Kidde Carbon Monoxide Detector Manual Alarm Kn Cob Lcb A.0 out of 5 stars It has its own distinct sound pattern to differentiate it from the sound the smoke alarms make. However, this CO alarm is apparently designed so that it will not also sound the interconnected smoke alarms, which would mean if you only had one of these CO alarms installed in a remote location of your home, like a basement, it may not be able to alert people in other areas of the building when it activates. So, the ideal solution would be to have one of these interconnected CO alarms on each floor in addition to smoke alarms. The alarm has a built in end of life notification feature that alerts you when it needs replacement with two chirps every 30-seconds. The Amazon product description above says this occurs after seven years of operation, but the actual User's Guide that came with it says ten years, so not sure which is correct. Overall, this CO alarm seems decently made and was fairly reasonably priced. Of course I hope to never actually have it activate from high CO levels in our home, but it's good to know it is there just in case. Update: According to Kidde's website, the KN-COB-IC carbon monoxide alarms manufactured as of 2013 now have a 10-year end of life cycle, not 7-years as indicated in the product description above. Please try again later. Please try again later.I like that they are modern looking and low profile. However, upon installation, both alarms were beeping to indicate that they needed new batteries. When I opened the battery door, they both had old, heavily corroded batteries. Please try again later. Please try again later. This Kidde model was an upgrade from the originals in the house: better functionality of LED warning lights, different sound than the smoke detectors, and prettier too. On first install, these beeped one or two extra times after inserting the battery (charging the capacitor?); no issues after that. The hardest thing about the install was hauling a giant ladder around. My one star off is because the battery is on the underside of the unit---only accessible by popping it off the ceiling: although it's easy enough to do with a little twist, I always prefer a battery compartment I can get to from the front face. Please try again later. Please try again later.I lucked out and purchased the correct make and model. Success! Simple, twist off and unplug the old; plug in and twist on the new. Can't ask for better. I also bought two additional for the future end-of-life cycle replacement in about six or seven years. Please try again later. Please try again later. Bic 5.0 out of 5 stars Works well with the old alarms still wired together. Will be replacing the slow acting fire alarms with CO monitors a few at a time. It was smokey business. I took a break and opened the door to the hallway and closed it behind me. This alarm in the hallway had to be silenced as it picked up the smoke. All of the alarms in the house went off like they should. Very impressed! Please try again later. Please try again later. No changes in the product. Best of all I didn't have to run around looking for the same model to replace. Instructions were easy to follow and I didn't need an electrician to re-connect the alarm. My old alarm was connected 10 yrs. ago. The quality proved itself. Ding, ding Kidde you're a winner. Please try again later. Please try again later. Plain Jane 5.0 out of 5 stars Took a few minutes per unit - easy. A family member had a similar one acting strange so they called the 800 number on the back of the unit and Kidde shipped them a new one no questions asked. That is why I stuck with Kidde - that is great customer service. BTW, new ones say they are good for 10 years. Really old ones were 5 years, then they switched to 7 years, now they are 10 years. I didn't know exactly what my old ones were so I just replaced everything. Please try again later. Please try again later. Frank W. 1.
