Gain-Poti ist ziemlich kurios, da es uber den Gro?teil seines Regelwegs vollkommen wirkungslos ist: Im ersten und im letzten Drittel hebt sich die Zerrung etwas, aber zwischen 9 und 15 Uhr passiert tatsachlich nichts. Umso effektiver arbeitet die sinnvoll gewahlte Klangregelung, die aktiv ausgelegt ist und eigentlich fur die damalige Zeit ein wirkliches Novum darstellt. Hier liegen zwei Frequenzen an, die jeweils um 20 dB geboostet oder gecuttet werden konnen. Laut Manual sind diese bei 100 Hz und 1 kHz angesiedelt, und auch wenn man diesen Angaben nicht immer zwingend Glauben schenken kann, sind die Frequenzen doch so gewahlt, dass die Basse an der Resonanz der tiefen E-Saite ansetzen und gleichzeitig undefinierte Tiefmitten etwas ausgedunnt werden.Diese waren in der Anfangszeit als 12V-Adapter ausgelegt, eine Spannung, die im Pedal mithilfe einer Diode und eines Widerstandes auf 9 Volt abgesenkt wurde. Das Ergebnis: Wenn der HM-2 mit Batterie betrieben wird, lauft alles rund, kommt jedoch ein handelsubliches 9V-Netzteil zum Einsatz, flackert die rote Betriebs-LED sehr schwach und das Klangverhalten verandert sich. Zum einen kann man auf Batteriebetrieb umsteigen, oder aber das alte, passende Netzteil auftreiben, was nicht immer sehr leicht fallen durfte. Zum anderen lassen sich die Pedale auch so modifizieren, dass Standardadapter eingesetzt werden konnen, was jedoch mit Lotarbeiten verbunden ist und moglicherweise den Sammlerwert schmalert. Die einfachste Alternative ist der Einsatz von Daisy Chains oder Netzverteilern mit gemeinsamen Massen, denn hangt am Verteiler ein weiteres Pedal, das sich mit dem HM-2 die gleiche Masse teilt, wird die Voltreduzierung umgangen. Uber sein Setting ist wenig bekannt, auf Bildern sieht man jedoch die Regler um die 12-Stellung, wobei lediglich das Distortion-Poti im unteren Viertel platziert ist. I have tested the pedals with multiple amps: Mesa Triple Rec (tubes), Randall Cyclone (solid state), and a Crate BV300h (tubes, based on Ampeg SVT bass amp). All three amps reacted similarly to the 3 pedals, with different tones but similar results therefore I will not talk about the difference between the amps but rather what I've found out about the pedals. I tried them for Death Metal tones as a preamp (which means into the clean channel of the amp), and as a boost (into an already heavily distorted channel). It's thicker than the HM-2 and MT-2 but could get lost in the mix since the mid voicing is set a bit lower - It has TONS more gain and low end on tap than the HM-2 and barely ANY noise. I'm a gain addict and usually like super saturated tones but this pedal has enough gain even at halfway setting. You just need to put the Level high enough, the Bass high enough, roll down the Treble (and adjust it higher on your amp), and put the Distortion level at 12 o'clock to 2 o'clock (not more). - I love the HM-3 so much as a preamp that I don't even want to try it as a boost, but if you want a tighter tone you can put the MT-2 in front of the HM-3 but as a boost, and I promise you'll be impressed (see picture above) Honestly, the HM-3 is rarely spoken of and I think a lot of people confuse it with the HM-2 but trust me the HM-3 has less buzzsaw mids but loads and loads more of sheer heaviness. Take note, the one that can do the Obituary thing the best would be the HM-3 Hyper Metal, it's fat and heavy through a good bassy amp. The MT-2 is the Metal Zone, that one though is mostly used as a boost for an American death metal tone like Cannibal Corpse do.I'm not used to anyone reviewing it properly I wanna get a DOD Thrashmaster.
