Si los ocupantes no se abrochan los cinturones de seguridad, se inclinan hacia adelante durante la marcha o no van sentados correctamente y se produce un accidente, se exponen a un mayor riesgo de resultar heridos si el sistema de airbags se dispara. En los bolsillos de las prendas de vestir colgadas no se deben encontrar objetos puntiagudos o pesados. No se deben exponer los laterales de los respaldos a grandes fuerzas como, p. ej., golpes fuertes o pisotones ya que de lo contrario el sistema puede resultar deteriorado. De lo contrario, puede producirse un fallo en el funcionamiento de los airbags. Para no mermar el correcto funcionamiento de los airbags laterales y de cabeza no se deben modificar ni las puertas ni los paneles de puerta (p.ej. montando posteriormente unos altavoces). De lo contrario, se corre el peligro de que los airbags no se disparen del modo correcto en caso de accidente o no se disparen en absoluto. Al hacerlo, el airbag para la cabeza cubre las ventanillas y el montante de la puerta. Todos los trabajos sobre la puerta anterior se deben realizar en un taller especializado. Advierta de ello a todos los pasajeros. Pare con regularidad para descansar siempre que haga un viaje de largo recorrido.
