Interestingly, it all looks like a software issue - my PMD670 is able to format (FAT32) and work with cards larger than 2Gb, but only while they were formatted in it, in the beginning of session. Once it's turned off and on again, it complains and doesn't work again. I contacted Marantz tech support (or rather outsourced umbrella support company) about it, asking for firmware or any other help, and it was no use.
