Feature 1 - The All Important Blades There are no powered blades that spin quickly on this type of mower. On most electric rotary motors a single blade spins at a very fast speed to do the cutting. With this type of mower, horizontally mounted cylinder of blades cut against a fixed bottom blade for a scissor-like cut. That is why they have to be very sharp to prevent the grass from being ripped or torn from the ground. That is why these types of mowers work better on lawns that have short grass and are regularly mowed. Likewise this type of blade works better on dry grass rather than wet grass. This one has a cutting width of 38 cms which is about 15 inches so quite a wide cutting area. You can also adjust the height of the cut from between 14 -43 mm (half an inch to just over one and a half inches) The blades are made from metal and they are coated so they will not rust. At some stage they may need sharpened, but not for many years. Sharpening these blades is not an easy thing to do, and most people will prefer to replace the blades. Feature 2 - The Mower Itself The mower seems to be well enough made and pretty basic to put together. It is light weighing only 7 Kg (15 lbs) and the high geared wheels make this one easy to push. The wheels are also large and it is these wheels, along with a rear roller that creates the stripes on your lawn. The mower has a 25 litre capacity grass collection box.
