Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness. The materials were organized in a really clear layout. The math is easy but there is no loss in rigor. The explanations are concise but enlightening enough. I strongly recommend this book and im only not rating it with 5 stars because of the lack of some mathematical proofs. But then again, for an introductory course is perfect, even for the not mathematicaly gifted. There is also a useful appendix about statistics and mathematics. Obviously, in order to understand the arguments of econometrics you should have some basis of statistics and maths.I would recommend it to any one who is taking the same corse as mi. Thank. Solutions by Introductory Econometrics (with Economic Applications and InfoTrac 2-Semester Printed Access Card and Premium Web Site for Student Solutions Manual Printed Access Card) (5th Edition) Edit edition This problem has been solved: Solutions for Chapter 7 Problem 12CE: Use the data set in BEAUTY.RAW, which contains a subset of the variables (but more usable observations than in the regressions) reported by Hamermesh and Biddle (1994). (i) Find the separate fractions of men and women that are classified as having above average looks. Are more people rated as having above average or below average looks? (ii) Test the null hypothesis that the population fractions of above-average-looking women and men are the same. Report the one-sided p-value that the fraction is higher for women. (Hint: Estimating a simple linear probability model is easiest.) (iii) Now estimate the model separately for men and women, and report the results in the usual form. In both cases, interpret the coefficient on belavg. Explain in words what the hypothesis H0: against H1: means, and find the p-values for men and women. (iv) Is there convincing evidence that women with above average looks earn more than women with average looks? Explain. (v) For both men and women, add the explanatory variables educ, exper, exper2, union, goodhlth, black, married, south, bigcity, smllcity, and service. Do the effects of the “looks” variables change in important ways? (vi) Use the SSR form of the Chow F statistic to test whether the slopes of the regression functions in part (v) differ across men and women. The text's unique approach reflects the fact that undergraduate econometrics has moved beyond just a set of abstract tools to being genuinely useful for answering questions in business, policy evaluation, and forecasting environments. The systematic approach, which reduces clutter by introducing assumptions only as they are needed, makes absorbing the material easier and leads to better econometric practices. Its unique organization separates topics by the kinds of data being analyzed, leading to an appreciation for the important issues that arise in drawing conclusions from the different kinds of data economists use. Packed with relevant applications, INTRODUCTORY ECONOMETRICS offers a wealth of interesting data sets that can be used to reproduce the examples in the text or as the starting point for original research projects. I didn't have to utilize it for much during the course, but a person with basic statistical knowledge could definitely utilize this book for self-study. It isn't quite as rigorous or technical as it could be, but I think that's its benefit. It's totally readable and approachable. I was very happy my professor recommended this book, as a few other econometrics texts I've thumbed through are quite dull. Econometrics is a wildly interesting subject, so it's great to have a book that compliments that.I use the appendices quite frequently.Seems to me that the book is not for just skimming through. The book is precise and comprehensive and I would say flawless. I hope, when I am done reading it, I will keep it as my core econometrics reference. I really appreciate the fact that it isn't technical at all. Content coverage is also quite good. Only issue is that it costs a lot for merely a book!!Not a bad read, though. You just need patience.
