With each of these I tried cleaning the pilot, but it has a very tiny hole and it's easy to wreck the opening, then I would put it all back together and it would still not idle. So now I just buy a new pilot jet when it happens. Check on youtube for a video. It's easy to do. After the return, it will reach your new setting and you continue from there.
