Norris 5.0 out of 5 stars I believe this book is a compendium of a periodical published 1932-1933. There are articles about building and flying a Pietenpol (either the Sky Scout or Aircamper), and other projects. In this era, you could build a plane for peanuts--Spruce was in ample supply, every farmer knew how to weld, and those wooden garage floors were great building jigs for a fuselage. When it was time to cover the aircraft, you could get the muslin down at Woolworths.http://airportdirectcars.com/userfiles/dodge-caravan-2008-service-manual.xml This is a great book for anyone interested in learning about this era in aviation. Pietenpol plans are still available from the decendants of Bernie Pientenpol. The information presented here is not complete enough in this modern age to build an airplane, but you will have an idea of how they did it in 1932. A fascinating time-capsule from a bygone era of aviation. The modern-day plans for the Aircamper have changed a bit, and this book is of special interest to Aircamper builders who would like to see some of the history of this remarkable early homebuilt. Instead of the drum sitting still for 20 mins while the water heats up it carries on washing while its heating. My neighbour put sunglasses on the other day as my whites were blinding her from the washing line. I have never needed a stain remover I've never needed laundry bleach. Grass mud curry oil etc etc all come out first time. Tried a top loader while on holiday was amazed that they don't heat the water and only do 1 or 2 rinses my clothes were like cardboard. Never had a problem with mould or smells. And because the front loader has s heater in it I can wash towels etc on (uk ) 95 degrees I do my bedding on 60 degrees and also my whites and coloured and light coloured stuff goes on 40 degrees sorry to bore you all with my rambling regards Dave x.See More HELP.Need New Washing Machine Suggestions!!! Q Comments (23) Hi guys I live in the UK and the majority of homes id say 98 have front load machines I would always take a front load machine not a top loader. I know you don't have all the same brands over there as we do. My machines have always been very hardworking. I have one machine for the cats and dogs stuff only ever goes on 95 degrees ( not sure what that is in Celsius but here it's called a boil wash ) that machine is a hoover machine it's 12 years old and still going strong after being used twice a day everyday with no repairs. I did have hoover in the kitchen but got bored and changed to zanussi that machine worked hard for 5 years then went bang. Replaced it with another Hoover machine which also worked hard but I had to have it repaired frequently. Now I have a Miele and it's perfect. I think they are worth paying that bit extra. Especially if your going to working hard. I can get duvets in it also a huge massive furry throw that goes over my bed goes in the Miele. The Miele has a 6kg drum.http://nylitigators.com/images/computer-networking-solution-manual-kurose.pdf I had problems getting the throw in the Hoover machine even though the drum size was 7.5 kg. so in short I'd go for a Miele machine or the next best thing a Bosch then maybe think about zanussi. I wouldn't touch Samsung or LG everyone I know has had problems with them. Whirlpool machines here in the UK are crappy now as well. They had a good reputation untill a few years ago now it's all cheap Chinese rubbish. Please guys consider the front loader they are better for your clothes as they actually heat the water to the correct temperature the wash performance is so much better and so is the rinsing the spin speed is usually higher as well. I her a lot of you moan about the door seal going mouldy it doesn't take a minute to just wipe it round. And they normally only smell because people use the quick wash setting for everything. This is a big no no. Quick was is designed for very few items that just need a refresh it doesn't heat the water up enough it also drops the rinses down sometimes to just one. This means that there will residue of the detergent fabric softener and the grease etc that comes off our bodies. The normal wash programmes like the cotton wash heat up and rinse and spin properly. I always wash towels etc 95 degrees. My bedding on 60 degrees and also my whites and coloured and light coloured stuff on 40 degrees by his prohibits the build up if bacteria and mould. Also check the filter that's at the bottom of the machine and ensure the drain hose is not to low or to high ok I've rambled on long enough regards Dave xx.See More Washing Machine Hell. Does it really matter what I choose?! Q Comments (19) Thanks everyone for the comments they were helpful. I think I narrowed it down to a Whirlpool Cabrio or Maytag Bravos which are both made by Whirlpool and mostly the same machine with varying features. However, the discount program my home warranty company is offering has so many extra fees that even with the discount and money back offer, the final price ends up being about what I'd pay just going to Home Depot, Lowes, or wherever. So, I might just get the Kenmore repaired and hold off on a new one. The one thing I did find in all this research, jacquelynnmarie, is that they make anti-vibration pads for washing machines. I think I'll try these no matter what brand machine I use. They're EnergyStar, but not considered HE. I am unbelievably impressed by how much you two know. I'll let you know what I find. We just had it done to our new Miele W4840 washer.and I LOVE it. The clothes are cleaner, and much better rinsed! I was extremely happy with my previous traditional Kenmore Elite which did a fabulous job of getting diapers and clothes clean. When the agitator quit working the repair job was going to be a few hundred dollars less than new, so we thought we'd go with new. I wish I had spent the money on the repair. I did lots of research and felt the GE was the best of old school and new. I wanted a top loader to be able to soak, but I did not want a locking lid. I wanted an agitator and I also wanted to be able to control the water level and the temperature. Despite the HE components like auto sense load and auto temp, this machine still lets you choose the water level so I thought I made the best choice. I also thought it was a great price compared to the new fancy machines with all the bells and whistles that I don't need in order to do a simple task like laundry. When it was installed and I washed my first load, I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was. After a few loads however, it started making a bad squeaking sound that I knew was not normal. The big blue home improvment store that we bought it from was excellent about coming to replace it quickly. I could have chosen another machine, but I still felt this one had all the features that I wanted so I just got another one. After a few more loads I had to figure out how to make the machine do what I really wanted it to do. Because of new government restrictions, hot is barely tepid. To get the machine to fill with all hot water from the water heater without getting diluted by cold water, I have to leave the lid up. The downside to this is if I forget to put the lid down, the load never starts. I've gotten use to it, but everyone once in awhile I forget long enough that the water cools down and I have to start all over. It's ridiculous to me. Hot should mean hot. I HAVE to wash diapers on hot and their version of hot is completely unacceptable. To get the water level I want, I have to set the dial one to two loads above what I think it is. Large is really more like medium so if I fill the tub up with clothes, I have to select super to get as much water as I want. Don't change the dial while it's filling up because then the tub empties all the water and starts all over. Sort of defeats the water saving feature if you ask me. So all of this was inconvenient and maybe annoying, but if it was cleaning clothes then I figured I could live with it. Wrong again. I was use to basic food or playground stains coming out with a little pre-treatment or something. Not with this machine. I have to put something through at least twice and I'm still not sure that the stain will come out. I've also had items like gym clothes that come out still smelling like sweat or a mixture of detergent and sweat. Yeah, gross. It also cannot handle delicates. With my previous machine I could put in items that said hand wash and they would came out clean and in good shape. This machine leaves holes at the seam line in clothes that say to wash on gentle despite chosing the delicate cycle. I've also noticed that many of my kitchen towels and bath towels are starting to shred at the ends. Granted I've had some of these towels for years but I find it odd they ALL starting fraying after we got this machine. The final straw with this machine is that it does not rinse well. My kids are not overly sensitive to detergents, but I've noticed that they have been scratching or are otherwise irriated after we've had this machine. I've noticed a difference for myself too. The biggest tell-tell sign is with diapers. It is very important that diapers are rinsed well so that leftover detergent doesn't irritate baby's skin potentially leading to a rash. Even when using the second rinse feature, or the fabric softener option, diapers are NEVER rinsed well. I can smell the detergent when I pull them out. And yes, I am using HE detergent. I've tried powders and liquids and the results are the same. I can run a load of diapers without new detergent and suds will float to the top of the water. To get my diapers as clean as they should be I have to run at least 3 hot loads while manually scooping out the suds. Consequently, I have grown to loathe this machine. Now that we are expecting a third child I MUST have a machine that can handle cloth diapers. With three little ones, I will not have time to babysit this machine and scoop out suds. My wish list is still the same so the search continues. If you need a machine to do some heavy duty cleaning, keep looking. This machine can only handle ligth weight laundry and even then I'm not sure I would recommend it. Please try again later. From the United StatesPlease try again later. Bill Free 4.0 out of 5 stars But I am the type of person who likes to run a regular cycle, then before it rinses, change the cycle to gentle and throw in a few items that need to be gently washed. If you do this with this 4250 model, it will drain out all your soapy water (wasting it) and then begin refilling your machine for a totally new cycle- your gentle cycle. Another caveat, if you open the lid a few times too many during agitation, to add a few items say that you found laying around, the machine usually will drain all your water and end the cycle. What gives with that. How is this efficient. These sensors are set to end the cycle when there are too many interruptions. I prefer managing my machine myself, but if you are the type that likes to load it up and leave it, then go for it, bkz this machine does a great job, runs quietly, and has lots of options for cycles! Please try again later. Marcus 5.0 out of 5 stars With almost all new washing machines (top and front loaders), automatic water levels can cause problems getting clothes clean since the automatic settings use very little water that barely covers the clothes (and sometimes doesn't cover them). However, on this machine the water level can be manually selected the way old top loaders can be, so I don't understand how anyone can complain about water levels on this unit. I have found that by manually selecting the water level, and using HE detergent (as recommended by Owners Guide), clothes come out extremely clean. This is caused by the direct drive motor and is normal. I have a door on my laundry room so it doesn't bother me at all, and I think some people are exaggerating a bit. I am completely satisfied with this machine so far. But I have not owned it long enough to comment on reliability. My understanding is that upcoming government regulation may not allow this machine to be sold much longer due to the amount of water it uses if water level is adjusted manually, so if you like getting your clothes really clean and are not overly concerned about water usage, I would suggest you get this one fairly soon. Please try again later.I was extremely happy with my previous traditional Kenmore Elite which did a fabulous job of getting diapers and clothes clean. About 1 time in 5, it seems to skip the spin altogether. It's easy enough to turn it straight to the spin and hit start when that happens, but still. Others have mentioned issues with the auto-fill not providing enough water to get the clothes clean - I noticed this at first and now always use the manual water level selection and usually the 2nd rinse option. Not very water-saving at that point, but at least the clothes are clean. Also, it does make a slight repetitive squeaking noise when agitating that is apparently just a normal part of operation. Not a big deal for us, and the eventual banging of the unbalanced spin cycle is much louder anyway, hahaha. In retrospect, I miss the Kenmore stack we left behind when we relocated and rented out our old house. Didn't know it would be so difficult these days to find a washer that worked simply and well! Please try again later. Stephanie 1.0 out of 5 stars Needless to say we will not be going back to GE anytime soon. The machine was as moody as Real Housewife. We have had it for just over a year and it was giving us problems months after having it. It was a constant guessing game as to whether or not this product was going to start or not. The switches were touchy often times you would sit there for ten minutes moving switches, pressing buttons, nothing would happen and the voila. This machine was ridiculous. So happy to get rid of it. They aren't made like they were back in the day. Confident this one will work better. Please try again later. Dustoff 6 3.0 out of 5 stars Please try again later.Shame on you GE for even producing this machine and not standing behind your product. I called and called and called.you would think after the same repair man came twice, he would have to say something proactive. REALLY? Still, I proceeded to talk to GE and demand that they replace this machine (which is two months old) so that I no longer have to go to a laundry mat just to get some peace and quiet. Their answer.we will send someone out to check it out!!! waste of time. Should have purchased the LG (made in china)! Please try again later. P. Harding 3.0 out of 5 stars I got rid of a 17 year old washer that seldom had to have the clothes moved around but this one is a constant pain. Even when you shuffle clothes around there is no guarantee that it will spin at top speed so you wait around and then rebalance again or take out clothes. Sorry I got rid of old washer that was still working. Look around for something better.I now can say I like it and it spins the clothes so dry that I reduced my dryer setting and am actually saving on gas. I like that I can determine the water level, that it has an extra spin cycle, and many temp settings. Hopefully it will last. Please try again later. jessica 1.0 out of 5 stars I have had the tech. You can put clothes in it and the last piece will not ever get pulled down it just stays on top. The rinse cycle does not get the soap out because it has no spray so it just fills up with water and agitates a few times really slow and drains and then spins without a spray you can still see soap in the clothes. And speaking of draining it drains for 9 minutes (I timed it) and then spins for 10 minutes, I ran this for the tech and he said it is set by the electronics and sometimes they are set a little long and they cant be changed. I asked the tech if I could return the washer and he informed me that in no way will GE stand behind their product or take it back, they will pay for a defect but the whole thing is a defect. Please try again later. It was a pretty basic 4.1 cuft capacity high efficiency machine with a variety of settings for different amounts of soiling, water temperatures, and I could even select the water level (or so I thought). Since that time I always set the water level to the largest setting and it always filled about half way. Over the past seven years I’ve attempted to compensate for the low water level by pouring water in the drum, using less soap, and only running half a load in an attempt to get everything under or near the water line. I never felt that my clothes were getting clean, but had no other alternatives due to government regulations. Plus the high efficiency washing machine ran much longer than the older washers (an hour and ten minutes).I went on one of my frequent rants bashing my high efficiency washing machine and Department of Energy for instituting these regulations while sprinkling in a few colorful 4 letter words. I had visions of my ensuing mid life crisis, only mine did not include a fancy red sports car. My vision included several rows of expensive laundromat quality washing machines lined up in my basement as I was certain I could only purchase them at some minimum quantity. I also had visions of starting a washing machine company. How difficult could it be to strap a motor, controls, and a few actuators to a 50 gallon drum to do a load of laundry. Heck I could do a better load of laundry than my high efficiency washing machine using only a kiddy pool, garden hose, and a sturdy stick. I scoured the big box stores web sites and there were a few rays of hope, but nothing panned out. One machine was not listed as high efficiency, had some control over the water level, and it had great review. However, I found that it was truly a high efficiency machine after downloading the manual and finding that it clearly showed how to properly load the machine with the clothes above the water line. I quickly found that the big box stores only market settings and features that the have some resemblance of control, but don’t include information that would allow me to make a truly informed decision (i.e. water usage and duration of the wash). There are 9 other preset cycle settings on their high end electronic model and 5 on their base model (that fills the entire tub). There is No Lid Lock that prevents you from opening the lid at any time to stop the cycle and verify the claims of a full tub of water. There was some room in the tub to spare for clothes and the water level couldn’t get any higher. There was clearly some excess soap in it, but I’m not sure whether that was due to the prior 4 frustrating attempts to get it clean or was built up over time. The comforter was clean after the first attempt in the Speed Queen and the excessive soap was removed with a second rinse. Probably could have gone through a 3rd rinse (which is an option on the high end model), but I didn’t feel that the was necessary. I can’t believe the ridiculous rituals I performed while trying to do laundry with the high efficiency machine. The Speed Queen just works! The Total Wash Time Ranges Between 27:55 Minutes and 32:55 Minutes vs over an hour in my old high efficiency washer. The time savings alone makes the Speed Queen washer a sound investment. The wash cycle options range between 12:45 and 17:45 minutes depending on whether you use the quick wash (12:45), perm press (13:45), heavy duty (15:45), whites (17:45), or bulky (17:45) settings. The rinse takes another 10:10 minutes, and the final spin takes 5 minutes. You may also choose to add an additional soak (37:00), pre-wash (13:10), second rinse (10:10), and third rinse (20:20) to your wash cycle at your discretion. The Time Remaining Display eliminates guesswork by clearly showing when the laundry will be finished. All other components are identical between the two electronic models. Just a hot and cold water supply, a drain hose, and a plug that uses the standard 15 Amp wall outlet in your home. I installed it myself using Speed Queens instructions without incident or concern. As a result, there was virtually no motion of the machine and very little noise during the spin cycle even though I neglected to level the machine during the initial installation. Whoops!
