The first thing I sewed was a stitch sampler, and all the stitches are perfectly tensioned and even, right out of the box. I never had an auto-needle-threader before, and now I'm completely spoiled. I've used this machine almost every day for six weeks now. This machine will sew through 6 layers of denim, although you do have to slow it down over those thick seams. Also be sure to use a fresh sharp needle with every big heavy-duty project, which goes for any sewing machine though. Not sure why Singer left out that helpful tidbit. I wish the presser foot dial had numbers, but really, unless you're doing some sort of specialty sewing, it does not need to be adjusted anyway. I'm not crazy about the gray color, but it does give it sort of masculine look, like an industrial machine, and will probably keep it looking cleaner over time.
