SVNA has good worked-through examples, clear explanations (as clear as thermo can be, at least) and makes-sense notation. Can't comment on transport; I've only read BSL. I asked my professor and he advised I try Geankoplis then work my way up to Bird (which he likes a lot). Some of the problem solutions require hilariously out-of-left-field assumptions, so I recommend finding the solutions manual if you do the problems. Most transport books suck, so go with the classics: Frank White and BSL.
