July 28th 2017 Update: Carpet killer I actually got a response from Dyson but they never responded to my question about turning off the rotating brushes when using the hose and tools. The Dysons have all been very reliable and easy to clean internally. Like all vacuum cleaners, blockages can occur in the powerhead ducts, and the piping and tubes which lead to the dust canister. The DC01 and 07 had very good pick up of dirt and pet hair. We wore them out over a period of years. We remain very impressed by these early Dysons. We traded up to a Dyson DC14 a couple of years or so ago and were immediately disappointed.. There is something about the DC14 brush bar which renders it, in our experience virtually useless. We have very flat carpet, there is little pile depth and perhaps the brush bar is designed for thick high pile carpet. Changing fittings is a real PAIN. Useless on hard floors. Trying to use the so called telescopic hose is like pulling on an industrial bungy cord. It has a tendancy to tip over.
