Even to this day, the youtube videos and online DIY forums and blogs still barely scrape the surface. I've been using these for years for DIY repair and maintenance. Sad.Had purchased two others for my last two vehicles. I am a woman who does her own oil changes, filter changes, and keeps up all fluid levels. This book helps me get to know the new vehicle and where things are located under the hood, not to do major repairs, however. I like the trouble shooting section in that problems are very clearly explained and this is helpful when I have approached my mechanic with an issue. I believe the trouble shooting section provides owners with a better understand their vehicle. Best of all in the 2010 Explorer issue there is an extensive list of Diagnostic Trouble Codes that determine what is wrong with your auto. It is explained that you can purchase your own hand-held scan tool so that you can find the problem yourself. For those that enjoy knowing about their vehicles beyond just driving them, this is a nice addition to the owners' manual provided by the dealer.No shortcuts or tips to help either. I found YouTube to be more useful.That far more than justifies the cost of buying this book.Try Chiltons instead. I wasted my money on this. Doing one job entails going through almost whole book. Both had the same text and the same pictures and the only advice was how to remove the seat. They are identical down to the picture identification numbers. The Chilton guide is perhaps laid out a bit better and some pictures are easier to view. Both these guides are printed on cheap newsprint-type paper and all the illustrations are in fuzzy black and white. They are both a huge disappointment. When loosening the bolts, hold the pulley with a strap or chain wrench to prevent it from turning. V6 MODELS Remove the bolts attaching the water pump to the engine block and remove the pump from the engine (see illustration). If the water pump is stuck, gently tap it with a soft-faced hammer to break the seal. Clean the bolt threads and the threaded holes in the engine and remove the corrosion and sealant. Remove all traces of old gasket material from the sealing surfaces. V8 MODELS Clean the O-ring surfaces on the pump and the housing (see illustration). If you're installing the old pump, install a new O-ring (see illustration). Clean the bolt threads and the threaded holes in the engine and remove the corrosion and debris. Remove the front drive shaft and the rear drive shaft from the transfer case (see Chapter 8). Always remove the drive shaft from the transfer case first to prevent the boot from tearing in the event the driveshaft drops to a lower angle. Remove the skidplate, if equipped. Drain the transfer case fluid if the transfer case will be repaired (see Chapter 1). On A4WD models, disconnect the electronic shift motor connector (see Section 3). Disconnect the vent hose. Place a floor jack under the transmission. Place a wood block between the jack head and the transmission to protect the case. Place a transmission jack under the transfer case and secure the transfer case to the jack with safety chains or straps. I ordered the book to help with an electrical problem.
