Not sure for how long these service manuals will be available for downloads but they are the time of wringing this post. Some files are large and it might take some time to download them, so be patient. Thank you to www.elhvb.com Do you have a problem with your Sony Vaio laptop. Post it here, somebody can help you. The VGN-BX manual looks really useful, but no mention is made of where the wireless card is located. I’m assuming it’s accessed by removing the keyboard. Can anyone help, please? Thanks I’ve acquired alot from you. Please, is it possible to change the screen of a Laptop and if Yes, how can it be down. It was a great help for me to fix my vaio notebook. I’m trying to replace the DC in jack. Thanks in advance. It’s a Sony Notebook Computer Model:PCG-5224. Need to replace dc jack. Thanks! Helped a lot. Manual available above shows disassembly instructions, but the cmos battery location not specified. The pictures are not very clear. Probably it’s located somewhere on the motherboard and it looks like a 10 cent coin. I’m trying to check out the DVD drive, it may have disconnected but I don’t know how to remove it to check connections.http://greenwich9.ru/UserFiles/download-car-manual.xml

Has anyone dealt with this type of issue. Does anyone have a service manual with laptop motherboard schematics. Any information would be greatly appreciated. After that boot your laptop for the recovery disc and reimage the hard drive back to factory defaults. Just boot from the recovery dics and follow the wizard on the screen. You can get to the boot menu if you press F8 on startup. Also, try booting in Safe Mode. If you can boot to the desktop try using System Restore utility and revert Windows back. It’s a silver part that’s on the left side of the laptop. The slot where the memory stick goes has a crack in it. I’m really having a hard time knowing if the parts that I’ve found are ther right one because I don’t have the part number. It doesnt even boot up or make noises, like it is completely dead. However, when I plug the charger into the computer to charge it, the “charging” light doesnt come on, or blink like it should, but the light on the charger box is green, meaning it is working fine. It doesnt even boot up or make noises, like it is completely dead. If you have two memory sticks installed, you can remove them one by one and test the laptop with each stick separately. If the laptop works fine with one module and will not boot with the second one, the last module is bad and has to be replaced. It is slightly loose and will not stay connected unless I have my hand on it and watch the battery-charge widget to make sure it is connecting and charging the battery. Can someone point me to a service manula for that 17 inch laptop. I would also like to upgrade the HDD and the internal RAM chip. Please help. Thanks, and all the best to you! After that just follow instructions on the screen. Did someone know wich is the BIOS chip and where is that placed. Thanks a lot. It will not turn on, with or without the power cable. I have traced power all the way up to the power adapter inside the computer. Right?http://aimara-bg.com/userfiles/download-car-owner-manual.xml It’s possible that your office software is compatible with Windows XP but not Vista. I purchased this laptop last year from India. Three days ago it stopped working completely and It is not getting started. There are no LED displays. I tried holding the power button for 30 seconds and then releasing it, also removing the battery and then connecting it, but they was of no use. I also checked the ac adapter and it is working fine (the adapter has a led display which is glowing when i connect it to the power supply). Can anyone tell me what could be the problem. I want to replace the wireless card with a Draft-n wireless card and also replace the hard drive to SSD. Searched google and ended up here. If anyone can help, I’d appreciate it. Thanks. I want to replace the hd, but don’t know how to open it without damaging. THanks for any help ! Unfortunately it seems as the bad solder joints on the RAM-socket finally gave in. Additionally the HDD’s death is imminent. So I’m thinking of either disassembling and using the LCD and maybe other parts or getting the RAM-socket fixed. Any hints on successful projects using such an LCD as standalone screen attached to either VGA or DVI? Really need to swap a HDD out. You’re a unique community. I got the part and got the screen out. From what I found on the internet, it looks like I have to pry up the top plastic around the keyboard. Thats where I’m hesitating. I found a service manual for a VGN-C but the top plastic is a little different than this one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Now I want to change that to windows xp and i have tried several time but to no avail. It seems that the xp setup simply can’t recognise the hard drive.Does it give you an error message. By the way, some laptop that come with Vista do not support XP. Before you jump in and reformat the hard drive, visit the Sony website and find out if they have device drivers for Windows XP. However you might not be able to find xp drivers for the motherboard devices ie.One day my keyboard suddenly responded strangely. Some keys do not response. Some keys respond as other keys. For example, pressing a key like “j” (can’t remember exactly which letter, just take j as an example) will be responded as pressing “Delete”. Horrified, I reboot the computer. A lot of noises (beep-beep-beep) during the start up process. But the computer can start. But the keyboard problem persist. Please help. I think it’s either bad keyboard or failed keyboard controller on the motherboard. Try replacing the keyboard first and if you still experience the same problem, apparently there is a problem with the keyboard controller. If that’s the case, you’ll have to replace the motherboard. Anyway thanks for the service manual. On rare occasions the motherboard will need to be replaced. I need a service manual. I hav by mistake change de power setting. There are certain trip like switches on de mother board. They are changed by me. Can any body help me.. ? Of my laptop. Its sony vaio model no.Can u help me. Post your e-mail up here and we can talk. And yes, you can pay the postage. Hurry up and get in touch, i dont have forever ?? Thank you in advance. Efreen Do they use the same hardware connectors and interface? Sometimes the screen goes off when playing film or music but the film or music sound is still playing, and I still can see the statement of the film still moving on in a very dim image. I am sure that my laptop is normally working except the backlight. When this problem happens, I close the lid and my laptop goes to standby mode, after that I open the lid and the screen it lit again, Sometimes I have to close and open several times to get it lit back. One thing very special, If I open the lid lower or equal 90 degree, It just flash in milisecond and then turns dark. If I open it more than 90degree, It works fine. But it’s not convenient to work with a laptop like tis.http://columbuscigar.com/images/conn-organ-instruction-manual.pdf I don’t know what wrong with it. Anyone has good ideas. Please help me! I am sure that when dismantling the laptop, you have accidentally removed the tape sticked on the IB(inverter board). The IB is usually laid inside a transparent cubic plastic tube located under screen. Please take the IB out of the tube and wrap it with transparent sellotape around it as spiral shape from head to end till IB is fully wrapped.I am sure it will work fine forever, that’s amazing. Don’t think that the tape doesn’t effect to the problem, Yes, it really does. Remember not to remove any sellotape sticked on mainboard. I found this page because I want to repair my VGN-S150. It sometimes fails to pass the BIOS POST. When it fails, I’ll still get the power light, the battery light (when appropriate), and the Wireless light (when turned on), but there’s no LCD activity, and no Vaio sound (that’s the setting I turned to tell me BIOS POST was successful). Have you tried removing RAM modules, reseting them, turning on the laptop with only one RAM module installed. Try that first. Recently there was an spark from the cooling vent area and it followed bit of smoke. After that the cooling fan stopped working. I also realized that there is a thin strip of line on my display. However, still the laptop is working. Could anyone suggest me what might be wrong with the laptop? I don’t know. I cannot tell without looking at the laptop. From your description I assume that you have a fried component on the motherboard and replacing the cooling fan will not help. However, when I followed your clues and checked both the motherboard and cooling fan area, I found out something interesting. Actually the smoke was coming from the dust gathered in the cooling fan area and I am still not sure about the sparks. Even the display is ok. It saved both money and time. I had to disassemble a VGN-N130G to pull the hard drive. Is there a method of reattaching it, or should I find a replacement keyboard? A key fell off the laptop keyboard. Fixing the problem. I discovered one of my RAM chips was bad, indeed. I would look over every few minutes to check up on the program’s progress. On one occasion, I noticed the timer had not progressed and the progress bar looked erratic but working. I lifted the laptop with my right hand grasping the right side of the keyboard. The timer had jumped to its correct time and the progress bar displayed as expected. I put the laptop down and the timer froze. The progress bar went wonky again.Lifting the laptop gave its mainboard enough pressure in the right places to reconnect the BGA (ATI) chip. I got this laptop for free because it was no longer reliably working, so I’m very willing to try risky procedures and safer ones that may only provide temporary relief. I was thinking of putting rubber padding underneath the mainboard where the ATI chip is located. I was also thinking about taking the fan and heatsink off and putting one or even two thin copper or aluminum squares with thermal grease between the ATI chip and the heatsink. I’m not skilled enough to perform a solder reflow of the ball grid array. I have tried removed the cmos battery bur it does not help. I’ve heard that SONY stored the password in a security chip and it has to be replaced, but where is it. Anyone has another way to bypass it? Thanks Can some one tell me where to buy sony power supply or where to down load diagram of sony vgn cr4000??? Tks a lot!!!! Actually both the speakers are not working. Even i set the high volume in system i didn’t get the sound in the speakers.External speakers and headphones are working properly while connecting them in it. But I dont know, what is the problem in the internal speaker. Should I reinstall the driver. Kindly, assit me to fix this problem. How do I enable the modem or LAN ports? Have you tried reinstalling device drivers for the modem and LAN. If reinstalling drivers doesn’t help, back up all personal data and reinstall Vista from the recovery disc. If still no help, most likely you have a faulty motherboard and it has to be replaced. I’ve been looking for a service manual or some instruction on how to disassemble the screen with no result. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it. Thank you. I’ve looked through some of them, but it seems the VGN-FW series is a little different. There are only 2 screws on top and the bottom seems to be attached to the hinge. I tried opening it up but could only get it to open halfway. There must be some hidden screws somewhere that I couldn’t see. Inside the insulation looks like a string. What can I do to fix my blunder?—Jim— No one seems to be able to tell me how to dismantle to replace this part in the model that I have. Any help greatly appreciated (vet nurses shouldn’t play around with such things without a guide) Ta Test the power adapter first. Make sure the laptop is getting power from the wall. I am a little pissed off considering this laptop just past it’s 1 year mark and the warranty is expired. I have barely used it and left it in pristine condition. If I move the top of the laptop toward me, sometimes the image comes back to normal. If I move it backward, then the image freezes and goes white again. I opened the top and bottom of the laptop, and checked the connection on both sides, it seems fine. Is it possible that the cable is getting squished in the hinge.judging from the fact that moving the top back and forth causes the problem to re-appear or go away. Lately I have been using the laptop without the LCD bezel, and I removed the left speaker to give the cable more breathing room. I think this is ridiculous. The problem does happen sponataneously so I don’t know if I’ve truly narrowed down the problem yet. Have you ever seen something like this? Apparently there is a bad solder joint somewhere on the LCD controller and it fails intermittently. In some cases cleaning the fan will help. If not, probably you’ll have to replace the fan. Can you (or anyone) post it. FWIW the one listed here is the previous series. Please help!!! Thanks in advance. I suggest you clean it using cotton buds soaked in soapy water then lubricate the fan bearing with castor oil using an injection needle. The HDD lights and other lights come on, but the LCD screen stays blank. Where do I need to start? Test the laptop with each module separately. One of the modules could be bad and the laptop will start when the bad module is removed. When I push the power button the power led comes on and stays on for just a few seconds and turns off. It doesn’t give me a chance to do anything. Is this a power problem or something else? I need help finding a part (to buy) and replacing the DC jack. I’ve been looking aorund but couldn’t find any detailed instructions. Tahnks Yesterday, I was watching a video online and my computer was on the charger. Then, all of a sudden, the computer shut down, and made a crashing type of sound, which worried me. Then, after A minute, I pressed the power button to on the computer and the power was not working, meaning the computer just does not turn on, and I tried so hard to turn it on, but it just does not. Can you tell me what the problem might be as to why my laptop just does not turn on. Are there any solutions. I mean I had files in my computer and I am just so worried about it. Please, I would be happy if I can be contacted ASAP. Thanks so much! Another thing that you can do (to recover your files) it’s to take the hard drive and put it in a portable case and read it from another PC. Good Luck. I was able to remove the left hinge cover (power jack)and tried the same procedure on the right one, but can’t get it to come off. Has anyone done this before. Can you help? I find myself using it more and more. Thank You Has anyone tried this? I am looking for Scemetic diagram of the mother board. I want to repair it.You rule the world. In some cases you have to disassemble the entire laptop. Try replacing the memory module with a new one and test the laptop again. Do you have two memory modules in your laptop. Try removing them one by one. If one of the modules is bad, the laptop will start properly when the bad module is removed. It’s possible that you have failed video card (in most laptops integrated into the motherboard). It saves alot of money to those who wants to do the job own their own. My father bought me a Sony( Vaio -VGN SR43G) from Malaysia. It was working fine for 4 months. But now a problem has appeared. It doesn’t has brightness or light. I reinstalled my system, but no progress. At the time of booting, my screen shows light for 1 second, after that it remains black. If I plug other monitor it shows the screen there properly. But my laptop screen remains black. I cannot find it’s driver.I cannot find it’s driver.Right click on the webcam and uninstall the driver. Now reboot the laptop and let it detect the webcam and reinstall the drivers. This might help. What wrong with it. Can anyone help me? Please can someone help me?do I need a new screen. Thanks in advance. I successfully replaced my VGN AR51E’s screen with your detailed information here given in the PDF files. Just want to tell you that in the VGN AR series replacement instructions i see a red colored cable next to camera cable, actually my model doesn’t have this. I am not a technican just an enthusiast replaced the screen in 1 hour without any rush. Can anyone tell me how to open the LCD screen and what the price of it. I was really hoping to find the VGN-NS service manual. Any chance you’d know where I could find that. Thanks again for all your work! Sony no longer support this model. All drivers updated. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks. Take a look at the screen bezel and somewhere in the lower left or right corner find the laptop model number. After that google the model number and you’ll find it. By the way, is the laptop still bootable. You can find CPU specs in the BIOS menu. Does anybody know where I can find one. Thanks in advance. PS The laptop was not bought from Bulgaria there is no guarantee. Thank you in advance! There must be some kind of warranty even in Bulgaria. Have you tried calling the official service center? It worked perfectly fot 2 weeks, and then vertical red stripes appeared on the screen. Searching on the internet, I found that there is a recurrent grapic card problem on vaio fz series. I’m searching for the manual to try to check inside. Is it possible to fix this problem? Thanks Nope, it doesn’t sound like the backlight lamp failure. A failed backlight lamp wouldn’t cause vertical red stripes on the screen. I have looked all over for problems, and apparently Vaios have a lot of problems related to the trackpad. I don’t remember Sony VGN-CR515E model off the top of my head. Also take a look at the trackpad software installed on your laptop. The problem is that when I power up (with or without battery) the screen displays Vaio logo momentarily and ever so quickly fades away. I cannot even get output to an external monitor to view bios or the os. Can you see a very faint image. If yes, try replacing the inverter board. If it doesn’t help, replace the LCD screen. Take a look at this post for more troubleshooting help: I am only abel to see something if I set 1-4 ON but the BIOS come out 2 times and all strange letters while in the external monitor it is showed perfect. I need service manual for SONY VAIO (PCG-9A4N)notebook. I need to change the keyboard and I need instructions on how to do this. Thanks. THANK YOU for making the manuals available. I was a GREAT help. I would, however, prefer a few more words about the difficulty of particular tasks. It’s never as simple as “Just do this.” ?? I had to assume that I took the top and bottom apart. OK, so I am a noob. That’s fine. Just thinking my comment might help someone. Is there any way you provide me more information about how to replace LCD screen for VPCCW21FX. Thanks in advance. I need to change the keyboard and I need instructions on how to do this. Thanks. The drive is not working properly or what? Now that its blown id like to fix it myself and want to know how to go about doing it.The left half of the screen lights up but it doesn’t display. Toward the right half of the screen it appears to be fine. I would really appreciate some guidance. The screen backlight still works, it means the inverter board works properly. I think this is LCD screen failure and you’ll have to replace the screen. Does it look something like this? I posted LCD screen troubleshooting tips here: I could not find a suitable description for my Sony Vaio VGN-Z46GD. Any help will be appreciated ?? Does anyone know of a quick fix?? Any suggestions, please? Any suggestions, please? When you say the screen goes blank, does it mean the backlight still there but there is no image. Test your laptop with an external monitor. Can you get image on the external monitor? Does anyone know of a quick fix?? Here’s something you can try. Use an external USB mouse. Right click on the touchpad and uninstall it. Restart the laptop and let it re-detect the touchpad. Although the laptop is old, whenever I go to my mothers house I still use it, doing so now (ubuntu and xp). There are not many parts you can upgrade, except memory, hard drive and in some cases CPU. It looks like your Sony Vaio vgn-a197vp can take up to 2GB RAM (two 1GB modules), so you can upgrade memory. Also, this laptop is old and most likely running a 4200RPM IDE hard drive. You can speed up the laptop by upgrading to a 5400RPM or even better 7200RPM hard drive. This requires OS reinstall or cloning. Both the keyboard and touchpad have stopped working, although F2 and F8 work when booting. New hard drive fitted with fresh install, this did not help. Might as well do an overhaul if I can get the relevant manual. If you not sure which screws securing the DVD drive, try removing all screws located under the drive. After that try pulling the DVD drive from the laptop. It’s possible the connection is loose and reconnecting the cable will fix the problem. Hope someone can help me. Where do I buy them from I checked with a service center close to my place but they seem to be more focused on how much they can fleece me. They suggested the computer would need repair in addition to cleaning, as soon as I mentioned red ants. Plus I cannot visit that city for another three weeks. Any suggestion as to what I can do to prevent further damage till I can get to a service center. I live in a not so well-connected town in India. Can anyone help me out here? I thought it was overheated but did not want to include more. When you make a power cable to the shutter release button lamp flashes.I was dumb and took it on a camping trip over a very rough road. It did not like that. Now it GPFs regularly. A memory diagnostic did not turn up anything with the RAM. I want to disassemble it to see if there is something that jarred loose, etc. I am looking for a guide to disassemble the body of the sucker. It is not at all obvious. Even a guide to replacing the keyboard would be a help, as that would get me into the case. There are no obvious tabs, screws, etc., that suggest a way in. Any help appreciated. I purchased a new plastic for the bottom and would feel much better about the repair if I had a manual. Thanks, Mike If external video works fine and the problem appears only on the laptop screen, it could be one of the following: 1. Bad connection between the video cable and LCD screen or motherboard. Reseating connections might help. 2. LCD screen failure. 3. Bad video cable. It just happened to me that today morning i folder my laptop in normal way without shut down just like sleep mode. I usually do this from past 1 year or so. Surprise that, when i came and try to start my laptop, i see that alomost half of my screen (Bottom) went white.i see that mouse pointer is not going below that half screen.but when i click randomly.its opened whatever stored there. Now i have no idea what went wrong as i did not do anything with laptop. I even completely restored the laptop with factory settings.but still that half white screen is coming.(Usually the screen is not totally white.some icons or any items behind are look like faded.but cant see though). Can some one pls help me as what could be the problem and laptop dont have warranty anymore. pls help. I’m afraid, you’ll have to replace the screen. There is a chance of bad connection between the video cable and LCD screen but probably it’s just a faulty screen. If you can, try reseating the video cable on the back of the screen first. If it doesn’t help, replace the screen. It’s kind of like example 5 in the following post: Look at the lower right corner of the screen. What does it say? If I understand correctly, your laptop turns on but all you getting is a black screen. Can you see any faint image on the screen at all. Can you test your laptop with an external monitor and find out if external video still works. Maybe this is memory related problem. I would replace the DC jack, but now after I received the new DC has forgotten where the cables set PLZZZZZ help It’s somewhere on the screen bezel. What is that? Is this ok? What can I do to fix this? I cannot tell if it’s normal without looking at the laptop. It depends on the way it flickers. Probably it’s not normal. Is it still covered by the store warranty (usually 2 weeks in the US). Since I don’t find this on the list of your manuals, I wonder if it in fact has another model name. I want to know if my computer has bluetooth (since I can’t see it any switch on the outside) and where to enable it (in windows 7) Grateful for any help!!! Since I don’t find this on the list of your manuals, I wonder if it in fact has another model name. The name is probably in the lower right corner. If you have a Bluetooth card installed it should appear in the device manager. It will not turn on. Would most of the Vaio’s have similar assembly instructions. I gave the Vaio to someone who said he was sure he knew how to verify if the motherboard was dead or just the power I got back a box of parts and have no idea how to put it back together. Can anyone help locate a new one and email me a how to fix this laptop? Or which model is dismounted in a similar way. Google didn’t help me( I need get access in power button. I cannot find them. Thanks. Is there any repair manual or easy fix to sort this out.Had a look at the components, and it’s tight on space.don’t want to damage anything else.I have a Sony Vaio Laptop VGN-AR 630E model with Integrated 1.3 megapixel digital camera and microphone. I know this is on my end because all of my friends have no problem with their contacts. I’m trying all of kind troubleshooting situations, but nothing is working. For a several years I never had any this kind of problem. This started about one or two month ago. I lose hope that I ever find a solution. Looking for some answer. Thanks! Lida I have to disassemble it. Can you help me? Go to the control panel and check sound settings. Make sure the microphone is enabled, not muted. I tried to refit it by applying sloder but the clips were removed from the base of the board. At first crackly sound suggesting loose contact, now nothing (except windows sound at boot up is normal). Where could there possibly be a loose wire etc. Looked at dis-assembly pdf, but unable to find sound card wire etc., if it’s there somewhere. The spring and summer I have to put a real fan nearby, not one of these little ventilos office made ??in China, not a true ultra powerful air blower brewer. There, no more problem. But it is spring and it is not yet warm enough for the presence of this ceiling fan is bearable because there is me turns me off. ( ! !) So I’ll change the model, but I certainly do not redeem sony. More I opted for Norton360 first edition pftttttttt it starts at any time in the background and pump the ram while aggravating overheating. Norton is crap. Sony crap. Microsoft Windows: scammers with their requests for updates untimely day. Bing hotmail shit it is even difficult to remove. Here is my humble testimony. Can you help me? Thank you! I don’t see it in the service manual for this model. (I prefer to avoid dismantling the entire laptop to find it if possible.) I urgently require a spare one. Please help. I works well but needs a new CMOS. Does anyone have a service manual — know where the CMOS is located? Can I ask you for the service manual. It’s a hard work to charge the battery because of the connector.I can’t able to trust this people to give for service.
