sony kdl 40s4100 manualI have found plenty of copies of the mk4 for the 3 series, but the button layout and some menus are different. Typically it's the only brochure not present in the handbook. It appears similar to that in the X3 and early 1 series but can't find a pdf for these either. Regards, Dave I have found plenty of copies of the mk4 for the 3 series, but the button layout and some menus are different. Regards, Dave. I'm not sure I have a guide (so would be interested if one turns up.) but it's not difficult to use - what's your question(s), Dave? Stevo Don't think I ever needed to read it. I can operate the audio controls without any issue, and I've managed to figure out how to get to the nav screen, but am still trying to figure out how to use the navigation itself. Anyone have a reference. Speaking of the nav, I'm pretty sure this car has the factory nav software from 2006, and I read something about there being a downloadable firmware and map update for the 2006 nav. I haven't seen a link to the disks though.Got the 2010 map CD over bittorrent. Got the 2010 map CD over bittorrent. I think I found the v32 firmware update on Bittorrent (BMW Navigation Distribution Disk V32 looks right), but no maps. Is there an easy way to tell which version of the nav firmware you are running. I don't see any kind of version on the screen when it first starts up.They stopped development and moved on. Firmware version should be in the upper right corner of the Setup screen. Once unscrewed, the changer will slide forward off the mounting Brackets and it has a connector on the black wire about 10 inches from the unit that you can unplug and another wire that unplugs. If you can’t get to the screws that hold the changer to the mounting bracket, it is best to unbolt the 3 bolts on the changers metal bracket from the body of the trunk and bring out the changer and the bracket all at once. That should expose additional allen head screws to remove upper portion.http://fresh-j.info/images/uploadedimages/dbx-dav-600g-manual.xml Use a small screwdriver and open the small doors that are on the left and right side of the stereo. Inside is an allen head screw. Turn the screw counter clockwise until it releases the stereo then just pull it out. These screws do not come out, just loosen it. Then there is a block on the back with wires going to the stereo. The block has a slide piece ontop that you can pry up with a regular flat screwdriver (there is also a picture of a screwdriver on the plastic) This tells you to pry it up, once it goes up about 1 inch the block of wires will pull off the stereo. There are couple other small cables that pry off easily. If you are upgrading from an MKII Navigation computer, reach in the access door to the left of the CD Changer and gently pull up on the antenna cable connector attached to the GPS module as shown in the photo below. Remove this cable, route it thru the back of the Navigation computer frame and connect to the back of your model navigation computer. You can disconnect the power connector to the separate GPS module as it will no longer be needed. The MK3, MK4 computers has a GPS module built in. Intallation of the new navigation is just reverse. The MKIII system simplified the layout a bit further (see Diagram 3 at the end of this document), moving the GPS receiver (Trimble) inside the nav computer housing; now GPS antenna is plugged directly into the MKIII computer itself. Reasoned that nav is nice, but should also more likely to have all the options. Now I mostly wish it didn't have the Nav. The Nav is 7 year old, low res, with one push dial and two buttons. It's really poor. More distracting than useful. And there are not that many options. The one option I would really like, but seems really rare, is the full leather package. The eject box and pairing button installation are the same, although the eject box provides a cradle for charging and boosting the antenna of your cellphone. For those of you who do not want to mess with installing the Eject box, you could easily find a suitable mounting location for the 3 series pairing button. The pairing button can be mounted in any location you choose, or hidden in the rear compartment. You can verify by finding the Prewired for BMW Cellular phone in the trunk area. Prewiring consists of wiring for all telephone equipment, plus coding for phone and voice recognition. If your BMW is prewired for phone, and you install a new generation Bluetooth module, like we sell, it is unlikely that you will need to have your car coded. Then remove the trunk liner covers on the front and LEFT side of the trunk with the TOP FULLY UP. Start by disconnecting the cloth cover that runs across the entire plastic tray. Cloth cover is located where my thumb is in the picture and the base of the cover just pulls straight out. Then remove the the clips on both sides that holds in the trunk cover. Press up on the clips shown in the image, and unclip the plastic tray to remove. It is easiest to remove the plastic tray if it is up halfway. You should have the bracket installed from the factory as shown below. Remove the 3 10 mm nuts to remove the Bracket. If you do not have the bracket you can order the following part number 84 10 6 922 719 from your local dealer Once youc onnect the Bluetooth antenna wire and the 54 pin connector on the ULF module, and mount the bracket back in its original location. If you had BMW Assist, you will need to remove the Assist module and replace with the Bluetooth ULF module. Double sided tape works really well mounting this way. Remove the 18 pin connector from it's mounting location in order to make it easier to connect to the new Bluetooth eject box. To remove the 18 pin connector, just turn clockwise about 30 degrees to release the mounting tab Push the 18 pin connector on the Bluetooth eject box thru the hole. Your cover will be black in color and not blue as shown below Then connect the eject box FAKRA SMB antenna wire to the car's FAKRA SMB antenna If you did not have a BMW phone system before and your trim lid is not configured to take the eject box, you can easily replace the Fold Down Door that is setup to hold the Bluetooth eject box as shown below. I recommend mounting this button in the little coin box just forward of the storage compartment or on any other small replaceable trim piece. Click here for the E46 Pairing button cutout template To remove the lights lever down the lights from the rear. If you have BMW Assist now, you will already have the Microphone. We may earn money from the links on this page. It's not pretty, nor is it ugly. BMW did a complete redo of its simple Z3 roadster in 2003. Along with the sheetmetal changes came a new multilink rear suspension from the 3-series that made the sports car a much nimbler handler in the corners than the skittish Z3 it replaced. We decided a long-term test would be a good way to see if the Z4, unlike the retro Z3, was a true premium sports car, and if we might grow fonder of its unconventionally designed exterior. It didn't take anyone here more than five minutes behind the wheel of this Z4 to begin squawking about the car's confounded gearbox. The SMG is basically a manual with an electrohydraulically actuated clutch and gearshifts. There is also an automatic mode in which the transmission shifts gears on its own like a traditional automatic. The SMG is supposed to combine the sportiness of a manual gearbox with the convenience of an automatic. Nothing personal, but in our case we decided it failed miserably at both tasks. Activating the sport mode, which is supposed to shorten shift times, didn't help much. The clutch was slow to engage, and this led to lots of lurching and head wagging when shifting up through the gears. Although you could smooth the action with very carefully timed throttle modulation during shifts, many drivers whined that the SMG made it appear as if they were back in high school and just learning to drive a manual transmission. Several times drivers had to restart the Z4 to reset the SMG's computer so it could put itself in gear. Just figuring out what gear the transmission was in seemed like work. That was in large part because the digital display between the tach and speedometer gauges was difficult to see and discern. With the top down on a sunny day, the display was nearly invisible. The transmission wasn't the only thing that drew a lot of flak from the crew around here. The onboard computer's ergonomics were confoundedly complicated, frustrating and angering drivers and passengers alike. Any attempt to change function involved multiple menus. BMW could take a lesson from Jaguar in this case. Once we got beyond the electronics, we found many things to like about the Z4. It was a comfortable long-distance cruiser with lots of legroom for tall drivers and passengers. And it got a lot of pedestrian notice. There are people who think it's a beauty. Trunk space was also generous for a roadster, more than enough storage room for two people on a four- or five-day road trip. One driver managed to get a sewing machine, several gallons of paint, brushes, and rollers, and other odds and ends in the trunk while running errands. The run-flat tires and sport suspension made the Z4 stiff-riding at times, especially over Michigan's potholed roads, but the Z4's well-balanced handling was highly praised. We felt the engine was so hampered by the balky SMG that it became a case of simply being unable to get to the source of all that available horsepower. (And while we're at it, a little more snarl from the exhaust would have been welcome.) An announcement will light up on the instrument panel ordering an oil service or an inspection. The oil light came on for the first time at 14,880 miles. We took it to a BMW dealer and had the oil and its filter changed, as well as the cabin-air micro filter. The dealer also ordered a new SMG control module. There was a factory recall on it because of consumer complaints about balky downshifts and missed shifts into neutral rather than first gear. BMW absorbs the cost of all the regular maintenance--including brake pad and rotor changes--for the first 48 months or 50,000 miles. Still, there was no cash outlay for maintenance, which is nice. We took the car back to the dealer about 1000 miles later to get the back-ordered SMG module installed. Downshifts were better, but the upshifts were still balky. The right rear tire had developed a slow leak. Since the tires had not worn out, we did not include this cost in our final tally. It happened again at 22,111 miles and 39,297. The Z4 went in for only one other service during its 40,000-mile stay with us. And we weren't charged for any of this. When our 40,000-mile long-term date concluded, we took the Z4 back to the track, where it sprinted from 0 to 60 mph in a scant 5.6 seconds and covered the quarter-mile in 14.3 seconds at 98 mph. Surprisingly, those numbers are nearly identical to those of a six-speed manual-transmission car we tested in January 2003. But to get the long-term car's numbers, we had to use the SMG's launch-control feature, which involves depressing the Dynamic Stability Control button for three seconds, flooring the gas pedal, pulling the paddle or gearshift lever into first gear, and letting the computer select the optimal clutch-engagement point for maximum acceleration. Most owners wouldn't drive this way on a normal basis, and neither do we. There was no consensus on Hogback Road about the Z4's looks. A few simply loathed its styling; most found it to be fresh and new without being trendy. The interior had an icy elegance to it that reminded many of the much more expensive Z8. Our Z4 was a good roadster that was badly hurt by the incorrigible SMG and onboard computer system. We actually drove another Z4 identical to our long-termer, right down to the color, but without the complex nav system and with the base six-speed manual transmission. It was a joy to drive.Spare me! I looked and felt like a bucking bronco. Who would buy SMG? BEN MOERMAN I believe we would have been better off without the SMG option, but it's an interesting thing to get used to. SMG really should be called MFI: manual for idiots. Lows: Extremely slow throttle response in reverse, SMG has all the pain and none of the joy of a real manual. STEVE SPENCE One day this schmengela transmission is friendly, the next it's your enemy. There is sometimes no way to know how it's going to step off--with a lurch, or like a 12-year-old is driving for the first time. Lunge, lurch, gag, choke, hack. LAURIE ANN DEVEREAUX The car continues to get many, many looks. Girls expect some young hottie to get out. Who knows what men expect. Top up and down is as easy as can be, and between raindrops I've been putting it down. TOM COSGROVE I hate this transmission. It seems to have a mind of its own. I just tried to pull out of the carwash, and it would not go into drive--even after restarting. JARED GALL This has to be the best top-down stereo available. Crystal clear sound at 80 mph. I'm not sure about the styling overall, but this may be the J.Lo of cars. Does anything else look this good from behind? On dry pavement we noticed a slight improvement in ride quality. The Blizzaks' sidewalls weren't as stiff as the summer run-flats', and that cut down on some of the road noise and vibration. Snowbelt owners will need to spring for a set of snow tires if they want to keep driving their Z4s through the winter months.
