Michon 1.0 out of 5 stars Sensor showed 1 degree difference from indoor, but that didn't bother me much as I don't need 100 accuracy. Moved the sensor outside that evening and all was well. I woke up this morning and checked the outdoor temperature and it stated 55 (rather high considering the time and that it had rained overnight). Went outside for my morning run and it was definitely colder than 55. Thought maybe the batteries were an issue so I replaced the batteries in the sensor and brought the sensor indoors and the display still read 55. At that point I realized the light on the sensor wasn't lit. From reading other reviews, this company needs to improve on their quality control as this seems to be a common problem. I do not recommend purchasing this product. Complete waste of money. But the size of the numbers was too small to read from more than about 6 feet away. Especially the clock. That was important to me so I took a chance on this one. All of the digits are bigger and I can read it from about 8 feet which is good enough. I'll be keeping this one and returning the other. If readability wasn't a factor, I recommend the 02003M because of the humidity readout. One thing you will notice is the contrast is better on the 02003M, but it isn't enough to matter. Also the viewing angle isn't as good on this unit if looking from above, as if you were standing and looking down at it on a table. This unit is replacing a LaCrosse model that lasted about 8 years. It was okay but didn't have an atomic clock and pairing with the outdoor sensor was trickier. This one pairs within seconds and it is two floors down and on the other side of the house. Both units report the same outdoor temperature, but the indoor readings differ by 1 degree. I tend to think the 02003M was closer to actual temperature. But the size of the numbers was too small to read from more than about 6 feet away. I tend to think the 02003M was closer to actual temperature.Second, the monochrome display is not good. It's hard to read in low light (granted, a given with most monochrome LCD screens), which is pretty much all the time in our office. There's also too much clutter on the screen; they could safely remove 35 of what's currently there. Third, the outdoor temperature is usually off by a few degrees. That could be due to the location of our sensor, but it's worth mentioning. Honestly, the only thing we can trust when we check the display is that the current indoor temperature is correct. Everything else is hit or miss (or nowhere close), and all in all, my money would have been much better spent on a different product.I bought this thinking that it was battery powered on both ends. However if you want it to light up on the display end you will need to plug it into the wall. Something I had not counted on and this led to some installation issues. What you have is a very nice back lit picture with the numbers being in the LCD that is placed over the top of the picture. I can get by that since it does look quite nice. But the biggest problem is that the LCD numbers are sensitive to line of sight and can almost completely disappear depending on your sight line. We mounted it flat to the wall and the numbers were visible when it was below eye level and disappeared as you moved up the wall. The remote temperature sensor appears to work quite well displaying a strong signal level through four walls and 100 feet of distance. The jury is still out on the Atomic Clock. It does say in the instructions that it may take several hours for the signal to correct the clock. I purposely set the clock five minutes slow so I would know when of if it updated. Batteries - It does not come with batteries, they are AA type. Three are in the display (used to backup the clock) and two are in the remote sensor. Instructions are fairly good and setup is relatively simple. The unit does have a slotted hole in the rear for mounting over a screw head and it also has a fold out stand for sitting on a table top. The AC adaptor must have six feet or so of cable. An update on the Atomic Clock The Atomic Clock function was the only part that did not go smoothly. To understand the issue here you need to know that the signal for setting the clock comes from a single station (four the entire US) located in the middle of Colorado. It is a low frequency signal (60 Khz) but receiving it can be problematic since we have a metal roof on our house and we are located in the Pacific Northwest. Making matters worse was the switch in the rear of the display that allows it to search for the signal was a bit flakey. Finally after repeatedly pressing the switch it began to scan (bars will begin to strobe near the little Antenna icon). It still would not pickup the signal so I waited until after dark when the signal was stronger and repeatedly hit the button until until it began searching for the correct frequency. I moved the display near a window on the side of the house facing the source in Colorado. It took several minutes and then the signal locked on, the time reset and was correct. Once it had locked on to the signal I was able to move the display back to it's original location and it still indicated that it had a strong signal. The reason the unit needed to scan for the correct frequency is that there are other sites in Europe, England, and in other areas that operate on different frequencies. I hope this helps:-)The set up was easy and the atomic clock and weather seemed initially accurate but within days the clock lost the time which was strange because it is controlled after initial setup by the atomic clock. I assumed it was just a weird transient that sometimes happens. I reset it manually and soon after the atomic clock came back on line. Today, a week later, the same thing happened and the clock lost it’s memory. The signal in the lower left corner indicates a strong signal from the atomic clock reception. The unit will be returned to Amazon. The set up was easy and the atomic clock and weather seemed initially accurate but within days the clock lost the time which was strange because it is controlled after initial setup by the atomic clock. The unit will be returned to Amazon. The BIG BUT is it does not run on batteries. The batteries are for back-up only. It has to be plugged in. Not what I got from the description. I'm sure if they made that very clear, no one would buy it. I know I certainly would not have purchased it. Love it! I had wanted an instrument that also showed humidity levels, but all the ones I looked at had displays that were ridiculously hard to read, so I abandoned that feature. I want to revise my earlier comments and rating based on the OUTSTANDING support I received from Jennifer in AcuRite's customer service group. She got right on top of the situation and most impressive since this wasn't an expensive item. From Jennifer's first contact with me, it was obvious that she was taking this issue seriously and that the company valued my business. She helped me try a few different approaches to see if the problem could be resolved. When it was apparent that I would have to send it in for an analysis, she took the extra step by agreeing to replace the unit to save time and I didn't even have to ask. I am now a true fan of AcuRite as I know they stand behind their products and have a support person like Jennifer. I recently purchased AcuRite's My Backyard Weather Slate Finish Clock since I know they value me as a customer. I wrote a very unfavorable review on it and figured that was it. The company actually called me and I told them that I did not have proof of purchase because of it being a gift. They had me pack it up and send it to them anyway. They kept me updated on the process of checking the unit out and ended up sending me a new unit. The new unit has worked flawlessly and has been very conservative with battery usage. It is so refreshing to have a company that still cares about their customers and their products. I ordered one from the site and received it, but could not get the outdoor temp to display. After much frustration and threats I called your customer service. I had a very nice polite gentleman (sorry forgot his name) but he understood my problem. He walked me through the steps again - told me to wait until the outdoor sensor flashed 3 times and the put my batteries into the unit. WaaLaa it worked. He stayed on the line until I checked to be sure it would stay connected when the unit was placed outside. I really appreciate your company for having a great product and a great support staff.
