Eschewing the esoteric “art poses” and wooden mannequins commonly found in art books, he portrays everyday, real-life gestures on human-looking foundation figures: standing, sitting, kneeling, and reclining, with arms folded, ankles crossed, hands on hips, and more, all shown from various angles. Hart also explores deeper concepts such as perspective, illusion of depth, casting shadows, and foreshortening, and provides step-by-step tutorials that take artists through complete, naturally posed figure drawings from start to finish. The right way to learn from any drawing book I believe is to try every example on your own on a sketchbook. In my learning, this book has been essential. I feel I've actually learned something.Alas the book did not live up to the reviews - this is not for me at this time. It is no step by step, is weak on instruction and frankly could not hold my attention. As the title suggests - you have to figure it out - yes you have to figure a lot out on your own - for eg tthe drawing of the face and head - how did you get to that point. Karen Campbell does a better job of explaining how to draw the face in the simplest terms. This was a waste of money for me.The second is a guide to human proportions. And the third, this book, focuses on how to draw natural-looking poses. Most of Christopher Hart's books are superb---he has a knack for teaching essential sketching techniques without getting overly technical or advanced. This book is no exception. The book itself is paperback, with large enough print to read easily while you're trying to sketch. Like the others in this series, it has integrated flaps at the front and back covers, so you can save your place, as you might do with a dust jacket. It's well illustrated throughout, with brief sections of text to explain the principles being demonstrated. The core premise of this book explores how the human body changes as it shifts position, so you can learn to draw poses that look natural, rather than forced or stiff. For example, when you take on a certain pose, curves appear in some parts of the body, while others flatten out. Some limbs may appear foreshortened, while others lengthen. Certain muscles might become more prominent, while others become less visible. There are lots of tips and tricks.http://cvec.org/wp-content/uploads/mailinglist/cyber-shot-wx50-manual.xml So as not to overwhelm you, the book divides the body into sections, focusing first on the head and neck, then the arms and shoulders, then the legs. It even explains how to add depth to a pose, so it doesn't look two-dimensional. His female models don't all have huge boobs and tiny waists. Many appear fleshed out, with realistic-looking bodies. The only thing I didn't really like is the fact that some of the sketches were recognizable from his previous books, which on the one hand, lends continuity. But on the other hand, it feels like he couldn't be bothered to create something new for this book. It's a very minor complaint, though. In short, if you're struggling with figure sketches, this book will help you learn how to make small changes that have a big impact on your drawings. Even if you're already a good artist, you might learn a few things. As I said, the author is quite good at explaining subtle techniques for making figure sketches look more realistic. For other books by the same artist, check out my favorite, This book is awesome. The trick is to take your time and review what you have learned the day before. No hurry, just patience and determination. It takes time to draw, there are no short cuts. I love my new hobby. I got a sketch book ( Strathmore Series 400 Sketch Pads 9 in. x 12 in. - pad of 100) and always have it with me. So when I have time I sit down and relax and draw. I have no natural drawing skills, so I am starting from scratch. I am pleased with the outcome and the relaxation this gives me. Remember not to skip pages or rush through the book. But I like to draw and I would like to be better at drawing. This Christopher Hart - Figure It Out. Drawing Essential Poses will help me get better. The book understands that you need basic information about drawing a figure and how to go about doing just that. It is broken down into the following sections; 1. Introduction, 2. Head and Body Basics, 3. Posture, 4. The Must-Know Info, 5.http://gbb.global/blog/boss-br-micro-manual Opposing Forces, 6. Arm and Shoulder Poses (very difficult drawing for me), 7. Leg Poses, 8. Depth, 9. Seated Poses, 10. Exercises. I enjoyed this book so much that I will likely look to order some additional Christopher Hart drawing books.None of them were dynamic or interesting enough to make them worth copying. All of the interesting ones are on the cover.Artist jumps ahead quite a bit and would love to see at least one other race and body type represented. Great quality print and layout, would just rather watch a video on YouTube.I wanted to start Sketching and she gave me this for a gift. It’s easy to fallow and perfect for any one wanting to start from ground zero or for some needing to sharping there skills. He was very happy and he said that is very useful.I plan to use it as reference when drawing. Not only does he draw them with incredible style and flair, he also has a friendly, accessible teaching style that makes his how-to books super-sellers. In this unique figure-drawing course, Chris avoids the usual anatomy lessons that intimidate aspiring artists and gets right down to the basics young illustrators need to get started. Starting with heads and facial expressions, he moves on to full figures, male and female, ideal and average, some in fashion poses and others in dynamic action. On every page, his practical advice and clear examples will help readers achieve terrific results — and have fun every step of the way. Lippy 5.0 out of 5 stars My first thought is that people need to read the title; Figure It Out!: A Beginner's Guide to Drawing People. This is exactly what this book is, a beginner's book. While it does expect you to have some basic level of drawing skill, most of the drawings build the body from basic geometric shapes. This is the starting block for how most good beginner art books teach you to learn to draw anything. So it does pass that basic qualification. Next up and possibly what I like most about this book, is that it shows you shapes, and basic line forms that make up the parts of the body. The problem with that approach is that until you know what you're looking for, you're a little in the dark. That is where this book excels. It gives you the basics of the human body construction and the contour lines that generally tend to be used to achieve those results. However, this is also where I get a little frustrated with some of the other reviews. All bodies are put together the same. Reviewers who are upset with this book for not having people of color, cultures or other ethnic races need to understand that those are all people who can be drawn with this book, but you will need to start with the information the writer gives you and then adapt it to fit each unique person. The author could easily write a whole book that would be titled, Figure It Out!: An Advanced Guide to Drawing People, which would cover a ton of differences that occur within all races, cultures, etc. However, those things would weigh down this book with too many choices and confuse the beginner. I'm sure you might wonder why I said this was a teacher's review. I'm an art teacher in an inner city school district where the kids can be easily frustrated at new things that they feel they have to do perfectly first time out. My students can't quite grasp the differences between professional, student learner and just plain quitting before you even begin. However, I've shown them multiple examples from this book concerning eyes, having them compare their own eyes to the generalized types, and they seemed to grasp the differences better. When they did attempt to draw their own eyes, they seemed to be a bit more confident in their attempts and didn't complain that they didn't know what they were doing. In short, they had a better grasp of what their lines should look like (differences included) because they knew to compare and contrast the line examples with the lines of their own eyes. So, should you buy this book. If you are a beginner or a more experienced person who would like to find some tips and tricks to draw bodies better or faster, yes. If you are a greatly experienced person with the human body, I'd say no. There are better, more in depth books out there, but then that's what you would be looking for anyway, not a beginner book. So I say this book for value and price is worth is and advertised and titled correctly. I hope this helps you with your body drawing book buying! This book is awesome. Remember not to skip pages or rush through the book.Let's face it we're very complicated creatures and YouTube tutorials aren't the best for slow placed learning. This has very simple but yet effective instructions. I have artistic skills but I had no clue on how to draw people. This book allowed me to study at my own pace and I successfully sketched my very own character!!!! I am super excited that I was able to do this!!!! I gained so much confidence as an artist. I highly recommend this book!!I have a cartoon book and a drawing happy things book of his which inspire me, but when I don't have it in front of me I don't know where to start. Everything turns out wonky and I feel like all is futile to draw without looking at instruction. SO At first this book looked daunting to me, but I leisurely took one page at a time and focused on each figure. It is written in a way that builds the foundation of simple figure drawing and looks at different shapes and angles. After a few pages I feel like I am learning the basic structure I need to improve, without being intimidated.I bought it used and its in perfect condition. Full of helpful anatomy and posing tips as well as some basica shading and contouring. I've needed one of these to help with my anatomy and dynamic posing and I am very satisfied with my purchase. She has been using it since Christmas and already her drawing skills have really improved. The book makes it easy to understand how to get the proper angles to draw the human body.Very straight forward and easy to follow. I do wish that they'd combine this one with his other proportion book. I really needed both for doing different ages and different gender proportions. There are no clear lessons in the book, just lots of things to copy, despite the author stating in the forward that he believes it’s virtually impossible to copy a drawing simply by looking at it. The chapter (2 pages) on the shape of the head tells us nothing about how to draw features yet, there it is, on the second page, a drawing of the head complete with all the features. This is a very lazy book which achieves its objective of simplifying figure drawing by leaving out many of the key elements. It’s very well named because the reader is left to “figure it out”. I’ll be returning thisThe book is roughly A4 size and contains 140 pages. Christopher Hart has a series of books on human proportions and templates for drawing the human figure, male and female, clothed and nude in all sorts of poses. I think they’re great and really useful. He looks at all sorts of poses, both static and dynamic, and shows easy ways to sketch out the human figure. There’s a certain amount of overlap with each book and I think if I bought any more I’d feel the same, but I like it and I’ll use it. Like his other book, he takes the reader through a logical process, his drawings are great and the narrative easy to follow with loads of examples.I have only done a few of the tutorials but the author, Chris Hart, makes it so simple and easy. He doesn't spend ages teaching you the anatomy of the body, or writes paragraphs for each step. He simply gives you the steps, a summary of what you are drawing, annotations on each step and a hint box per tutorial. Even the introduction section isn't paragraphed heavily. Short, sweet summaries with pictures to demostrate. Having spent money on several figure drawing books, this is by far the best. It even tops the Figure Drawing for Dummies. His other book, Figure It Out. Human Proportions is in similar style. He begins with the head showing basic and detailed proportions. Indicating the differences between males and females. Showing the difference between a realistic set of proportions and an idealised view. He then goes on to show you about poses and posture. How to draw them simply before going more detailed and accurate. Overall an excellent book for one who does not know how to draw and a decent one for those who wish to perfect their own drawings. It has helped me greatly with mine. I hope you enjoy the book too. Get started with a FREE account. Seek what they sought. ” ? Matsuo Basho A figure in.High resolution, all pages.
