Right now, I'd like it if someone could sell me a Kawai R-100 (a far cry from the 909, I know), because of my equal love of Wax Trax records, but so far most ones that appear on the 'bay are from US sellers who refuse to ship to Canada. I guess I'll just have to learn patience. It seems as though there might be different versions (or units with different sound banks) floating out there for the R-100.?I'll write about it here once I receive it and use it for a while. It has a good reputation though.Probably best to avoid that.;-) It's a CR2032 lithium battery.I guess I'll just have to learn patience. The CP-2 chip is the source of the gritty bass, timpani, electronic toms, and processed snares. The 808 kits are better, but still a bit flat. Quite honestly, if using hardware isn't a priority, look into the D16 Drumazon.Back in '92 I was going to parties in the Brooklyn underground techno scene and decided to get into producing. Having nothing but a Juno 106 (a nice start) I had to start purchasing gear.https://www.interactivelearnings.com/forum/selenium-using-c/topic/16722/boss-br-600-digital-multitrack-recorder-manual My first acquisition was a Boss DR-550 with the thought that I didn't need a real 909 because the 550 had a 909 kit. I went home and laid down quite a few 909 patterns to show off to my DJ friends. That Friday night we got together and after tossing back a few, my friends powered up the turntables and started to spin. I got out my DR-550 and was all ready to impress everybody with my new secret weapon. In the middle of my bud's set, he mixed in my DR-550 pattern. I never felt so humiliated. Next to the records' throbbing, ear-bleeding, 909 kicks being spewed forth from the PA system my little 550 sounded like a pathetic wounded animal limping to its death. As the slider mixed the record of the BOW. BOW! BOW! BOW! into the DR-550 going put put put put I was horrified. Needless to say the next day I took the 550 back to the music store and hunted down the genuine article. I was a typical poor 18 yr old and the 909 seemed like a fortune (much cheaper than now) but man, it was worth it. My next encounter with my DJ friends after the 909 acquisition went much differently.Personally, I wouldn't wast time with the 660 for a 909 emulation.Back in '92 I was going to parties in the Brooklyn underground techno scene and decided to get into producing. My next encounter with my DJ friends after the 909 acquisition went much differently.Personally, I wouldn't wast time with the 660 for a 909 emulation. Although I've upgraded and obtained more gear over the years, and I still have it and use the DR660 today along with my other gear. I have to agree with the 909 kick though, which is the same as the one in the DR550. The 909 kick in the 660 is pretty darn weak. I believe it's the attack that makes it sound more like a thud. The R-70 has the same 909 kick sample as the DR660. It is basically an attack envelope that allows you to smooth out the attack of the drum sounds. When it's set to maximum, it really minimizes the weak clicky attack.http://cornerwebstudio.com/images/bush-freesat-sd-manual.pdf It's amazing what one extra parameter will do for a drum sample.Although I've upgraded and obtained more gear over the years, and I still have it and use the DR660 today along with my other gear. It's amazing what one extra parameter will do for a drum sample. They have some really nice kits. However, I'd personally not recommend one for 909 emulation. I wanted the 909 kick in all it's permutations, being able to control the tune, attack and decay settings. I eventually installed the pitch and drive mods on mine too ala the Fraser mods. I can definitely understand how controlling the attack on that sample can vastly improve its response. Great tip! However, you'd still not be able to lengthen it's decay for more sustained kicks which may or may not be important for someone's productions. I'd definitely recommend the D16 for ITB productions. Yes it has the modern crispy sound but I think that's what they were going for, not necessarily trying to satisfy the oldschool aficionado market. Personally, I learned a long time ago that if I want a sound, I go to the source. It sucks having to shell out ridiculous prices for the genuine article for equipment like the 909, 303, Pro One, etc.I'm never satisfied with emulations and I think it probably has more to do with my OCD than with the quality of the emulations themselves. I think the only emulation I thought was as good as the original is the x0xb0x and they even vary, depending on the components used. I'm a bedroom producer who's into oldschool lo fi techno from producers like Joey Beltram, Adam X, etc. I even still like the infamous 'mantasm riff' (hoover), so there you go.Memorials, RIPs and Obituaries Grove Park, Maidenhead, Berkshire SL6 3LW.Hosted by Nimbus Hosting. They've freed up songwriters and demo-makers from having to figure out how to mic and record drums with limited tracks, space and budget. And with the advent of the DR660, the Boss drum machine sounded so good that it wasn't thought of as just demo material anymore. Now, finally, we have the successor to that great machine, the DR770. Obviously, expectations are pretty high. Does the 770 live up to its name? You bet. It's got all the popular features from the DR660 model, as well as some great new enhancements. The DR770 is Boss's finest compact rhythm machine to date.Amazon calculates a product’s star ratings based on a machine learned model instead of a raw data average. The model takes into account factors including the age of a rating, whether the ratings are from verified purchasers, and factors that establish reviewer trustworthiness. Please try again later. J. Stewart 4.0 out of 5 stars BUT TAKE NOTE: The DR-770 has a design flaw in that the DEFAULT pedal setting DOES NOT RESTART AT THE TOP OF THE MEASURE. There is a setting that lets you start at the beginning of the beat when you use the pedal but it is a bit tricky to figure out if you are not familiar with the pedal. It took me years to discover this very ridiculous design flaw. But there you go. Try it. It will work. Other than that crazy design flaw the pedal is quite good for a working drum machine. Great sounds and quick access to beats on the fly. Something went wrong. View cart for details. Tired of downloading the same vague schematics from yet another website, the copy that is copied ad infinitum on the web. Or did you buy a CD on eBay, full of the same rubbish. Time is money, and especially so for technicians. Time that should be dedicated to repair and not wasted with the frustrations of searching for a decent service manual. So here is a site with only high quality, high resolution service manuals, most of them carefully cleaned, restored and sometimes partially re-drawn. Here you will find no unreadable drawings or manuals with crucial pages missing. Here you get what you need for the job and get on with it. Free downloads instead of paying silly money for an email with attachment. Of course hi-res means large files. They can be up to 8 times the size of a lo-res scan. That means they need much more server space, space that has to be rented at costs that will come back every year. And many of the manuals you will find here had to be bought as hard copy originals from the manufacturers before they could be scanned at all. Most of this is funded privately, but there is a limit to this budget. Yes, you got it. donations. When this service is useful to you, and you not only want it to continue but to expand as well, that's the way. Contributions received will immediately result in more server space, giving room for more service docs. Donations will also open the way for later additions, such as synth chip data- sheets, synthesizer spec sheets, etc. Your donation will help to make this site a database for synth technicians as never before available on the world wide web. ENJOY! Needs replacing). To start viewing messages,Now have purchased a Yamaha USB-Midi Interface UX16 and after installing the driver, looks to be connected fine. Now the question. How can I playback midi files from the PC through the DR 660. I do not even know how this all works. So far I have tried several midi software which do show the device is connected properly. However,I do not know the terms as I am new to midi interfacing. So far I have MIDI-OX installed and ready to install CUBASE LE 6 just because I have them. Hope this makes sense, any help would be appreciated. JimmyZIt doesn't accept anything through it's midi in except midi clock. It would need to accept midi note numbers for it to be used that way, and it does not. In other words, what you're willing to get dirty and hungry for doesn't exist. You could use it's midi clock capabilities to sync it with Cubase LE 6, but then you'd either need to use either the preset patterns or, as a guitarist, get some rudimentary drum programming skills. If I was you, I'd sit with the machine for an hour and see how far you get. Start with a blank one or two bar pattern, make sure the metronome is enabled and start with the kick drum.Guess what? It plays the drum patterns exactly like the original tune through the DR 660 connected to my stereo. Been waiting 20 years for this as to avoid the lame manual beat programming.or worse yet.dealing with real drummers who never seem to TRY. It works great now after a trip to the House of Guitars and asking the guru in the shop. Now to get the bass tracks functioning and start jammin some guitar.Your DR-660 DOES accept midi note numbers. That's one to file away in the 'never make THAT mistake again' folder. I'm a guitar player too and my 'lame manual beat programming' skills are not lame at all. In fact, I've been at it for 30 years and if I wanted to I could program a part that an expert drummer couldn't tell was machine-generated. Kudos to you though for not giving up and seeking a second opinion. I know a lot about midi, but obviously not as much as I think I do!It works great for what it is and since I have no patience programming drums into the unit, the easy way is good enough for me and now enjoy playing guitar to some tunes I have liked over the years. For whatever reason,it has renewed my dwindling passion of guitar playing. Now I have another question.since the DR 660 also has bass, wondering now if the bass tracks can also playback with the drums.that would make things even better. Many midi song files have bass tracks. So far using the pad bank button,I can hear the bass tracks, but the samples are not bass.It seems it plays other percussion samples and can not seem to assign the pads to the bass samples. You seem to have this sort of stuff down to a science.maybe you know a solution. Also notice the drum kits change every time I restart the same song. Hope this makes sense. There is an easy way to do this - according to the DR-660 manual, the machine sends out program changes. First make sure the midi out of the DR-660 is hooked up. Put Cubase in record for a bar or so, select the kit you want on the front panel and press enter if needed. Now take Cubase out of record and play your midi drum track back. As far as bass lines, that would require your DR-660 to 'listen' on 2 separate midi channels. This is because individual drum hits use midi notes as triggers, while bass lines use midi notes melodically. I don't think the DR-660 is that advanced midi-wise, but I've been wrong before. Thanks for the info regarding bass and drum tracks played together from midi files. It would have been great if it was capable to do so.Suppose I could be elaborate and run things through the 4 track and create my own.but too much like work for what I want it for.I play guitar for fun not work. It is called Sekaiju and is a free software and very easy to use.So that is it for me and does more than I expected as far as what I need here.Hope at least this info will help others looking for some basic midi file playback options using the DR 660.
