If they do not, adjust the chain slack and align the wheel alignment (see Drive Chain Slack Adjustment). Replace the chain guide if it shows any signs of abnormal wear or damage. Brakes Brake System Brake Fluid Leak (Brake Hose and Pipe) Inspection. NOTICE Except for the disc pads and disc, use only disc brake fluid, isopropyl alcohol, or ethyl alcohol for cleaning brake parts. WARNING The piston in the brake caliper can crush hands and fingers. If the oil leakage is found on it, replace the shock absorber with a new one.Refer to the Im- mobilizer System (Equipped Models) section in the Elec- trical System chapter). Sidestand Switch Operation Gear Clutch. Battery (see Charging Condition Inspection in the Elec- trical System chapter) Main Fuse 30 A (see Fuse Inspection in the Electrical System chapter) Ignition Fuse 15 A (see Fuse Inspection in the Electrical System chapter) Standard Spark Plug Type: NGK CR9E. Do not use any other battery except for a 12 V sealed battery as a power source. The problem history can be referred using the KDS (Kawasaki Diagnostic System) when solv- ing unstable problems. When the motorcycle is down, the vehicle-down sensor operates and the ECU shuts off the fuel pump relay, fuel injectors and ignition system. If the connector is corroded or dirty, clean it carefully. If it is damaged, replace it.It is meant simply as a rough guide to assist the troubleshooting for some of the more common difficulties in DFI system. Fuel line clogged Inspect and repair (see chapter 3).Subthrottle valve actuator trouble Inspect (see chapter 17).Poor Running or No Power at High Speed Symptoms or Possible Causes Actions. Subthrottle valve actuator trouble Inspect (see chapter 17). Throttle valves will not fully open Inspect throttle cables and lever linkage (see chapter 3). So, do not confuse ECU with each other and use only the ECU for your model. Other- wise, the motorcycle cannot clear the regulation.If the connector is clogged with mud or dust, blow it off with compressed air. ECU Fuse Installation If a fuse fails during operation, inspect the DFI system to determine the cause, and then replace it with a new fuse of proper amperage. If the fuel pressure is much higher than specified, replace the fuel pump because the fuel pressure regulator in the fuel pump have been clogged or stuck. Make sure the area is well venti- lated and free from any source of flame or sparks; this includes any appliance with a pilot light. Wiring Continuity Inspection ECU Connector (Gray) Fuel Injector Connector. If the pressure holds steady, the fuel line is good. If the pressure drops at once or if bubbles are found in the area, the fuel line is leaking. Replace the delivery pipe assy, injectors and related parts. Throttle Body Assy Removal WARNING Gasoline is extremely flammable and can be explo- sive under certain conditions, creating the potential. NOTICE Never drop the fuel injector especially on a hard surface. Make sure the area is well venti- lated and free from any source of flame or sparks; this includes any appliance with a pilot light. WARNING Fuel is flammable and explosive under certain con- ditions and can cause severe burns. Be prepared for fuel spillage; any spilled fuel must be completely wiped up immediately. WARNING Leaking fuel can cause a fire or explosion resulting in serious burns. Al- though no adjustments are required, a thorough visual in- spection must be made at the intervals specified by the Pe- riodic Maintenance Chart. Be sure to hold the front brake when removing the engine. Never reuse the connecting rod bolts. See the table below for correct bolt and nut usage. NOTICE Be careful not to overtighten the nuts. The bolts must be positioned on the seating surface correctly to prevent the bolt heads from hitting the crankcase. NOTICE Discard the connecting rod bolts and nuts. To pre- vent damage to the crankpin surfaces, do not al- low the connecting rod bolts to bump against the crankpins. Replace the clutch gear if it is worn or damaged. This will cause the positive neutral finder mechanism to malfunction. HG: Apply high-temperature grease. R: Replacement Parts WL: Apply soap and water solution or rubber lubricant. WARNING A loose axle nut can lead to an accident resulting in serious injury or death.Never at- tempt to repair a damaged wheel part. If the wheel part is damaged, it must be replaced with a new one.For these reasons, Kawasaki does not recommend temporary (exter- nal) repair.
