0 out of 5 stars I bought it mostly out of my childhood obsession I had with these player guides. I never owned any official player guides growing up, I always got the unofficial Prima ones. So it's awesome to have this. As far as the content of the book goes, yea you don't NEED it to beat the game itself, but it comes in handy post-beating the game as you have hundreds of moons to fine and while you can get the locations marked on your map, the book will tell you how to unlock the not so obvious ones. Again you don't have to buy this, but I would if you grew up on Mario like I did.I like to complete my games by myself and not rely on help but I bought this guide as I picked up the game on release day as it caught my eye. It looked like a nice durable hardcover collectable book. As I got home flipping through it (Not too much as to not spoil anything) I was really impressed. When I got done with a good chunk of the game I really begin to really dive into the guide going through the things I had already done. It's really good on detail. From the artwork, character bios, level design breakdown, and unlockables. It's really nice book to use whether its for its actual intended use for helping struggling players or an unofficial art book so to speak to complete the game experience on what is a really awesome game. I have passed on my love of Mario games to my five year old twins (mommy is a closet gamer). There are a ton of photos in this book and it makes it easy for my girls to find the purple coins and hidden moons. They can't read yet, but there are so many photos, it's actually easy to follow along. Nice addition to the Odyssey game. My kids love looking at the photos and talking about moons they already got.Highly recommended. Will most definitely help you find all of the moons in the game. MoogleMan3 5.0 out of 5 stars I have both, and while the collector's edition guide is extremely nice, especially the larger font size, this one has the same content at a much lower price. So if you're just looking for a guide to help with the game, this one will do the trick. In regards to the book itself, it's about the size of a typical manga, the binding is good and the pages are matte, but are thinner than the collector's edition guide. As mentioned previously, the font size is smaller then the collector's edition guide. There's also less pages overall (288 vs 336 in the collector's edition). As for content, it covers all the necessities. You'll be able to 100 the game with this guide.It is very small though and very lacking in pictures to aid you. If it's just the size that bugs you, you can purchase the hardcover but know, it is identical to this in terms of content. Which brings us to the most important part. I'll try to break it down better so you know exactly what you're buying. The strategy guide part of this book is find but to be honest thats not why you'll be getting this. Theres really only 2 reasons youll need this book 1. Moons. So it's divided into each kingdom with a small picture at the beginning showing where all the moons are on the map for said kingdom. Each moon also has its own number and a very very short description on how to get it. So short in fact, the descriptions serve more as clues than a guide. Figuring out what they mean is a puzzle in itself. Furthermore, they often leave out key parts to getting a moon, which left me to google and realize i had to do something extra that was not written in. On some lucky moons there is a small picture to accompany its labrynth of a description. Unfortunately the pictures are so small and mostly irrelevent they wont be of any help at all. This guide has the bare minimum; just enough to say it has everything. Honestly, even with it's cheap price, save your money. Use a youtube video or an online walkthrough.He spends hours and hours pouring over this and has memorized hundreds of (entirely useless outside this game) facts. Be prepared to practice your skills of sounding amazed and interested as these facts are relayed to you (the parent) for weeks on end. Aside from my discomfort at the changing face of childhood the book seems to be what it says it is. It is well made, has large pages and colored pictures.It's like we are playing together plus I make her laugh when I try stupid (er, clever, inventive) moves to accomplish my goals. I would have given this guide five stars but a few times she's had to go online to interpret what was being suggested and sometimes I've been able to find an easier way to get to something, after she's read me the whole paragraph and I've decided that's too complicated as outlined. Overall, it's a good guide and there's so much to this game, there were bound to be some trouble spots in the guide.I can use on the PC and the small guide to go. Haven't played yet since the Switch Lite hasn't arrived yet.They are shown on a map, but no specific instructions are provided. It comes with an E-Guide, which is helpful.
