I usually add around 3 - 3.2 liters of oil when changing with filter replacement, around three dcl less without filter replacement. Use semishyntetic oil, i use ester blend Motul 15W-50. AnteK My 96 XTZ (twin headlight 4MY) takes over 4 litres when I do a full filter and oil change.Don't forget that you cannot measure the oil level unless you have been riding for at least 15-20 kilometers. Then I take it for a ride about 10km and bring it home and check the levels again. Every time I chnge the oil I also do the filter and take the lower pipe off that connects to the bottom of the engine to ensure it is completely emptied.How could Yamaha devise such a bloody complex system of checking the oil level. It should be so simple!!!!!! Sorry just a gripe no help offered. Cheers Dave.I guess that's because it all goes into the sump, or more than is supposed to anyway (I don't know why - anybody know?). It would be ok to leave it like that but because nothing shows on the dipstick you won't know if the oil level starts to drop. So I keep filing until it comes up to the Max on the dipstick, this takes slightly less than 4Lts in total, and I leave it at that.
