Tourand 5.0 out of 5 stars Hey, I'm just an average computer user. Also, I have friends that use them at home and work - all without a single hitch so far. Not a single problem from all of them, and they all still work like new. I feel that you can't go wrong if you want a little workhorse Laser printer, and are tired of the low quality and high cost of inkjet printers. I Recommend this one highly. I'm not sure if the 1 star stuff about 20,000 pages is factual. I've been way past that a long time ago, and after checking with my friends, they say they believe they are past 20k pages on their printers at work too. So, in my opinion, and personally with over 22 months(and counting) of direct experience with the Dell 1320c; - I'll take the 1 star 20k page limit stuff with a grain of salt. Folks, unless you print a heck of a lot of envelopes - don't let that 20,000 page stuff put you off a great printer. Try and find a friend that is using one of these printers at home or at work and see for yourself. As for me,.I already know it's durable. Update: June 20, 2014; This printer is still going strong after 5 years of domestic use with many 1,000's of pages used. I've replaced the toner cartridges 5 times for the colors, and 7 times for the black toner. I've been using the LD Laser Toner Cartridges (brand) with great results, - which I always buy here at Amazon for a good price. Great little laser printer. No problems to date. The sheet feeder is rocking along smoothly, image quality excellent, etc. - overall it's working great. It is what it is - a basic color laser print. Not a lot of fancy stuff to get in the way or broke. Just sits there all quiet and asleep until it is called into action. Whines a wee-bit when printing but still quieter than my ink-jets. Comes with the Mac driver disk so once that is loaded you just need to ID it in your printer preferences (Google for mac setup how-to), point to the installed driver and BOOM, there it is. Setting it up on a network is even easier (yes, it is networkable!! SWEET!), just connect it (sorry, wired only, not wireless) and restart; hold down the print button for a couple of secs, look on the config page that is printed, find the assigned IP, set it up using LPD and away you go. Windows 7 is even easier!! I've had a Lexmark e310 for about 6 years and sadly, it finally started to die (paper pickup mechanism). Unless of course you enjoy get your blood sucked out of you on a daily basis - through your wallet. I keep tabs on toner level in the web-based management console and so far it still shows all of the cartridges are still full. Color output is noticeably weaker in draft mode but definitely passable. A quick switch to HQ mode and the color output POPs!!! We have Dell printers at work and they seem to hold up real nice under moderate to heavy work loads so I am optimistic for this baby. That led me to the Dell 1320c. Am I ever glad that this is the printer I bought. Let me tell you, it's hands down the best personal-use printer I have ever owned. The color print quality is as good as anything you'll find--at least as good as your neighborhood Kinko's, maybe better. The cartridge capacity is pretty good, but this isn't a printer designed for spitting out thousands of pages a day. However, for a personal or home office use, it's going to be hard to beat a printer that does all this, rarely breaks down, and almost never has any hardware glitches that plague some cheaper models. It's only real drawback is its size: at more than a foot in each dimension, it doesn't do well ask a desk printer. So, in summary, if you need a printer that's quite a bang for just a few bucks, the 1320c may be just what you're looking for.It was black grease on the bottom of printer; plus it was defected. It was suppose to have been a refurbished dell printer that have been tested and in new condition. The quality of print is very impressive, very please with product. Though not without its faults, the print quality is sufficient for most business uses. The Oki's print quality is a bit better than the Dell's, too.The dark gray printer sits 15.6 inches wide, 16.6 inches deep, and 14.8 inches tall, and weighs a bit less than 40 pounds. The control panel is limited to two buttons (cancel and continue) and a graphic representation of the printer with LEDs that light up to indicate where a problem is occurring. For example, the paper tray area icon lights up when the tray is open, and the four toner icons light up if toner is running low--useful since the printer lacks a text LCD. The input capacity is not expandable on this model. The top-mounted output bin holds up to 150 sheets. The cartridges for this unit are small and lightweight. Pulling them out, however, causes toner to dust your desktop--you've been forewarned. Each cartridge comes in two capacities: 1,000 prints and 2,000 prints. Using the larger cartridges for best value, we calculate that a black-only print costs about 3 cents and a full color page costs about 15 cents. Both costs are reasonable, though slightly higher than those for the Oki C5500n. The monthly duty cycle is 35,000 prints. Here are our favorites. Our library is the biggest of these that have literally hundreds of thousands of different products represented. I get my most wanted eBook Many thanks If there is a survey it only takes 5 minutes, try any survey which works for you. Its toner is expensive, however, and its control panel is confusing. Setting up the printer is very easy. The documentation (a printed setup poster and owner's manual, plus an HTML-based user guide) is thorough. The included CD offers an automated setup process, and live-action videos illustrate all the steps. Inserting the PHD (Print Head Device) unit is the one tricky part, as it's heavy and the handles are small. You also have to heft this thing over the transfer belt, which lies belly-up within the opened front cover. Though many colour lasers have a similar design, they don't require you to manoeuvre something so heavy within this space. Dell says the transfer belt can handle a scratch or two and that you'll rarely, if ever, have to move the PHD unit. The unusual toner-cartridge design is the other reason why Dell thinks you shouldn't worry too much about the transfer belt's welfare. Many printers force you to expose their innards to replace toner; with the Color Laser Printer 1320c, you simply open a side door and slide a cartridge into its keyed slot. The downside: the toner cartridges are rated for merely 1000 pages in the standard size or 2000 pages in the high-capacity size (per Dell's specs). Low-volume users may not notice for a while, but a busier office will feel the pinch pretty quickly. The front control panel is minimalist to a fault. It consists of two clearly labelled buttons and seven LEDs, most placed in specific locations in and around a line drawing of the printer. The LEDs change colour or blink to communicate the status of the printer or its various parts. The dozens of possible LED combinations take up several pages' worth of explanation in the user guide--many would be indecipherable otherwise. The best way for a printer to communicate is in human language, with words running across a display; I'm sure it's pricier to design, but it's easier for the user. To Dell's credit, the other user resources, such as the status monitor and some maintenance and diagnostic tools, are nicely designed. The driver offers a wealth of features in an accessible format. Inkjets still tend to handle colour better than lasers do, but the Color Laser Printer 1320c strikes an impressive balance. It plodded through plain-text documents at a mere 12.4 pages per minute; all fonts looked slightly thick but otherwise precise. High-resolution photos printed quickly--3.1ppm on average--and looked surprisingly smooth; colours seemed a tad bluish but essentially natural. The Color Laser Printer 1320c is best suited for a small or low-volume office. Because its paper capacity is limited (just one main input tray and a single-sheet multipurpose slot) and its toner is pricey, a larger or growing office should consider its cousin, the Color Laser Printer 3110cn, which is expandable and has higher cartridge and paper capacity.
