The final section covers the effects of and treatments for hearing impairment across the lifespan using process-driven, patient- and family-centered philosophies. A focus on auditory rehabilitation across the lifespan aids student understanding of the treatment of hearing impairment during each stage of life, including separate chapters for infants and toddlers, school-aged children, young to middle-aged adults, and elderly adults. A process-driven approach that integrates core concepts, knowledge, and skills within the context of the hearing health continuum facilitates the conceptualization of the service-delivery continuum of screening, diagnosis, and treatment. A separate chapter on evidence-based practice in auditory rehabilitation, complete with tools, teaches readers how to question, observe, enumerate, and analyze specific interventions. Expansive coverage of assistive hearing technology such as hearing aids and cochlear implants keep students up to date on modern advancements in the field. A wealth of pedagological features including learning objectives, highlighted terminology, casebook reflections, chapter summaries, learning activities, and review exercises organize the material, specify key knowledge and skills, and engage the reader.
