My original remote is dead.When connected to speakers and receiver, music is playing, and the subwoofer is working, but it has a loud humming sound. I have a pair of Boston Acoustics Voyager 6 outdoor speakers. They are located under an eave so do not get a lot of snow or rain on them, but are uncovered over the winter. On certain movies I have a Boston Acoustic VR 2000 sub woofer. On certain movies I get a loud poppoing sound when the scene volume cranks up. We checked the ground and hooked into another stereo system with the same result. The sound is good quality but missing lower ranges of music. The CD player does not work any more. It was sent in for service at Bose in 2007 for the exact same problem. Do I need to replace the speaker or can it be repaired.What do you recommend. If you can handle AC mains voltage stuff you need to probe in the power supply circuit from the input to the transformer and then from there to the diodes. If I had to guess, you have a bad capacitor which failed short across the rectifying diodes. I can't find a service manual for you device, sorry. If you take pictures of the top and bottom of the board it might be possible to do a basic schematic. Linear power supplies are pretty much boilerplate in this kind of situation. Also should I turn the subs crossover control knob all the way clockwise (100hz is the max) or also turn it to the same corssover point that's set in the amp.I appreciate the help! Since your sub only goes to 100hz I would drop the rears to 100hz as a maximum. Adjust and see how it sounds. Also speaker responses and crossovers are not hard cut offs but a gradual roll off.
