After initial research in commutative algebra, she became interested in cognitive issues associated with teaching analytical thinking and proof and published a number of articles related to this topic, one of which was chosen for inclusion in The Best Writing on Mathematics 2012. She has spoken widely on discrete mathematics and organized sessions at national meetings on discrete mathematics instruction. In addition to Discrete Mathematics with Applications and Discrete Mathematics: An Introduction to Mathematical Reasoning, she is co-author of Precalculus and Discrete Mathematics, which was developed as part of the University of Chicago School Mathematics Project. The third edition of Discrete Mathematics with Applications received a Texty Award for Textbook Excellence in June 2005. Epp co-organized an international symposium on teaching logical reasoning, sponsored by the Institute for Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science (DIMACS), and she was an associate editor of Mathematics Magazine from 1991 to 2001. Long active in the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), she is a co-author of the curricular guidelines for undergraduate mathematics programs: CUPM Curriculum Guide 2004. Hall 3.0 out of 5 stars Cons: The answers in this book are only for the problems that are (a) multiples of three, and (b) not already published in the back of the textbook. For example: in chapter four, section 2, the multiple-of-three rule means that the answers for problems 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, etc. However, the answers for problems 3, 6, 21, 24, and 27 are printed in the back of the textbook.http://danchrisjewelry.com/userfiles/download-rexroth-training-manual.xml This means that for the first 30 problems, the guide only has answers for problems 9, 12, 15, 18, and 30. The constant flipping back and forth gets annoying fast (for me). Also, the rules mean that you never know exactly which answers are in the guide (since the textbook publishes answers in the back at random).I will say that it is pretty helpful though. Most math textbooks cover all the odd answers in the back of the textbook. For some reason the Discrete Math textbook that goes along with this solutions manual likes to jump around. It will start out doing some odds, then an even, then none. Having a solutions manual helps a lot. When you open it, you won't be happy with the amount of knowledge within. Instead of feeling relieved that you've bought a solution manual that can help you solve problems, you will instead wish you had your money back. Very few questions are covered. The questions that are answered in this book aren't answered very well. Rosen's 'Discrete Mathematics and Its Applications' is not only a better textbook, but the answers contained within its solutions manual are actually useful. If you are using this book for self-study, do yourself a favor and pick up the Rosen book instead.Basically I shouldnt have bought this book.Amazon is not legally responsible for the accuracy of the tags represented. I brought this up to my professor who then looked into it further. He has officially recommended to the department that we no longer carry or suggest purchase of the solutions manual. He and some graduate students are currently reviewing the solutions in the back of the text book for accuracy. Depending on their findings the university will likely switch to another discrete math book. In short, don't buy this book. The selection of problems in here seems pretty random. On the one hand, it was good and forced me to work more since I didn't have the fall back of checking the answer. Usually when really stuck I'd look for similar problems to see what methods were used there, but often the problems have such a huge range that no two are even that similar. I got this because my college class recommended it, and I used it on a lot of chapters, but as to how much it actually helped I don't know. If you're a math wiz you probably can get by without this, but discrete is a deceptively tough subject so you want to think carefully about taking that chance. I aced my final and course, many failed, so anything helpful is worth while if you want to drop the money for it. As a result, there is a lot less content than what one would normally expect. The solutions manually usually does a pretty good job of explaining how they got their answer but I found this less useful than solutions manuals I have used for other classesAfter that in later chapters the answers become cryptic instead of straight forward. As far as the seller, I have 5 stars for the seller. I was glad to have what little assistance this guide gave. Do you want a used item only. Maybe you want to buy it directly from a store and not Joe Schmoe in his dorm room (no 3rd party), or maybe you don't even care that the book fell out of an airplane, was run over by a car, and fell in a fishtank, you just want the absolute lowest price (cheapest used or new). The Uber-BOT will then go back and calculate the lowest possible total price, taking the new shipping costs into consideration.
