Robert Denton 5.0 out of 5 stars The packaging is very unassuming. Inside the box the Polaris SPD-100 comes with a carrying case, a lanyard, and a manual. The battery door is located on the back. The meter uses a standard AA battery. When you turn on the meter the first thing the it does is a battery check. It shows this information for about a second. This is nice because if you are about to start a complex and lengthy shoot, you can just change out the battery rather than having to stop the process (model, assistant, etc.) and restart after changing a battery. Also, if the meter does run out of batteries, the meter will save your most recent settings as it does when you turn it off and back on. Another nice thing about this meter is that it automatically turns itself off after 5 minutes of non-use. Some people might not like this, however, it is a nice power saving feature for when you get busy and forget to turn it off. The Polaris SPD-100 allows you to measure both incident or flash metering and reflective light metering. Reflective light metering is similar to the light metering included in your Digital SLR camera. Incident light metering is the ability of the light meter to measure a light incident such as the firing of the strobe flashes in a studio setup. To use the reflective metering you first slide the incident sphere to the right until it clicks, exposing the light sensor.https://labroclub.ru/blog/bose-ta-2-amplifier-manual Then you press and hold the ISO button while using the adjustment buttons on the side to adjust the ISO to the preferred setting. Then you press the mode button until the ambient light metering mode displays. You then point the meter in the direction of what you want to meter and press the measurement button. You are then given the reading. You can also use this meter as an incident light meter for strobes in a studio setting. First you need to slide the incident sphere over the light sensor on the left. Then you adjust the ISO setting. After this you can chose to a corded or cordless flash mode. The corded flash mode uses a PC cord from the meter to the flash. Then when you push the trigger button, the flash fires and the meter takes a reading. If you use the cordless mode then the meter waits for you to fire the flash. When doing this the meter waits for your to remotely trigger the flash. In the video I demonstrate the cordless flash metering with my Had I not had this meter, I would have not known this. Also, don't try to just take a bunch of test shots and review them on your camera's lcd screen. Chances are your LCD screen is way off on color and brightness calibration. Many camera's LCD screens are brighter than the picture actually is so you can see the photo when shooting in the sunlight. If you rely on the lcd screen to check your exposure, you could easily be underexposing every shot you take. One down side of the meter is that when in Incident (Flash) Meter mode you can only adjust the flash sync speed or shutter speed and the ISO setting on this meter. There are ten different flash sync speed settings. If the reading is in between a full stop the meter will display this on the scale on the bottom the screen. This is helpful for getting the perfect exposure. You can also use this meter to set up multi-flash situations.http://erka-techserv.com/images/canon-powershot-a1000is-user-manual.pdf This means that you can take a single flash reading, then select what F-stop you want to use and it will show how many times you need to fire the flash for that setting. This does not actually take multiple flash readings. It just does the math on-board to tell you how many times to trigger the flash for a desired effect. Overall, this is a great meter for the price. Most photographers will find this more than enough for their needs. If you do grow out of this you can either keep it as a back up or sell it. Look around online; these types of items are not cheap. Even used, they fetch a pretty penny. So, overall, I would recommend this product. I think you will be very happy with it. Cheers! Before purchasing a meter I spoke to a few professional photographers. Some used them, some thought the TTL readings were sufficient but when setting up lighting away from a studio setting did have do engage in some trial and error. Having used the meter several times I have been amazed at the improvement in exposure it yields. It does a far better job than even spot metering. I have been using the meter as a teaching tool for my wife, who is new to photography. She has found it easier to understand the relationship between ISO, shutter speed and aperture, particularly when you change one parameter on the meter and see how it affects the other. The meter performs exactly as described. I have used it in flash mode with equally satisfying results. It prevented some washout using a ring flash with macro photography as well. I am very pleased with the meter and would recommend it.Kept getting dark pictures, called amazon and got another. I assumed the first time was a fluke so have not opened it or used in for quite awhile. Just finally used it and its off as well!! By 2 stops!!!!! I had my suspicions confirmed by comparing my friends correctly exposed shot, and comparing the results of her Sekonic meter. Yep, 2 whole stops off. There is no polaris customer service so no company to even repair it. Im going to contact amazon and see if they will let me exchange it, very frustrated!! Will update after I talk to amazon. With digital you see the results right away. I've always relied on my eye and expertise to make a good exposure, and felt a meter was a waste of money. I bought this one to give a meter a try, and it helps out a lot. Changed my mind about meters. It does have some drawbacks, like it doesn't have all the shutter speeds on my A65, but it's close enough to get me within an F stop. If you have an questions about using meters, buy it. For the price it will answer all the questions you would have about using a meter with your photography.Keep in mind that a light meter works as a guide to give you an aperture and shutter setting that will generally give you an acceptable photograph. This product seems to be made fairly well, and should last if it is not mishandled. If your shooting adventures take you into the world of combined light sources, I would recommend this product. It is a simple tool that is well built and with the flat diffuser and spot meter attachment, can do everything that any of the other, more expensive units can do. I would go with sekonic meters if you have pocket wizards, but if you don't plan on getting them then get this beauty. Love the bag it comes with and how well the instructions worked out for me. You should upgrade or use an alternative browser. Somewhere along the line, I misplaced the instruction manual. This light meter had a setting where I could set the light meter up, run a test flash, and it would tell me the proper aperture setting. I have not used the unit in some time and my memory is not good enough to recall. I have been trying a number of different settings, but cannot seem to get the correct sequence down. I have search web for a Polaris Company website, but have been unable to locate one. Any ideas outthere?Hoping that I was wrong in the prior statement, here are the instructions that you may need to use, instead of the Manual, if you measure flash output of a flash that fires not in any automated mode (iTTL, E-TTL, etc). Read ON: (I believe the explanations below are much better than in the original Manual.) I have Polaris Flash Meter, and Spot View spot meter optional attachment, as well as both intruction manuals. The Flash meter is so simple, that I wonder whay you need a Manual for it. You select measuring method, and there are only 2 choices: Incident or Reflected. You do this selection by sliding the white dome over the sensor, or out of sensor. You will need to set ISO that you intend to set also on your camera (DSRL), or the film camera you use (the film speed in ISO). The flash meter has dedicated ISO button, so it is as easy to use as it can be. Press and Hold that ISO button, then press Down or Up buttons on the side. Once you see the ISO value that you need displayed on the LCD - release your hold of the ISO button - you are done setting ISO. Since you are interesting in the Flash measuring, I will not write about ambient light metering. Flash metering has Cordless, Corded, Multiple Flash, and Program Level mode. By pressing mode buttoin you will select one of the modes you need, and recognize the mode by the type of the Mode icon on the LCD screen. Cordless Mode uses built-in optical sensor, and the Icon is a down pointing arrow. Corded flash mode requires connection to PC socket on the Solaris Flash meter, and disables the built-in optical sensor. Multiple (accumulated) flash mode requires you to enter number of flash bursts that you want to measure total value. Multiple flash mode has dedicated button, so it is as easy to use as it can be. Press that button and hold it, then use Up or Down button on the side, untill you reach required number of flases. Releasing the hold on the Multiple button sets the number of flashes. Program Lvel Feature allows you to preset your flash meter for purpose of subsequent measurement comnensations. You invoke that mode by pressing that button and holding it pressed down. Then you press Up and Down buttons to adjust amount of over or under exposure. The PL mode will stay set even if you release hold on the PL button below the battery. Even if you turn off the meter, and turn On, the PL will flash indicating that the meter continues to make adjustment by the previously preprogrammed value. The flash meter is reliable and gives repeatable measurements. It will not be so, if you measure flash output from a digital camera operating flash in any of the automated mode.I hope you find the instructions useful and forgive the spellings.Like new, but no manual. Does anyone have a manual that they would be able to copy for me, or alternatively, explain what the plastic circle that snaps over the dome does. But there's this extra plastic part that covers up the sides of the dome, and it knocks down the exposure by about a half-stop. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Although dLoc and dRot would serve in most maze games, many other instances demand force and torque. However, most of these instances occur in more complicated games with a multitude of interactions with dynamic objects. Later in this tutorial we will add dynamic objects to our maze, and the reasons for using force will become clear.Be sure to switch back to orthographic view when you are editing ( NUM5 ) We'll be adding a camera later. If i used torque to turn and force to move forward and pressed forward then turned it started spinning out of control. My solution was to use rotation instead of torque.)How do I make the maze block the cone?If you do not see the property window press the NKEY and look on the right of your screen. The simplest way to do this is with a 'skydome' object the entire maze is within, and although there are a number of more elegant ways to accomplish the goal, we will use the skydome method for its simplicity to replicate. As we discussed earlier, faces are one-sided in the game engine, so you should not be able to see the cube. When I moved the cube back to layer 1, it worked fine. Am I missing something?)Make sure you test the game with both layers one and two selected. Also double check the logic for the 'skycube')I fixed this by replacing the cube with a grid, scaled and placed under the maze. The grid had the touch logic mentioned above.)If it isn't working make sure that actor is selected under physics tab.)Right now all I see, also when testing, is the skybox. Also, when I put the box underneath the maze, it works fine, but then none of the objects have shading, while when not showing layer 2 everything looks shaded. Can anybody give a solution. This is in 2.48a)It will rise with time!It rises with time! To make it evident to the player that the floor is rising, change the color of it (for example blue for water) and make it visible again. If you run out of time, you will touch the floor and restart. If you need more time, simply put a lower vertical linear velocity. In this case you might be better off with the logic camera, but it really is a matter of personal preference.Or you can just put the camera in the cone because one of the sides always are invisible (look in texture mode) and parent it to the cone. What's wrong?)You can now pick a color for the selected object. Click on the buttons highlighted in the screenshot. A color picker appears. Pick a color you like! You can fix this by selecting the camera and, in its edit buttons, changing its clipping range. We'll add some mist to our game so the player can't see too far ahead of him, thus making the game too easy.Go to the Material button, and to the World sub-buttons, then copy the settings in the screenshot. When you test this out, make sure you are in texture mode to see the mist. What's going on?)I found that a mist distance of 10 was barely visible, yet a distance of 1 had a much better effect. Is this normal?) If you chose not to include one such cube, create an empty at the start of the level (so you can easily find it again later). Give the cube or empty the following logical operators:Feel free to elaborate on the gameplay mechanics and models so they look better.I'm not sure of what I'm looking for while in playmode. As such, this section will be written less specifically, and the shortcuts for all basic commands will not be covered here. From this point on, this tutorial is of an intermediate level. If you cannot follow this part of the tutorial, you can learn the basic functions used below in an earlier tutorial. In this case, they will constitute a 'brick' wall that can be broken through by your character.
