Francisca 2.0 out of 5 stars The first one I read was: Getting Off the Menopausal Roller Coaster: Taking Control of the Emotional and Physical Ups and Downs of Menopause (which contains another type of information). There are many books on the subject so, as I didn't have much time to do in depth research, I decided to go for the cheapest first. But there is a lot wrong with this book, although there is useful information too. This book is quite outdated. The authors still seem to fear saturated fats and red meat, for example and are big fans of soy which, if not fermented, seems to be quite detrimental for the health (I need to read more on that subject!). They talk about breasfeeding as a contraceptive, but more often than not it doesn't work, look at me, I am here because my mother believed exactly that. What a surprise she got. Her only daughter! Their thoughts that women would get more educated and therefore would be living a life more in harmony with their natural design didn't happen. Nowadays women, much like men, or even more, run day and night trying to conciliate all their tasks. They also think that soy formula is a good thing. Two of my daughters who had lactose intolerance were brought up on soy formula, but recently I read that this is the equivalent of giving a small baby a few contraceptive pills a day. Not a great idea, is it. My daughters, now adults, seem to be ok but could something still go wrong. I don't know! Today I wouldn't have done it. As far as human milk being better than formula that is not sure either. In another world that would no doubt be true but nowadays mother milk is usually very polluted, so it is such a good idea, passing toxins to a newborn.http://asiapagesonline.com/paddyspalmspub/temp/dell-poweredge-4161ds-manual.xml Too bad they don't make a really good formula, that would maybe be the best choice in a world where most things are not ideal. As far as spring water bottled in glass. They are almost gone, at least where I live. It all comes in plastic bottles. Ideally governments would make sure our water is of the utmost quality but.The idea of not eating fat meat and going for carbohydrates can be debated. Read Trick and Treat: How Healthy Eating is Making Us Ill. Carbohydrates seem to be one of the reasons people are getting so obese. They talk a lot about eating seeds like sesame and flaxseeds but they fail to mention phytates. Are they a problem or are they not. They seem to leach minerals out of the body but some researchers say they are great against osteoporosis. Very confusing! There is something odd: on page 17 the authors say that one in seven couples is infertile so I was very surprised to find out on page 52 that one in four is infertile. Which is which? This doesn't really add to the books credibility. They advise eating fish quite a few times but I am sure that even back in 1998 the oceans were quite polluted and farmed fish was often full of toxins, antibiotics and so on. Drinking 600ml of water a day during pregnancy seems not enough. They keep telling us to drink at least 2l a day, why only 600ml during pregnancy. Red meat and full fat dairy inflammatory. They are now advising full fat dairy instead of the watery skimmed one so.Not everybody agrees with that. Again, read a book like Trick and Treat: How Healthy Eating is Making Us Ill, but there are more. Is walking briskly a weight bearing exercise. I am not at all sure about that. But there is good information as well, a lot on the environment and how it created havoc with our hormones, information about which vitamins and minerals to take (I still have to compare the amounts they advise against other books I have).http://gbb.global/blog/boss-gt-10b-manual They compare HRT with natural hormones, give advice to people battling infertility and point out that IVF is not always necessary. It is also interesting that they point out that what may seem like menopausal problems can sometimes be due to other problems like Candida, so worth testing the causes before starting treatment. But this book is not only about menopause, it is also about other problems related to hormones like PMS, endometriosis, fibrocystic breast disease, menstrual problems, ovarian cysts, pelvic inflammatory disease, cervical erosions and dysplasia, endometrial cancer, ovarian cancer, etc. This is a tiny book so if you have one of these diseases you will have to look for more detailed information. They also discuss Tamoxifen. Interesting to see that sometimes the drugs we fight for, thinking they will save our lives, could actually kill us. Bottom line. If you can buy it cheap it is worth reading, if not look for information elsewhere. By the way, if you read Dr. John Lee's book you will get most of the information given here because they cite him all through the book, which is quite annoying. If I felt like reading one of Dr. Lee's books I would have read it and not this one!It is her favourite book. The pages are nice and the way it's written is like your having tea with a friend. So worth the money. Beware the outside book cover did come off a few days after I got it which seems pretty normal with books that are glued like this. But honestly the information given outweighs this one little issue that I can fix with glue myself.I’ve read many books and blogs and this is far the best. Not only is it very thorough, but it’s done in a way that is easily understood. I recommend this to anyone who is struggling with hormone balance and fertility issues. The early warning signs and symptoms that come with the peri-menopause can catch many women by surprise in their mid-late 40s and they often don’t realise that there’s a hormonal connection. During this time you can experience quite a bit of hormonal havoc as the production of key sex hormones oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone becomes erratic, which can lead to a whole host of apparently unconnected symptoms. You might wonder why your skin has suddenly become so dry that you have to upgrade your moisturiser; or question why your periods have got more frequent and heavier instead of less frequent and lighter, as you might have expected; you might be affected by anxiety, loss of confidence or low mood; your hair or nails might become more brittle; perhaps weight gain becomes an issue or you might feel constantly fatigued. If you’re suddenly experiencing one of more of these symptoms, then you may well be peri-menopausal. But first, some news from me: I’ve decided to share my advice to a wider audience than my nutrition clinic and this blog, which is why I’ve just launched a new monthly podcast called The Happy Menopause. If you like it, please give it a star rating and tell your family and friends about it. Easier said than done, because this can be a hugely stressful time, as you juggle the needs of a growing family and a busy professional life while caring for elderly relatives. But this is possibly the single best thing you could do, because Mother Nature has a cunning plan to help us manage the menopause. As our ovaries stop producing oestrogen, our adrenal glands are programmed to produce it in small amounts to cover our needs. The problem is that the adrenals are also responsible for producing our stress hormones, and if there’s too much stress going on, then your oestrogen production is going to take a back seat. Low blood sugar will leave you feeling tired, irritable, shaky, headachey and dizzy and the cortisol will generate powerful cravings for sugary food or refined carbohydrate. Too much sugar in the blood will lead to the release of the hormone insulin to clear it all out which leaves blood sugar levels low. Your blood sugar is also likely to drop if you leave long gaps between meals. Good sources of protein include meat, fish, eggs, lentils, chick peas, beans, quinoa, nuts and seeds. Good sources of fibre are wholegrains (e.g. wholemeal bread, brown rice, wholegrain pasta), vegetables, pulses and fruit. It’s responsible for over 300 different jobs in the body, in particular calming the nervous system and regulating the body’s response to stress. It’s also essential for energy production. A lack of magnesium can leave you feeling tired, anxious and less able to cope with stress. The magnesium will absorb through the skin, relaxing the muscles and setting you up for a good night’s sleep. They also help to support the function of the adrenal glands. Low levels of vitamin B12 are very common if you’ve been exposed to chronic stress and this can impair memory, concentration and focus as well as leading to fatigue and depression. It’s also in some fortified foods like Marmite or certain breakfast cereals. Vegans may need to use supplements to ensure optimum levels. Peas, broccoli, peppers and mushrooms are all good sources of the different B vitamins Book in for a WellWellWell nutrition consultation for more targeted help and don’t forget to subscribe to The Happy Menopause podcast, so you don’t miss out on the next episode. A Guide to London Lunching. Even if you're living a healthy lifestyle with good nutrition and regular exercise, you're not reaping the full reward of your efforts if your hormones are imbalanced. Your hormones affect almost every aspect of your overall health, so you need optimal hormone balance for your body to function well. But it is a balancing act; it's easy for your hormones to become imbalanced. I can show you how to balance your hormones naturally and safely. The disturbances can cause a variety of different symptoms. Often the symptoms are confused with the signs of aging. This can have a negative effect on your life. You may feel fatigued, irritable or have trouble sleeping. You may experience hot flashes or night sweats, or your libido or even digestion may suffer. As we age, our hormone levels will fluctuate and decline. But you can restore hormone balance through natural bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. And once your hormones are in sync again, the negative symptoms usually disappear. BHRT uses both natural and synthesized hormones which are identical to the molecules of hormones that the human body produces. It is customizable to your body’s needs and requirements, unlike “one size fits all’ conventional therapy. This preventive medical approach inhibits stress induced signs of menopause and andropause. Hormonal balance affects other efforts to improve your health, so when your hormones are optimally balanced, you'll see much greater benefits to eating right and exercising. Hormones are the chemical messengers of your body, so when they're properly balanced and functioning, all of you body systems work more smoothly. With accurate testing and medical supervision you can discover your current hormone levels. By using a combination of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, nutrition plans and exercise guidance, LifeTime Health Center can help you naturally balance your hormones and feel better than you have in years. The individualized programs for each woman suffering from early menopause symptoms, menopause, perimenopause and severe PMS will benefit. For men, andropause happens gradually and when diagnosed, the symptoms can be successfully treated using bioidentical HRT. The difference between bioidentical hormones and synthetic hormones is that, although both are created in labs, synthetic hormones are not identical to the hormones naturally created in your body. Bioidentical hormones match your body's hormones molecule by molecule. The soft tissue glands responsible for producing hormones are being forced to produce even longer.
