I have used it in batting cages, in public parks, on the diamond, and even on youth campouts. I have used it with stress balls, with tennis balls, with dimpled balls, and with real baseballs. I have used it as a pitching machine, as a fly ball machine, and even to play dodge ball with soft stress balls (sounds odd, but the boys LOVE this). It has held up to use and abuse, including baseballs that are hit on a line right back up the middle and whack the Zooka. This machine is convenient, portable, dependable, strong, and easy to use. It provides a timing mechanism so that the hitter can time the pitch. This is needed so that the batter learns how and when to load, similar to loading on a live pitcher. About three years ago I purchased the smaller tripod, which I prefer as my players got older. With the smaller tripod, I can tilt the Zooka slightly upwards, which gives more velocity and still be in the hitters strike zone. They had just started playing at the kids pitch level (as opposed to coach pitch) and were having trouble adjusting to the new regimen. It throws ptiches are that plenty fast enough to challenge any batter up to an through middle school. My machine will shoot the ball at speeds up to 72 MPH consistently. With the right swing mechanics and repetition, my son has gone from being a so-so hitter to one of the best in the league. He has also improved his power dramatically and can easily hit a home run in his league (fences are at 160 feet). He is currently 9 years old and is average size. We also use the machine to shoot pop ups.At first, my son coulnd't catch a full power pop up to save his life, but with lots of practice, he can consistently catch them today. By the way, they go higher than any kid could ever hit one. I've only seen pros hit pop ups like these. He was the best hitter on our team, hitting off his machine on Sundays with his family and neighborhood kids. His parents started letting us use the machine for our team practices. What a great tool. Our batting practices started having great game results. We had to get one of these for our off-season training. We bought this up-graded version because it has more velosity and should be helpful for quite a few more years. We bought it for improving hitting, but we are now using it for fielding as well. It's great to place the ball consistently for high pop-flies or line drives and have the kids learning how to judge and move to them. It's a great confidence builder. The yellow dimple balls are a must for practicing location pitches. Aim the ball for the outside, low corner and that's the pitch you get every time. Use regular baseballs for realistic game-type hitting. There are few batting cages in our area and they're hard to book, expensive, and not always working correctly. And our league doesn't have batting cages. We would spend a lot of time just getting ready to hit balls, not anymore. It can't deliver a fastball over 65mph, but with real baseballs it comes close to simulating a knuckle ball. It's sturdy and durable. My son got his while he was in Little League - a city all-star, by the way, chiefly for his defensive play. He used it for three seasons, in the third season mostly for firing pop-ups and high line drives to be tracked down. He kept it in clean condition. Now that he's graduating from high school, he decided to sell it on e-Bay; he got an immediate response and sold it for a bit over half what we paid for it in 2002. Not a bad re-sale value. There's no such thing as equality in sports. Playing opportunities favor some kids over others. Boys whose fathers were athletes have the advantage in every way, both coaching and heredity.
