Why cant a heavily modded bike pull a stock 4th gear. Sure you might get it to pull a little harder when switching from 3rd to 4th but it will lose top speed for sure. The only reason I see for the T5 fourth gear is on a tight track scenario. Sounds a bit overkill to me but I've no interest in arguing that. Regarding the short 4th. The gap between 3rd and fourth is normally quite large.Especially with a revvy pipe. The short fourth closes that gap. Hell, it was Vespas idea. Imagine getting on the highway and taking 3rd to say 65mph, shifting to fourth and falling off your power band coz a headwind or hill comes along. Now you are slowing down.The shorter fourth keeps you in your power band better. I like those MB reed blocks. What jets does the 35 come with off the shelf? The TMX carbs have a power jet that injects extra gas at full throttle making jetting quite different. Nice carbs, but a little much for a 210 in my opinion. If your motor is honestly ported enough to run a 35 carb, you will likely need that short fourth. A motor that free-flowing will be all power band with very little torque making it hard to pull a standard 4th. When you open flow through your motor and run a very large carb you shift the power band higher in the RPM, say 6-9k rpm. If you rev all the way out in 3rd gear and shift into 4th with stock gearing, it might drop you down to 4-5k rpm, but you don't make much power at 4-5k making it hard to reach your 6k power band again. With a short 4th it might drop you back down to 6k rpm, right where your power band starts. Those numbers aren't exact, but it gives you the idea. I ran a 28mm mikuni on my P-221 and I really liked the power curve. It was still capable of 85mph and 3rd gear power wheelies. Got reasonable gas mileage too. If you run a fuel pump, you will likely need to run a return loop. The smallest mikuni fuel pump pumps 13 gallons per hour which will stress out your carb.
