Initially support requested that I pay for the shipping back even though the unit was still under warranty. After reading the warranty myself I discovered that it said they would pay for shipping as long as it was under 180 days. Only after I pointed that out to them did they agree to pay for the shipping. A couple of weeks later the unit was returned, but they sent me a lower cost model. Again I had to ship back that unit. The unit I got was having problems with shutting down spontaneously and more recently with not being able to find a GPS signal. At this point, I asked them for a refund, but they refused and want me to ship the unit back again. While I find customer service reps to be very friendly, I suspect they have a severe quality assurance issue with their products. As far as features, I did like the traffic routing, but the unit is not that easy to use. For example, with the Garmin you can easily see the details of the route, but with the TomTom you have to press several buttons to do that. Also it is not easy to add a via point or to turn off some of the warnings. Personally, I would stay away from TomTom unless you are prepared to spend hours on the phone with customer service. Keep in mind each time you return the product you will have to wait around to sign for the device. First when I turned on the device and connected it to the computer it came up in some unknown language. I finally managed to set it to English. Then had to update the software. That takes about 1 hour. Then tried connecting to Live Services. No it did not work. Every time I've gotten the device back I've had to call customer support to get the device working. OK so I called Customer Support yet again. A couple minutes later, again the same phrase, over and over again. I subjected myself to that torment for 30 minutes, only to get disconnected. My one and only gripe is that the unit DOES NOT Automatically power on when you connect it to the cradle or the mount. My gripe with that device was always the MSN's gas prices were never accurate and the signal rarely was available. The Garmin, however would do all the things you'd think to make it ergonomic (like auto power on and one button to clear out of menus). The Tomtom is clearly more sophisticated in the navigation and connection properties but the every day ergonomics (like auto power on and single button chores) are seriously missing. I wish I could make my own GPS and take the simplicity of the Garmin interface mixed with the sophistication of the Tomtom routing and services. If Tomtom would ever make a simpler interface I think they would control the market based on their routing, customization (and now the internet connection). When it works, it works OK. It restarts itself very often. It doesn't get a satellite fix often for minutes. It often doesn't work with blue tooth. If I had it all to do over again I would certainly choose another device and another brand. When my subscription runs out (which was very expensive) I will replace this device.
