Em continuidade as providencias, foi adquirida a bomba do cidadao frances, que, junto com outra bomba manual mais antiga, tornaram-se os unicos equipamentos para o combate a incendios da epoca. No ano seguinte, em 1863, ocorreu novo incendio, desta vez na Rua do Comercio, em uma loja de ferragens, decorrente da explosao de uma barrica de polvora. O fato se repetiu em 1870, quando novamente um barril de polvora explodiu no centro da Cidade de Sao Paulo. Em 1874 o Dr. Joaquim Jose do Amaral, chefe de policia, pediu ao presidente da Provincia que fossem destinados recursos e que fosse autorizada a criacao de um servico regular de bombeiros, com pessoal habilitado e com a aquisicao de equipamentos apropriados, tendo sido criada uma turma de bombeiros que ficaria agregada a Companhia de Urbanos, reunindo um total de 10 homens egressos do Corpo de Bombeiros da Corte. Contudo, com a substituicao do chefe de policia, seu sucessor nao deu continuidade ao trabalho e logo essa funcao foi abandonada e os bombeiros foram designados para tomar conta das ruas. E foi assim, em meio a paliativos, que chegou o fatidico 15 de fevereiro de 1880, trazendo o incendio que destruiu a biblioteca da Faculdade de Direito e o arquivo do Convento de Sao Francisco, no tradicional largo da capital paulista. No dia seguinte, em um indignado discurso, o deputado Ferreira Braga destacou o fato de uma cidade importante como Sao Paulo, “tao rica quanto populosa”, nao possuir um Corpo de Bombeiros perfeitamente organizado, e propos a criacao de uma Secao de Bombeiros, composta de 20 homens, vinculada a Companhia dos Urbanos. A lei foi publicada em 10 de marco de 1880, data que determina a criacao Oficial do atual Corpo de Bombeiros da Policia Militar do Estado de Sao Paulo.
