To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness. Most window units have no problem cooling a room because the hot air side of those systems is already well ventilated and hanging out the window. Portable units, in order to be portable have to have the condenser inside the unit, thus producing heat in close proximity to the cool air it's also producing, then it has to send all that heat out through a relatively small hose (when compared to the expose a window ac unit gets). Bottom line here, is don't expect this thing to work miracles in cooling your entire 2000 square foot home, it's just not designed for that. This is best suited for small rooms (12x12 or so). Very happy with it, and if it craps out on me any time soon (I don't expect that it ever will) I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2015 It does the job. Not very efficient but will cool a large bedroom. Please try again later. From the United StatesHaving this unit during that time kept the room it was in to 65-70F. Works great, although you have to occasionally drain the water, no biggie. Please try again later. Kindle Customer 1.http://www.adbagroup.com/E/crest-ca12-manual.xml0 out of 5 stars This air conditioner will won't dispense cool air during extremely hot weather, which is the whole point of an air conditioner. If you live in areas where the temperature is above 85 degrees and up this is not the air conditioner for you. If I could give this product a ZERO I would, but I can't so I will have to settle for 1 star. Please try again later. Hula Monkey 3.0 out of 5 stars It is a fabulous dehumidifier - but handling the water without a nearby drain is a problem - still emptying buckets adn working on a solution...perhaps a fish tank pump from the bucket out the window:-). Original review: We needed an air conditioner for a small East Village apartment in New York City for one of our kids going to school there. The apartment windows are on the south side. The alternative to this kind of portable unit was to have (and pay) for the installation of a window bracket and still buy a unit - so we gave it a try. It does a great job given the windows allow the blast of hot sunlight in the afternoon (curtains are bound to help). There is NO issue with water drainage when it is just being used as an air conditioner. The unit auto-evaporates as it works. According the the manual you only need to worry about drainage when you have it in dehumidifier mode. It is wonderful not to have a window blocked with an air conditioner box - or to worry about taking it out for winter (or covering well enough to keep out the cold). Things that would improve this unit: include small screws with nuts instead of sheet metal screws to attach the exhaust conduit to the plastic window 'sleeve' - and toss in the box some standard foam window weather stripping to pad underneath the window-sleeve.Please try again later. genryu 1.0 out of 5 stars The only time it cool down is after 7-9pm when the sun is no longer up. Which is stupid. I believe this was a waste of money. The dehumidifier mode seem a lot okay. Please try again later. Hidef 1.http://eco-region31.ru/bose-wave-radio-owners-manual0 out of 5 stars Haier customer service is worthless and lied. There is no way this produces 8000 BTU's Stay away. Plan to file consumer complaint against Haier in NY State. (NYC headquarters) Junk. Please try again later. kanimc 2.0 out of 5 stars Upon setup and as I began using the product I ran into several issues. The first was that the directions on setup and installation were unclear, even for such a seemingly simple process. Secondly, while the air conditioner is said to cool a room up to 250-300 sq feet, it was struggling to cover my 180. And while it does seem to do a better job at dehumidifying than cooling, the amount of drainage from the collected water is unmanageable. The product was said to be mostly self-evaporating with a reservoir tank that will hold the excess. I was aware that the unit may need occasional drainage. I however am unable to run the unit for more than 3-4 hours before the tank is full and shuts itself off completely. Since I am using this in my bedroom there is no convenient way to drain the tank without either completely detaching it from its window fittings and rolling it into my bathroom, or allowing it to drain into pots or pans and carrying them to the kitchen sink. The other night, while I was sleeping, I attempted to just allow the unit to drain as it cooled into a spare aluminum casserole pan but the amount of water was so great that halfway through the night it had already begun overflowing. I'm going to try to find some rubber hose to fit to the drainage spout to put out my window, but without elevating the incredibly heavy unit I cant see how it will ever truly drain efficiently. I could forgive this extra inconvenience if the unit was effectively cooling my small room, but it is all around lackluster. Thirdly I think calling this air conditioner portable is a little misleading.http://clinicafootcenter.com/images/canon-universal-send-manual.pdf In order for me to move the unit into another room I need to unplug the unit from the wall, disconnect the exhaust hose, unscrew the window fitting to change the size and remove it from my window frame- then transport the unit to the other room and refit the exhaust hose and window fittings. It doesn't sound like too much, but the whole process takes about 15-20 minutes.I had also tried researching some troubleshooting methods, but Haier doesn't even list this product on their website. Lastly, because I purchased the air conditioner sponsored by amazon but sold by this company called Beach Audio I cannot return the product to amazon. Beach Audio has a 30 day return policy that excludes certain items including air conditioners regardless if they are defective or not. It was my mistake for not researching this before my purchase, but I was told that their return policy was 30 days and I didn't see the need to investigate it further. Please try again later. Mark in Oregon 4.0 out of 5 stars The description and diagrams for setting up the window panel, for example, were worse than useless. As an air conditioner, refitting the required window panel and hose would get onerous quickly. The room is on the west side of my house and previously grew hot in the late day sun. The unit works for my purpose, the price was reasonable, and I am happy with my purchase. Please try again later. ER 1.0 out of 5 stars We tried to adjust the angle of the unit which decreased the airflow outside, but the unit still wont produce cool air even when left running for some time. It's better to leave the window open. Definitely not worth the money. Please try again later. James M. 4.0 out of 5 stars I lasted about 3 days in near 90 degree South Florida humidity before I broke down and went to Brandsmart. It was a bit of a pain to install the hose. I tried the original flimsy plastic parts that came with it for a while. The unit helped me survive the time it took for the central unit parts to arrive and get installed. In fact, my parents also purchased the same exact portable unit and they liked it as well. After the central unit was up and running, I continued to use the portable to keep my room in the 70 degree range. It worked quite well with the original window panel. After a year I replaced it with a piece of plywood. I cut a piece to the width of my window, and about twice the height of the original plastic piece. I cut a hole on one side and instead of using the hose flange, I simply threaded the hose into the piece of wood and it sealed better than the flange ever could. I then duct taped the wood board onto the window and put a bar on top of the window for a bit of security. Also, I replaced the plastic washable filter with a normal central unit filter that I cut to size to fit the portable. The unit was going strong for about another 6 months. Then, I noticed it was leaking water from the bottom. I took the whole unit apart, drained it in my tub, and then ran it with no panels. I observed that the water was dripping off the front where the filter and the condenser touch. I went back to the original plastic filter and it worked fine. Also, I left the back panel off, which allowed me to wrap the area where the hose connects to the unit with duct tape. The connection isn't a perfect circle, it has what looks like a circle with its sides chopped off. The whole exhaust hose system is poorly designed and could have been much more efficient with a simpler design. It has been nearly three years since I purchased this unit as a temporary cooling solution. It has become a permanent part of my room and has been very low maintenance. My room is 10x10 feet and has one window. It has proven to be very efficient and durable. It is noisy, about as loud as dishwasher. I did get used to the noise and didn't mind it at all when it was the only thing keeping me from having to sleep in my own sweat in 90 degree heat and swamp (literally) humidity. Over time, I became so accustomed to the noise, that sometimes I find it hard to fall asleep without the unit on. One of the reasons for this could be the running water noise it makes in the exhaust system. Whatever it is doing in there, it kind of sounds like gentle ocean waves along with the wind noise of the fan. The portable might even be a bit quieter since it isn't rattling the window frame. I wanted to try some padding such as dyno mat on the inside of the panels to see if the noise levels decrease. But, since I am used to the almost soothing sound now, I don't see the need. This one was probably the cheapest portable that was brand new when I got it and most likely still is. I believe that the price is due to the terribly designed exhaust hose system. If you are handy and have a saws-all, a board of plywood, some duct tape and patience, this unit is a bargain. It will pay for itself if it lasts as long for you as it did for me.Please try again later. H.Y. 3.0 out of 5 stars No portable will EVER match a window AC of the same BTU, so if you have the option to install a window unit, you should do so. A window unit will be cooler and use less power. Here is why: A single hose unit means the hose will exhaust hot air thru the hose. But it needs an intake source of air - the intake will be from the room itself - so you are taking the air that you just cooled and exhausting it out the window. Next, the exhaust hose itself as noted by other reviewers, gets very hot. As hot as a radiator in the winter. And the AC unit itself gets hot - the portables have the entire unit inside the room so it is heating up the room. Window units have the working parts outside of the room so they don't heat up the room anywhere as much. So now you are heating the room as well as dumping cold air out the exhaust. This is why a portable can never be as efficient as a window unit. I think you would need at least twice the BTUs of a window unit to get the same cooling power. I think the manufacturer's of the portables give you a theoretical BTU rating - but with the issues of exhausting cooled air and heat generated by the unit and from the exhaust - you will never get the theoretical BTUs. This is true for all single hose portables. Dual hose portables will be more efficient (good luck finding an inexpensive one), but still not as efficient as window units as they still have the issue of the exhaust hose emitting heat into the room. Putting insulation around the exhaust hose will help. But please do not use pink fiberglass wall insulation - it's not very healthy for you if it is not completely sealed off - ie inside a wall. Now to the Haier itself: The model I purchased - CPRB08XCJ - can be controlled without the remote - all the buttons that are on the remote are also on the unit. The screws are not too short to attach the adapter to the panel - you must put the screws in from the front - the side facing inside the room. The instructions are pretty simple - so maybe the other reviewers got an older version of the instructions or I have a different model. Depending on the humidity, you will need to empty the unit. I had my unit on for 3 hours, and there was a lot of water when I drained it. Had I not drained it, I think the unit would have shut off once the tank was full; it is supposed to have an auto shut off. I drained it before it shut by itself. I also tried connecting a drain hose - but that was a minor disaster - the fitting is just a nipple that you push a hose into (does not come with a hose) -it came loose and water got all over. It would be nice if Haier included a hose that threads onto the nipple. The room I used it in is 8x12. The air coming out of the unit felt cool, and it cooled the room a bit but it did not cool the room well; on a scale of 1 to 10, I give it 4 on cooling, probably due to the issues mentioned above. To be fair, I used the unit on the hottest nights (so far) of this year - it was above 90 degrees at night. I have not used the unit during the day yet - haven't been home. I expect the unit will perform better this week, as the night temps will be in the 80s. The unit does not have directional fins - it only blows straight out. I did not think this would be an issue - but it is: the exhaust hose is very stiff and it is hard to turn the unit to the direction you want it. Also, be aware that the cord is about 6 feet long, and it is not recommended to use an extension cord. So make sure you can reach an outlet, while trying to keep the exhaust tube as shortened as possible. The closer you can get the unit to the window, the shorter the hose will be and thus the less heat will be emitted into the room. As others have mentioned - it is not easily moved from room to room - you must wrangle with hose and the weight. Overall, I do not think the cooling capacity of other single hose units will be much better. It would be a better unit if it had a separate intake hose, an included screw in drain hose, and directional fins. So an okay unit if you have no option to use a window AC, with some minor annoyances. Please try again later. Please use the box above to search for any other information. It wont turn on. What should. Consider this example (admittedly, a bit heavy-handed, but it drives the point home): You’re writing about the EPA’s programs to clean up impure water supplies. Impure seems too simple and boring a word, so you bring up your thesaurus, which offers you everything from incontinent to meretricious. “How about meretricious water?” you think to yourself. “That will impress the professor.” The problem is that you don’t know exactly what meretricious means, so you don’t realize that meretricious is absurdly inappropriate in this context and makes you look foolish and immature. Use only those words that come to you naturally. Don’t try to write beyond your vocabulary. Don’t try to impress with big words. Use a thesaurus only for those annoying tip-of-the-tongue problems (you know the word and will recognize it instantly when you see it, but at the moment you just can’t think of it). Quotation book abuse. This is similar to thesaurus abuse. Let’s say you are writing a paper on Alexander Hamilton’s banking policies, and you want to get off to a snappy start that will make you seem effortlessly learned. How about a quotation on money. You don’t know who Samuel Butler is, and you’ve certainly never heard of Hudibras, let alone read it. Your professor is not fooled. You sound like an insecure after-dinner speaker. Forget Bartlett’s, unless you're confirming the wording of a quotation that came to you spontaneously and relates to your paper. Encyclopedia abuse. General encyclopedias like Britannica are useful for checking facts (“Wait a sec, am I right about which countries sent troops to crush the Boxer Rebellion in China. Better check.”). But if you are footnoting encyclopedias in your papers, you are not doing college-level research. Keep it by your side as you write, but do not abuse it by starting papers with a definition. You may be most tempted to start this way when you are writing on a complex, controversial, or elusive subject. (“According to Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, liberalism is defined as.”). Actually, the dictionary does you little good in such cases and makes you sound like a conscientious but dull high-school student. Save in the rare case that competing dictionary definitions are the subject at hand, keep dictionary quotations out of your paper. It is rarely necessary to quote secondary sources at length, unless your essay focuses on a critical analysis of the author’s argument. (See also: Writing a Book Review ) Your professor wants to see your ability to analyze and to understand the secondary sources. Do not quote unless the quotation clarifies or enriches your analysis. When in doubt, do not quote; instead, integrate the author’s argument into your own (though be sure to acknowledge ideas from your sources, even when you are paraphrasing). If you use a lot of quotations from secondary sources, you are probably writing a poor paper. An analysis of a primary source, such as a political tract or philosophical essay, might require lengthy quotations, often in block format. In such cases, you might need to briefly repeat key points or passages as a means to introduce the author’s ideas, but your analysis and interpretation of the text’s meaning should remain the most important aim. (See also: Using primary sources and Use scholarly secondary sources.) In fact, your professor will usually be your only reader, but if you write directly to your professor, you may become cryptic or sloppy (oh well, she’ll know what I’m talking about). Explaining your ideas to someone who doesn't know what you mean forces you to be clear and complete. Now, finding the right amount of detail can, admittedly, be tricky (how much do I put in about the Edict of Nantes, the Embargo Act, or President Wilson’s background?). When in doubt, err on the side of putting in extra details.Resist the temptation to condemn or to get self-righteous.
