I know the drain hose really is probably clogged but now, after reading all the people on here and all the problems, I think I'm going to be screwed too. I already feel duped that I got rid of my perfectly working old fridge for fifteen years because I wanted a stainless side by side with all the features. Ha ha ha. serves me right for being so stupid and not looking it up before buying it. There truly is a sucker born every minute but apparently not at the Frigidaire company. They're making money from all the suckers. My son works out of state a lot and is a single father of our three youngest grandchildren. Delivery was delayed until just before we arrived for Christmas. The first day of operation, the ice cream keeper door (top freezer model) broke. Without the door, the top shelf in the freezer door is useless. However, in the freezer they freeze and become brittle and have the strength of some cheap Chinese toy made by slave labor, because on first use on delivery day, after my son went to the store to buy food and ice cream and the first time he used the door, the left tip broke off. My son went to Lowe’s and they ordered a new cover. What arrived four months later from Frigidaire was the wrong item. On top of that (keep in mind that my son and his children are home very little because of his job - children stay with relatives while he is away), the next time we visited, I tried to open the ref’s door and the plastic handle broke clean through in my hand. Frigidaire had been totally non-responsive and until I personally talked with the store manager and demanded a completely new refrigerator (saying I would even pay the difference in sales price and application of my military discount), Lowe’s could not care less at all. After my entry into this problem, the store manager has started doing something at least, but says Frigidaire must be given opportunity to respond and has ordered again an ice cream keeper door and a new handle. That has been weeks ago. And Frigidaire has yet to respond. Shame on Frigidaire for such a shoddy design and it is obvious the people who design their refrigerators use ones made by somebody else. It would have been so simple to spend a few pennies more and to make the Ice Cream Keeper door with reinforced hinge tips. The design was good, but cheaply and poorly executed. It was on fire when I got to it and pulled the unit away from the wall and unplugged it. I was very concerned and called Frigidaire to warn them of this potential threat to other customers' lives. The company said they did not want to even look at it. I told them that the least they could do is to send a technician out and see what caused such a fire so that newer models could be built in such a way that this could not happen. The Frigidaire company does not care that one of their products can catch on fire. Don't buy their products. Then a few months later, the bracket that holds the glass for the shelf broke apart, and I had to use heavy duty bandages to secure it. Now today, 2 days before Thanksgiving, the shelf crumbled leaving plastic and glass all over my refrigerator and no shelf to hold the bin. This is ridiculous! I've read several reviews and these appliance makers should be ashamed of themselves. It's not a 20 dollar item that needs replaced but something that costs hundreds of dollars. When I called Customer Service the first time, they were rude and told me where I could buy parts. This needs to stop and the companies need to make reparations to its consumers. The refrigerator has been repaired 3 times under the warranty (1 year) and now the ice maker has gone bad again (out of warranty). No help from Frigidaire customer service. The microwave smelled like burning electrical. If you still feel like you want to buy Frigidaire products, get the longest extended warranty you can get. You'll need it. All work very well but the fridge makes a buzzing sound like a cell phone on buzz alert is going off inside it - very random. He can’t do anything else. I exchanged the unit for another - same thing. It’s only bad if you have a quiet house (I like to read in complete quiet). I don’t even hear it with the TV on, etc. It’s very annoying if dead quiet.I didn't think too much of it because we had the party icemaker in the bottom freezer. Then in the beginning of this summer (2012), it slowly started to make ice less and less. Then, it stopped all together and started leaking water down the back into the bottom freezer. If I hadn't noticed it, there would have been a flood in my kitchen. I called Lowe’s where I bought the fridge (and whole matching kitchen set), and they referred me to the repair company because it was just over a year and I had paid for the extended warranty. I called them and they sent a repairman out, for which, of course, I had to use vacation time to have the appointment. Once they saw the fridge, they immediately said that the icemaker in my unit was the most complicated to work on. They ordered parts and left. I scheduled another service call once the items were delivered. They came out and replaced the motherboard, and it didn't fix the problem. So I had to call them back to try to repair it again. When the repairman came, he stated that they had lost the contract with Frigidaire and he couldn't work on it. So that was another wasted vacation day. Then, I called them back because I still had no ice and it was leaking. They came back and repaired the seals around the unit and a couple other small pieces. They have completely replaced or repaired every item associated with the icemaker and I still have no ice and a water leak. This has been going on for months with no resolution. I just want a new refrigerator because this one is a lemon. The first was a bad door alignment that left a gap at the top of the gasket on the refrigerator door. The second was frost accumulation in the freezer. The latest is a loud humming that the service people say nothing can be done about it and I am to expect some humming as normal. Humming? Once this thing gets going, I cannot stand to be in the same room with it. The service people informed me that since the refrigerator is cooling, what is my problem. My problem is that I've never heard anyone's refrigerator make such a racket and the company keeps sending the same people out here. Just before I moved, I bought another brand of refrigerator that indeed had a slight buzzing sound which was fine, but this thing. How I wish all of my appliances didn't match so I could take it to the dump. Don't buy this brand. Then the water was leaking out from the ice maker running down the front of the fridge. Then the french freezer door had the track replaced and the drawer is still getting hung up on the left side. Finally, another attempt was made to fix the ice maker and the part they needed, they didn't even carry, so they had no other choice but to replace my fridge. I'm waiting on my voucher to come in the mail. I purchased my product at Lowe's in June 2011 and had nothing but problems with it. So far, we have had Accent Appliance repair a drawer slide that was defective - put in a new icemaker and a new gasket on the freezer door. Now, the top icemaker is dripping water continually; the ice is only half-frozen, and it sticks together. I am sick of this refrigerator. I have been married almost 55 years and have had Whirlpool refrigerators and started out with a GE. A refrigerator usually lasts 12 to 15 years without any problems for us. This Frigidaire is nothing but a piece of junk, and I don't have the money to just throw it away and get another one, but I will never buy another Frigidaire. I think where it is manufactured is why it is defective; there is not the craftsmanship in the manufacturing or quality control, or it would have been checked out further before it came to me. When workers have no pride in the work, this is the kind of junk you get. I am angry, frustrated, and very dissatisfied with this refrigerator. I really resent having to deal with this, and I think the whole refrigerator should be replaced - it is a piece of trash. For about a month, the refrigerator was resetting itself. I would open it to find all the food was warm and it stopped making ice. I thought it was the kids being in it too much. It was summer and hot. Then one night, about 3 weeks later, my brother came home from work at 2 in the morning and smelled something burning. He could not find where it was coming from. Then he heard a noise coming from the refrigerator and saw smoke coming from the back of it. He moved it out to find flames coming out the back. Thank God he came home when he did. I could have lost my house. I just paid it off. After reading all the comments, I am buying another refrigerator from another company instead of getting it fix. The food in the freezer section was completely covered with frost. After 2 or 3 repairs (I had an extended warranty), the first appliance was replaced with the same model. Both have been very loud. Do not buy this appliance. The bottom part (the refrigerator) temperature went crazy. My milk turned to cottage cheese, I lost all my Labor Day food that was cooked for the holiday. After repeated calls, a tech came out and replaced the gasket. I am so unsatisfied with this product and the company that sold it to me. I will never purchase a Frigidaire product again. I opened the back to dust out and wipe out. There is no way to get at the drip pan to wash it. So, I went to the front, took off the grid and looked at it. Two screws were holding it on. I can’t take that off, so I looked it up on their site. It says it doesn’t come out at all. It drips water and then it dries. In time, it will smell. I am sorry I bought any Frigidaire. We just moved to this state and our house back in Wisconsin, we had all GE products. I never had problems. Years ago, Frigidaire had a bad rep. Never again. The people at the place where I bought it were as helpful as they could be, but the Frigidaire company (so they must be ashamed of their product). I have had it repaired four times in the five years that I have had it, and it is not working again. The model number is FRT18s6jw5 and the serial number is BA91345167. I would really like a replacement for this. The stove one of the eyes won’t turn down, stays on high no matter if the knob is on low, med or what. We've called the number in the refrigerator 6 times to no avail; supposedly, a supervisor is trying to get us new appliances. They’ve only been installed for 4 months. Very disappointed in this company. I thought they were very reliable. The refrigerator gasket has been replaced twice. I could write a book on this experience alone. Now, the fridge will not go below 40 degrees. I have it set at 33. I am losing food and their response is to have yet another tech come out and look. So it’s another day off from work due to their crappy Mexican-made products. They are coming today. Next step for me is my attorney. This is pathetic. There's no ice, and my food goes bad quickly. I'm unable to preserve store food and have to purchase meat on a daily basis to cook. There is water leaking in the back of the trudge, and I don't know where it is coming from. What a waste of money. No more Frigidaire appliances for me. The seal around the door on the bottom is ripping and separating from the door. The water on the door drips out slowly. The icemaker does not make ice fast enough. We always run out. I will call the company tomorrow. I can imagine what they will say. So far, this is a horrible product. I'm very disappointed. It probably won't last two years. Why would a company make such a terrible product and sell it to hard working folks who paid a fortune of money and now are stuck. The compressor and wiring were on fire and there were actual flames. I did not buy the extended warranty, but I thought it would last more than 2 years. Catherine of Langhorne, PA A while back, I complained about a side-by-side that caused us great aggravation because of its constant malfunctioning. The unit was either too hot or too cold, causing us to lose a lot of food. She was there for us and helped us solve the problem. I would buy again from this company. Original review: Aug. 7, 2012 Our Frigidaire side-by-side is approaching five years old. From day one, we’ve had nothing but trouble with it. It’s the same issue every time: the temperature control doesn’t cool properly. We’ve lost countless amounts of food and have experienced stress and aggravation from this irreparable appliance. Throughout the years we’ve had this lemon, we’ve had a total of twenty service calls - all for the same issue. We bought the service policy, but the recurring problems continue to be unsolvable. We called the customer service number (Electrolux), but were only offered an extension of our service policy. The latest is that a very experienced technician, who came out (a second time) this month, talked on the phone to another technician because it was impossible to figure out why the refrigerator is still not working. He said we may never find out what the problem is. He also told us that we have to unplug the unit periodically, leave it off for a few minutes, and then plug it in again. This is not easy for my husband or me as we can’t lift heavy things. We have been to hell and back with this Frigidaire refrigerator and are getting no satisfaction from the company. No one is allowed to speak to the head person there. All I would like is for the company to send someone to our home to witness what is happening with the unit and to come to a fair agreement, which, in my opinion, is to provide us with a new unit. This lemon is too much for anyone to bear. I caution you to think twice before you buy any Frigidaire product. The company does not care about their customers. To us, this is an extreme case and we believe we should be compensated fairly for the aggravation we've experienced from this refrigerator from hell. I was given two numbers - Sun Appliance and Town 'n Country, both of which will not come to my area to do service. I have called back several times because they keep telling me they are trying to find someone to help me but I've heard nothing. My appliance is still under warranty and I don't think that I should have to pay anything for someone to come here and fix it - which looks like what I'm going to have to do if I want a refrigerator that actually works. I am just very aggravated with this whole process. I should not be going through this on an appliance that is under warranty. I called Frigidaire and advised of the problem and ordered the part suggested by the phone representative. The parts that were sent were for the control panel for the refrigerator not the ice and water dispenser. Upon calling Frigidaire, the phone rep stated we had given the wrong information. When asked if the refrigerator was made in China, the rep advised yes, but some are made in the US. That explained the cheap electronics. It is going to take 24-48 hours for Frigidaire to call me back to see if they will take the parts back. I did not get an extended warranty. My last Kenmore refrigerator lasted 20 years without a squawk. The ice maker never functioned well. In December, I finally called and a technician who installed an IM board and said it would probably go out again. 6 months later, it did go out again. He would not give me a guarantee after the installation because this ice maker is notorious for having problems. I cannot get a warranty now.Our refrigerator caught on fire. We have a side-by-side, and when I opened the refrigerator door, there was a pop and flames started shooting out from the top. The entire refrigerator was filled with black soot, and the electrical burning stench was overwhelming. Once the fire was out, 6 different firemen said they had never seen a refrigerator burning on the inside. The interior was melted, and the plastic was dripping down the inside. It's an absolutely terrifying experience, and I plan to pursue this further. I can't imagine what could have happened if we had not been home. Since then, Seattle Home Appliance has had to have their service techs out now 5 times. The ice maker has stopped working 3 times. The temperature for both the refrigerator and freezer has had to be replaced, and now, the ice maker stopped working again. I reached in and touched the ice maker tray and burnt my finger; it was so hot. So, I ended up turning off the ice maker, and now, we've been without an ice maker for 3 weeks while we wait once again. How do I return this piece of junk and replace it with one that works. I tried submitting a request on the website and, after six times of receiving a server error message, it finally went through, but I have not had a response. I did some research and evidently, we belong to a very large group of dissatisfied customers. We bought the product because of Frigidaire's really good reputation in the past; not knowing the company was sold to a foreign entity. Judging by my research, their reputation has deteriorated completely. This company should be barred from trading in the United States. It caught fire to the top ceiling wall, causing a small fire and put a burnt hole on top of the ceiling wall of the refrigerator. Everything is filled with snow and ice. We called and the girl referred us to the manual which said blow dry the back vent due to ice buildup. I did that. It stayed free of ice for about two weeks and now there is so much ice along the top of the freezer door that you have to knock the ice off to close the freezer door tight. Unsubscribe at any time. Lately it's been acting up (getting warmer on both sides) and we called a repair man. He said the auto defrost heater on the freezer side was broken (sparking) and the freezer needed to be defrosted, which he did. He charged us 130 for the house call and labor. My wife informed me afterwards she'd been cutting chunks of ice out of the freezer for a while so we probably should've caught this sooner but she didn't think anything of it. Questions: he wants to repair the heater for 90-135 (parts) plus labor (another 130ish). A: is that a reasonable cost, and B: is there any reason we cannot begin to simply manually defrost the freezer every few months rather than replace the heater. If you defrost yourself, you will have to do it every couple of weeks. Perhaps you could do it yourself. Didn't realize it was that cheap. Do you know if installing the part requires any specialized tools or training or should it be relatively straightforward. If the heater was sparking then it may be good depending on where it is sparking from. If it's the connection then the heater is good and all you need to do is repair the connection. I have had to change a handful of these heaters but when I do I hard wire them because the connection causes so much trouble. I'd check it with an ohm meter, google how to check a heater with a meter and see if you even need one. I would change the bimetal like Thrgd456 said as they are a common failure across all brands.
