020.Cabo Delgado province, Mozambique, December 2020.And that’s why I only left on 27 September; I was looking for my family.” While Jorge’s family is safe, they are not all together, spread out across Cabo Delgado province. Over the last three years, Cabo Delgado has been ravaged by fighting which has forced half a million people to flee their homes and leave their livelihoods behind. Many have lost more than just their belongings in their search for safety.
