A very handy additional tool for accurate dating and identifying glass. It is well illustrated and lists many of the commonly found depression glass items. I recommend this to anyone.Have been able to find some pieces while at thrift shops, getting an incredible bargain. There are line drawings of the various patterns, as well as some examples in the different colors available. I was able to value the pieces in my collection, and some I was not even aware were antiques. This book is a valuable resource for anyone who is interested in the Depression Glass trade, either finding for resale or simply collecting. It's nice to know that many of my instinctive or spur of the moment purchases have been valuable, so to speak. WMD 2.0 out of 5 stars I found three fairly large mistakes in this edition of the guide within my first week of using it to look up values while antiquing. I was very much looking forward to this edition and am very much disappointed. Basically many of the pattern drawings are wrong both in the index up front and on some of the listings. In one case the diagram is opposite a photo of dishes which look obviously completely different, indicating that the fact checking on this books was poorly done. It's hard to trust the other info too with so many basic mistakes.I know these days everyone has a smartphone and can look up just about anything, and I know prices fluctuate, but this makes it easier (for me anyway) to look up patterns and brands, which I can then use to look for a current price online. It is the best little guide that goes in my purse every time I go out treasure hunting. Wonderful pattern guide in the front of the book to help you locate the pattern name. Excellent info on manufacturer, date, colors the pattern was made in, and what pieces have been reproduced. It actually has not only the Depression Era patterns, but some mid-century patterns also, such as Wexford, Windsor, Early American Prescut, Yorktown, Paneled Grape, Moonstone, Forest Green, Royal Ruby.I read the index carefully on line looking for information on a particular pattern. It was listed as having 2 pages devoted to my pattern. Unfortunately when the book arrived it did not include any information that applied to my pattern.I like to know how to identify the reproductions and don't see that in the Warman's unless I missed it. I know it does list reproductions on the beginning page of each pattern, but no way to identify them.I am somewhat disappointed but it is not as informative as other Depression Glass Guides, most likely because it is so compact and portable. Patterns that I collect are missing from this addition, so I am not quite happy with it.A must have!A good, information book, however. The price are right and non exhorbitives. The dimensions of the book are pecfect to travel with it.It was posted in a timely manner and it was well packed. I am sure she will love it as she has wanted a copy of this book for quite some time. October 15, 2009 As much as I loved the 2nd edition, this third edition is just an absolute eye-popper. It has more patterns represented. The company timeline, the color timeline, the pattern thumbnail guide, the color swatches, are all excellent help in identifying glass. It's well formated, easily readable, and has good close-up drawings of the patterns. I especially find it useful to know which patterns and forms are being reproduced. The book is small and can easily be carried in a pocketbook or tote, which is great. It has saved me from buying somethings that looked good, but were repros or not quite right. I bought it because it was small and easy to carry. I highly recommend this for any collector. It's thick but small enough to fit in a purse. It's very informative. It gives the value of each pattern piece and gives a history of the porcelain companies. It also has detailed drawings of each pattern and colored pictures of several pieces. I just love this book. I've learned so much already, and I've only had it a week. It's so quick and easy to look up patterns and values, I'll definitely have it with me when I go looking for Depression Glass from now on.
